Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I've tried to clean my Ascent vaporizer the glass path, I can't seem to get the gunk at the sides of the glass path eventho I soaked it with isopropyl alcohol and used the pipe brush to get to it, but because the pipe brush is straight, I can't seem to get the sides of the gunk. Can someone guide me on ways to remove it please.

Traditionally ISO is not used alone. Long ago blazers discovered bong gunge (sorry for the technical term....) is very tough, unlike what we face. They use salt as well.

First, it has to be high purity ISO or the salt will just dissolve in the water part. 90% or better seems fine. Table salt usually does the job on vaping residue (at least for me), for really tough issues I go to rock salt (bigger crystals).

Fill the stem maybe 1/4 or 1/3 full of ISO with about 1/4 of that being salt as a starting point. Don't fill it up, stuff has to move inside. Cover the top and bottom with fingers/thumbs and shake away. Don't be shy.

Let the salt scrub where you can't.

Rinse and check it out. Remember to rinse well, there's salt dissolved in the Alcohol (hopefully very little), you don't want deposits as it dries.

Good luck.

LOL, anyone see the comments on massdrop about the ascent? I guess massdrop just decided to have an unofficial sale of them because davinci claims they haven't and aren't sending them any units and wont cover the 2 year warranty on units bought.

No, missed it, thanks for the pointer.

I guess that could be a problem then?

At least to some........

Received my replacement ascent today so it took 4 weeks. The box was damaged it has a sticker with a new serial number (hand written)just stuck over old number. Does not look neat or professional! And after asking me to mark down value so they didn't get a customs charge they couldn't do the same for me! This is my fourth replacement. Not happy and am going to see if I can pay to send it back for a refund! I have already spent more returning it than what it costs.

I second what @OF said about the serial failures that look very odd from a statistical point of view. There really must be something in the way you guys use the device, as it's hard to believe you just have bad luck.

As I repeated it many times, the wires breaking or unsoldering has been reportedly fixed by DaVinci only around february/march 2014, so we're going to see a lot of failure reports from earlier devices owners. If you want to be on the safe side, open the bowl as little as required to load it, and in all cases never more than 90°.

Also be careful with the charger port/jack, it's a common failure point with most electronics.

Now @Glass004's buttons problem seems to be of a different nature... It has been reported less frequently so far.

@nigel : any follow up on the revised silicone buddy rim? Did DaVinci comment on that?

If you don't have all the data, your analysis is meaningless, statistically speaking. And you give no accounting of all the bias, in that failures are more frequently heard from than successes in a forum. And if you have reason to doubt the validity of the multi failure reports of individuals, present evidence please as your statements tend to cast doubt on those people.
I think that they can build the ascents so cheaply that they can easily absorb the cost of replacing them. They really were not to concerned with getting back the broken Ascent from me.
There are two recent posts of failures out of the box, mine being one of them. I don't think that you can pin those failures on the consumer or the rough shipping.
IMO Until you can show evidence otherwise, the blame for failures and lack of reliability is in the build of the product and its engineering, and wrong should not be implied on the consumer.
Two out of three of my failures were related to button malfunction associated with high heat, one during the break burn recommended by DaVinci, and another while unit was running in my pocket. The third model crashed because of a failure of the power plug receptacle.
I wonder about your objectivity as before.
After reading your post you just confirmed why I use what I use.
Thank you!

I have a boring story about why I have both adapters (14mm straight tube and 18mm bent) and ed's wooden stems with no Davinci Ascent. I bought it on the last massdrop. It fumed after thorough cleanings and many burnoffs. I actually think i got the bottom silicon ring to stop fuming but the top seal still did. Anyway massdrop ended up taking so long that they sent me an indica. I said maybe it would be better when i first sent my ascent back to them but didin't think it would actually happen. They denied it but sure enough almost 2 weeks later they changed their mind and sent me tracking info for an indica. What should i do with my stuff? Seems like a waste to not give it to one person. Anyway I did like how the ascent felt and vaped even with the noxious fumes lol.

NICE! Alexis from Davinci sent me a replacement unit with 5 days from me sending my faulty one! Great customer service ever since the OG Davinci!

And shepherds we shall be,for Accuracy & Discovery
A couple of quick notes:

I ordered a few hundred of our favorite glass flowers. (I break them but also I give them to friends that get new Ascents.) This latest batch seems to have two stems, one in each direction. Same seller as before. Weird. So this means it's harder to use as a "thumbtack" on the top level.

I've been using a Pinnacle WT of late. Of course, being flavor-focused, it acts against my inclinations. So, I'll do the early temps without to really enjoy the flavor, and then add it on once I reach the mid-range. Thought I wouldn't like it as too small and too ineffective, but I rather enjoy it now that I've gotten used to using it.

Also, a friend just got a brand new unit. I took a look at his and my newest (at least 8 months old?), and there is a big difference in the buddy rim silicone. I noticed at first, as the straw was in there so tight, I had trouble extending it. I'll note it is also in a different shape with the sides much higher than before. I did NOT take it apart (didn't belong to me), but it felt like the seal was MUCH better.

