Discontinued The Firefly Vaporizer

Agree the Pax is great for walking the dog. I've got a big ole XL Bully. But the Firefly provides me with a much better medical experience. The Pax tears my lungs up, have to be very careful. The Firefly causes me much less lung and throat irritation. The end results are much stonger for me with the Firefly for that reason.

I started putting a flat screen (that came with some EQ basket screens) over the bowl of the FF. I find that this reduces the mess and cooks more evenly with less button pushing. The taste may be slightly reduced, but overall I like the convenience. Also nice because you can just throw it in your pocket and it doesn't spill out into the lid.

That's the exact screen I use for a top screen. Sits nicely on the edge of the glass bowl and doesn't interfere with the seal unless you over-pack the bowl. However I only use it for like the last handful of hits, once vapor gets thinner, as it seems to raise the temp and boost extraction. By that time the flavor is way past optimal, so any impact the extra screen has is negligible.

Nice to hear! I feel like I'm still learning little tweaks myself, even after six months of heavy use of the FF. Kinda crazy how such a simple device has such a complex and differing technique from user to user.

I'm still little heavy on the button gotta lay off a little. I can be impatient

It would be nice if that LED gave a little more information on battery capacity.

Anyone else having a problem with material getting in between the plate and screen?

I received my unit back along with the free replacement lid. Having a little distance from the unit was a good aid to reapproach the FF with a "beginners mind" It's interesting how we all go down differing paths with varying results--most of which demonstrate how worthy this device is.

I took some material and hand tore it. This time I didn't bother much with finely shredding it but really just hand tearing some little medium morsels. It worked like a champ and I realized that I get way better, smoother and more flavorful tokes if the material is really dry. So for me it's not just draw speed, baskets, top screens, grind and dryness of herb-but all of these variables and each variable in light of the others like Indra's Jeweled Net. Dry herb takes less preheat. Moist bud longer preheat. Hand tear less debris. Finer grind more debris but better flavor. I think the combinations of these variables lend to this device to be a steeper learning curve than anything else I've used.

I ordered the Aroma Pads for the Herbalizer to try concentrates in the FF. I'll report back.

@mckeen- I definitely notice the FF being less harsh on the lungs over the Pax. While I get better flavor hits with the PAX (first 3-6 hits on medium and the last 2-3 on high) it clearly is hotter on the throat and lungs. If I take flavor and the on the go stealth factor into consideration I still prefer the Pax, but for fast, less harsh, fairly reliable, highly effective medicine delivery system I prefer the FF. In short, for whatever it's worth for the upteenth time, I must have both devices for overlapping and differing reasons. This might explain why most of us have multiple vapes and are always lusting for new ones!

Yes, very common problem...the screen is just barely large enough to clear the edges of the glass bowl, and each time it's removed it never seems to stretch out to its original circumference, and the problem gets worse, and you need to remove the screen more often, which makes it worse...and it's s downward spiral. At least that's what was happening to me on both of my units. The good news is there's an O ring that prevents (theoretically) debris from moving from the plate into the inside of the FF, and if you brush gently under the bowl bottom edge (and blow) you can clean it pretty thoroughly.

I find life is much better with the 7 hole Iolite Wspr screens. They keep the plate mostly clean, are easy to remove and don't change shape or size (they are like little discs). They also fit perfectly and don't alter flavor. Some people don't like using them, so YMMV as usual.

Little clips that come with the screens...apparently necessary for use with the Iolite, but you don't need em for the FF. Just remove the stock FF screen, drop the Wispr disc screen-side up into the bowl of the FF, and Bob's your uncle.

When I pop one of the Iolite screen discs in it rattles around quite a bit and seems like stuff will easily get around the edges. Do they fit snug into yours? Thinking of just putting an original screen in and just dropping the Iolite on top of that.

