Making movies making songs and foightin' round the world!

EDIT:

There is hope in QWISO, my padawans. Feast your eyes on the translucent refractive beauty that is 'Lemon Mirage':

2oz whole cured bud (no shake), 5.04g lovely lemon shatter.

The patterns in the shatter is the refraction of all the chunks of shatter through each piece obscuring it.

I've done flower runs that yielded ~20% and after winterizing lost up to %50 of that. Butane being non-polar takes the waxes along for the ride, IPA being polar doesn't. I'm guessing this has something to do with the yield. Now I'm curious what the highest yield possible is with QWISO and how it compares in smoothness/taste to an absolute (winterized bho).

Dude, everyone i know who has tasted who has had bho either here or in the states have said qwiso compares qwiso the best bho. It actually can be used to significant advantage for a number of reasons, the strong smell precludes you from not purging properly, it tastes awful if you haven't purged enough! Butane is tasteless/smell-less

I'm a big noob when it comes to concentrates but I'm slowly learning thanks to u guys. That being said do certain vac purge techniques produce certain types of concentrates? If so what's the preferred technique as far as how long to hold the vacuum, and how many times u release the vacuum. I want to start making bho I'm aware of the dangers and I believe I can perform the extraction safely I just need pointers I see a million different ways. I plan on having a 2 gallon chamber and the pump is 3cfm 2 stages. So I see ppl use heat/no heat, flip it don't flip it, and so on any advice would help. Keep in mind I'm no chemist so dumb it down for a brother haha thanks guys

Just got my first Ceramic Domeless Nail yesterday, first impression is good, flavor is good (close to but not as good as quartz IMO).

  • How can I minimize the risk of breaking during the heat up process?
  • Do I need to do anything to season it?
  • For smaller dabs, can I just torch one side of the nail? It is an excessively large heating area for my smallish dabs... going through a lot of butane.
I think my favorite is still the Domeless Quartz Castle... perfect size, short heat up time, cleaned super easy.

Dabs are vapor too!

Being that ceramic has a reputation for breaking quickly, I heat mine evenly. I think heating one side is riskier. I'd say if you want to heat less, get a smaller nail :) No need to season, same as quartz.

Thanks!
I would have gotten another quartz, but I needed immediate gratification so I went to the LHS and their options were quite slim. I figured for the all in price of $21.60 it was worth the experiment... but I will likely order another quartz castle soon.

Im not sure of cost, but worth looking into... I am not in a MJ state. It looks like this one:

I'm not an expert but I have a strong opinion
It seems like all the stores in my area tax anything related to concentrates heavily. Also in a non-legal state sadly.

That looks pretty nice. Nothing against you, but posts like this puzzle me....

At retail pricing, let's say those 2oz would cost me $400 for very good starting material, and yield 5 grams of concentrate. I can buy very high quality wax for $60/gram, so just buying the 5grams of wax would be less than $300.

Now I get that's it's cool to produce wax at home, get it cleany-clean and all that. But if I just want to maximize potency per cost, how can I beat just buying the wax?

Again, not judging anyone's process. I just can't get the math to work for me. If I double the potential yield to 10grams for the 2 oz starting material, it still looks like I spend $400 flower to yeild $500 in oil. Better numbers, but I still am missing vac purge and de-waxing in my homegrown process. Is my math off?

That's what I'm thinkin', plus mess, risk etc. Now if I could find a grown up that also had consistently good quality, I'd be

5 grams at $60 each is $300 not less than $300. plus, 5g from 2oz is a small return. one should be getting around 5-6 per OZ.

so for $400 (you can get top shelf for $200 an OZ?) you could be getting 10-12g of oil. this would cost $600 or more if you bought the pre-extracted oil.

running your own oil will save you money in most cases. in my case (non legal) i can get a gram of oil for less than it costs to extract it myself. but i still do my own runs also.

Fuzzy math, but yeah I can get top shelf anything bog 200 zip when on sale. I assume some discount buying oil above 3 grams at a time. But yes, if we assume 6g/oz yield (isn't that almost 25%?) the numbers get favorable quickly for home-produced wax.

Here it's either DIY or none when it comes to Concentrates. I can get hash but it's not the same. Also the starting material is closer to 400 for each oz not for 2! Lately my yields have been 20-25%. About 5.6g per oz sometimes more. I ran 4g of Triple Threat (3 different strains mixed) and got
1g of amazing shatter, that's 25% yield!

yeah... maybe 6 is a bit high, but 5g per oz is on par. of course that depends on the strain.

i usually run 1/4s and get about 1-1.3g out. but that would cost me $100-120 if buying the 1/4 by itself.

i would LOVE to have access to top shelfers at $200 a pop! i pay between $300-350 per zip.
