So it goes.
Im afraid my two year relationship with my redwood zap has come to a conclusion. I went to move her last night and realized she had cooled off significantly. I had just finished enjoying it no more than 30 minutes prior. I thought not too much of it and made sure the cords were all in order. went to bed and found she was still cold in the morning. I moved the zap to a different outlet this morning and upon returning just a few moments ago it has still not heated up again. Im not sure what the issue at hand is. It could just very well be that it was her time to go and there isn't much I can do. Any advice on the matter would be very much appreciated. Im not sure if Im quite ready to say goodbye to a dear friend. Its a sad day/

Since they just use a simple resistor to supply the heat it is something you can fix yourself!
Peel away the leather from the base carefully.
Inside you will see the resistor and it's condition.
If it is the resistor then order a new one like this and solder it in!
This is the resistor:
ohmite 25j20re
Also make sure to test your adapter as something in it may have died.
Quick and simple fix!

So it goes.
LIFE! We have life. Just nearly burnt my thumb pressing it on the metal center. Not sure what it did while tinkering but id worked. I knew you guys would be on this immediately to help me out. I sure need to visit more often on this forum. Id upload pictures if I had a fancy phone to show off her beauty. thanks Lazy for the suggestion. One day im sure ill have to go through with that procedure. I want to prolong her life as much as possible. And thanks Rude boy. that was going to be my next move.

Mmmm, this is sure a bummer. Here I am, a newbie sifting through the numbing volume of vaporizers, finding a near perfect one in the form of a Zap, and now they are not being made. I sure hope they are available sometime in the future. I sure would like to be a customer. Sorry to see what has evolved for the owner/developer/builder.

That looks like a late period rockzap. I have had a very similar looking one operating continuously for about 3 years. Love it!
Important note: Try not to do things that torque, wiggle or rotate the central metal core. The vapor tube should slip in and out of the heat port and rotate smoothly without catching. If if gets sticky from resin and binds to the heatport, clean both sides. You can power down, cool off, and use a q-tip with alcohol to clean gunk off the heat port. This will extend the life of the zap.

Here's someone I actually know who has been put through this unfair, over the top nonsense and it pisses me off.

@Gunky I did notice a bit of a rattle when shaking the Zap. It heated up just fine. Tried it at 11.5v and got very thin vapor and a nice little heady buzz. I imagine I need to be at at least 12.0v for optimum performance. Trust me, I will treat this baby just like all my babies, with love and respect.

When cool they tend to rattle a little because the metal contracts. The wood keeps the impression of greatest expansion, so usually it's pretty tight when hot.
I seem to remember Rick saying that the 12v adapters were typically higher than 12, more like 13 when measured with a voltmeter. I used 13 point something with a variable supply (since burned out;back to standard 12v adapters).

Thanks for the knowledge!I think Rick was using the same AC wall-wart that the PD was using, and the same that we're using for UDs now.. if so it puts out approximately 13.25v under a 20ohm load like a MZ/PD/UD.

We could tell that your golden find is a CRZ by it's engraved lines, and contours.
True the vid link I gave shows the rattle procedure for an old school Zap.
Your CRZ looks similar to a couple of Myrtle wood pieces I have... of course I easily could be mistaken.
If it is, then you do not only have a Ceramic RockZap...
If it is myrtle, then you have the wood that started it all!
Aromazap units were once all referred to as MyrtleZaps!

I do love the lines and contours. Feels great in my hand. I appreciate all the info everyone! It is fairly quick to heat up or at least quicker than I thought. It definitely hits better around the 13.25v range. Might dial it back just a bit for personal preference. It will be fun finding the perfect voltages to suit my mood!

Sorry for the long delay getting back. We do not check the FC forum on a regular basis theses days.
Madcap, My best guess is your CRZ is a maple unit. It was turned by Bob, a real artist on the lathe. He did some turning for us during a short period, then I did all the turning the last few months of Zapvilles life. You can take the bottom off and you will find two small wood screws opposite each other that hold the SS/ceramic innards in place. A slight tighten of those two screws should take care of the rattle if it bothers you. You can then use some Elmers wood glue to re-install the bottom leather or make your own bottom from material of your choice.
Dave is correct, 13 to slightly over 13 volts seems to be the sweet spot for most Zaps.

As with most experiences Pat and I have encountered over the years, this one has also turned out to be a good thing. We have been THC free since November of last year and it has been good for us in many ways. I was a heavy daily user and "shined on" much of life. Oh sure, we got by fine and had a good life but we also missed much in our perpetual fog(me especially). This year we are doing all the work required on Howling Hills, our small organic farm. We are not relying on other family members to carry part of the load which is a good thing. In the past, we had many expectations of others that were not met which put us all in a state of limbo. This year Pat and I are the full team and we are getting it done. The farm looks better than ever and is producing well. We have been making weekly deliveries since the first of May, almost a month earlier than past years. Life is good. We work hard and get sore and tired but we generally sleep very well and are refreshed in the morning.
I have been moved to twice a month for my random UA's from the weekly schedule that I have had since November. In another month or two I should be moved to unsupervised probation. I have completed my 250 hours of community service at the local Humane Society and am now a volunteer. I got along so well with everybody I just could not say good-by as they are all such good, real people. Pat is 70 and I am 68 and we are in good health with a good family including 5 grandkids. Not the prime of our physical life but surely the prime of our life.
I relate this because life is what you make of it. When shit comes your way you can dwell on it or get on with the good part of life. Don't hold grudges, look for the good in people. Oh sure, I see State Police and other LEOs and say "FUCK YOU!", under my breath of course. I do not want anymore battles with any of them and very often they are power hungry pricks. But they have to sleep with themselves and we get to sleep with ourselves. Fuck them.
Keep on keeping on and thanks again to all of you fine FC folks. We miss the old days but life is the book of changes. Always remember that.

I cruise through FC sometimes just to find this particular thread to see if you have done any postings. I'm glad to read that you and your beloved are thriving.