And, I'll note that for the previous massdrop, I had mentioned that I didn't think they were a legit channel, and they had a "take names first, ask for permission later" approach. (In all fairness, I'm sure some of the drops are sponsored and legit.) Seems like from the comments, that it might indeed be a grey channel deal, that comes WITHOUT a DaVinci warrantee. MassDrop seems to be offering their own warrantee, but that comes from the comment section. I don't see any information in the product description.

I have two questions:

1) Can anyone recommend a bubbler or water tool for the ascent? I have seen vapefiend recommend the F-bomb, but I wanted to know if anyone had much experience with pinnacle pro's water tool or other more portable water tools. I very well could have missed this in a post somewhere so I will try and work my way backwards, as I have been away from the boards for a week or 2.

2) I am looking to also try attaching some silicon tubing to form a whip and see how that plays out. Does anyone know what size silicon tubing attaches well with the glass stems?

I am eagerly awaiting tomorrow to head to the post office, my ascent should be waiting for me after being sent in to get serviced. I feel that the customer service I received from Davinci thus far has been very prompt and professional. After I get the unit home and fire it up I'll let you guys know for sure.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks !

1) No. They wanted to make it so you can. But Lawyers got involved and they decided not to let users replace batteries

2) No, there are very few pictures of the inside of the Ascent. If you open your Ascent, please take pictures!!!

Well, I finally gave into buying the Ascent after my original davinci started to circle the drain. I decided to get the stealth version through vapornation for the free gifts, fast shipping, and you know, a valid warranty.

In my opinion it's pretty ridiculous that Massdrop's recent drop doesn't have a valid warranty. I was the one who posted in the comments after calling their customer service.

Also, I've been following this thread for a while, but haven't gotten an account til now. Along the way I didn't save any of the tips on getting the most out of the ascent that you all have shared, so could someone either recommend me to a certain page in the thread, or share a few?

I've already re-read the last 15 pages, so I at least tried!

I'm mainly going to use the ascent for herbs and not oils.

Welcome Icetea, You can mix wax in with your herb, use wax and wrap it in cotton too. You don't use the oil can.

I think as long as you realize either fill up the bowl with herb or use the glass flowers as a spacer to conduct the heat, you're good to go. Slow draws will get you where you want to be.

Keep reading maybe back another 10 pages. Theres so much repetition, with the same questions, skip over those. Look at the beginning where it talks about the Ascents features.
Have fun and fuckcombustion

If you try to change the battery (batteries?), you'll lose your warranty.

Per the User Manual, page 20, under What is not covered? item 4: "This warranty is not enforceable and is void if the Product has been dismantled, opened, modified or repaired by anyone other than Organicix LLC or an Organicix LLC authorized service center."

Hope that helps! :)

... I didn't save any of the tips ...
Maybe use your browser's search feature (in Firefox, it's under >Edit, >Find) to locate relevant words without taking the time to read everything. Hope that helps. :)

I'm sorry @nigel but I also got the V-shaped recent buddy rim and indeed the seal between it and the drawing straw is tight, but this is *precisely* the problem! By extending the straw it will pop the buddy rim ever so slightly up that it widens the gap between the bottom of the silicone and the plastic tube inside the device, exposing the batteries+electronics compartment directly to the vapor-path.

Really unless they mold a new one with a downwards protruding cylinder extension, plugging directly inside the plastic tube (aka inner air tunnel) the problem will not be fixed. Maybe I should try to draw a quick sketch so it's clearer for you all? Meanwhile I kept using the quick fix using the straw-cap ring and it works pretty well.

Edit: here we go it's ugly but you'll get the idea!

Normal operation all sealed:

After some use the buddy rim is warped:

Then the proposed revised buddy rim silicone mold fix:

And finally here's the quick fix in action showing the straw-cap o-ring in place, sandwiched.

I hope this doesn't sound as cryptic as @Egzoset's posts! :p

I finally received my carbon fiber ascent today and I am honestly really disappointed.

After getting rush processing and 1-day shipping so my ascent would arrive before the 4th of July, the damn display is dead. I immediately started charging the device and noticed it was starting to get extremely hot. When I tried to power on the device, half of the screen was extremely pixelated to the point that you couldn't make out anything, and the other half was completely black. I was going to take a picture after I turned it off and back on, but the display never turned back on.

I think that the display is just completely gone, but the device still works somewhat, as the heating chamber seems to be getting hot enough to vaporize.

Thankfully, I ordered from vapornation, so now I have to send the unit back and they'll send me out another. But still, I wanted the device for the Fourth of July, but that's not going to happen now.

I'm going to proceed with charging it for the next 4-5 hours, but I do not expect anything to change.

So beyond pissed off

Maybe you can use as is(if it heats up) even if display doesn't work to get you through the fourth, then send it back. Good idea just charge up as normal. Good luck, I feel for ya.

Very good idea.

This is what it currently looks like:

I've let it sit for an hour or so now, and when I went to turn it on to see if anything would happen, it displayed the ascent logo but that was it. I'm hoping that after a full charge it'll work fine. But we will have to wait and see

2m2ui41.jpg

And it's basically changing from the full screen pixelated, to the ascent logo, to half the screen pixilated.

Has anyone seen or heard of this problem yet?

EDIT:
Well this was a weird experience, but the device is finally working now. It had to be related to the battery being completely drained. I'm still not 100% happy that it happened, but at least it's working now and I have a valid warranty if it does go kapoot.