Yes, mine fit perfect. It'll rattle if the bowl is empty...just pack stuff on top and try it once without the stock screen. Some stuff can still hit the plate, but way less than just using the screen, and it's much faster and easier to pop it out and blow out the debris than prying out and re-inserting the stock screen.

I found It to rattle when clean. If you use it once or twice it should get enough sticky to hold it in tight. When it's loose be careful when emptying I forgot and lost a screen doing it.

I'm using these Wspr screens and just love them. They fit as if they were made for the FF. Be careful when the bowl is clean, you may through the screen out with the spent material. After a couple bowls it stays put perfectly. Thanks again FC!

It's official...we are all spending WAY too much time together.

Seriously though, glad so many folks are using and liking the Wispr screens. FF should do a deal with them and include them with the stock units. (And mostly thanks to our friend @ElPic who first suggested this mod several months ago.)

Haha too funny @mckeen great stoned minds think alike .

Now that I think about it though, the little clip might work well in the ff if it fits. It was designed to hold the screen in place anyway... But like I mentioned a few uses should get it stuck in place so it's not a necessity

How oftendo you guys wipe your lid and the shiny plate... basically the vapor path? I like it shiny so i wipe it every time I use it lol

Okay... I bought a Firefly from @Mynameismud off the classifieds. Received it in a few days and I fired it up- To my disappointment the Firefly was overheating and it felt sluggish- I had to lean on the button to get the heat I need... Contacted mynameismud and he kept communicating with me- Luckily I had access to warranty for this unit that was unregistered so I contacted Firefly... Sent me a replacement unit right away- I was surprised by their customer service. Very impressive!!!

Received the new unit- Adjusted to the learning curve of using a proper functioning Firefly and after a few bowls I picked up and have been getting huge clouds out of it. The unit turns warm to the touch but no big deal-- I had 3 people in my group and we was able to do around 4 bowls and the battery wasnt even spent- I charged it up for 10 minutes and did other 2 bowls as well.

As soon the firefly warms up, the vapor quality is GREAT! The flavor reminds me like it came out of a Volcano...

I seriously think the founders of Firefly was sitting around a Volcano baked out of their mind where they had an idea of taking the valve from the volcano and wrapping a battery, metal body, and a pathway around the valve and manually inhaling the air out of the bowl instead of the forced air!

To date, this is one of the better portables I have ever owned/used and I have owned Pax, Solo, and MFLB and I do see a huge difference between the portables. This basically feels like a monster in my hands.. Would recommend it..

Wow, that sounds insane. How many hits are we talking about? I get about 20 hits per bowl, and all three of my batteries die around 20-25 really long button pushes. Which gives me about a bowl or slightly more on a charge.

Are you only getting 6-8 hits per bowl?

I get 3-4 bowls per hit. 4-15 hits per bowl depending how I hit it lol.

I am getting maybe... 8-12 hits per bowl... Yesterday I could do 4 bowls tossing the bowl when it turned VERY dark brown on the verge of changing to black.. For my button pushes- I assume I average maybe 10-20 seconds per pull? I don't really hold it until the auto shut off kicks in... BUT again I was with my friends and they were learning how to use it so some of their hits sucked but they leaned on the button kinda alot-- By 4th bowl near the end- I could notice a bit of drop off from the heat but I could still milk vapor from it..

If I'm by myself- I can cash my bowl 8 hits or under-- All of them cloudy and tasty.. Since I had Firefly in my hands-- my Munchies have been ridiculous and I have to retrain myself dealing with munchies haha

I told my friend to NOT combust and let the vaporizer high kick in before doing anything- He was like Eh... Eh... Okay then after few bowls off Firefly- he was complaining of how bad he needed to eat.... So I can safely assume it got him lit

Yeah it sounds like your "bowl" and mine are far from comparable...I'm getting like 20 or more hits per bowl and certainly in the back half of that amount I'm holding the button down close to 30 seconds. This is why not only is it not illuminating when we compare "bowls per charge" but it isn't even helpful to talk "hits per charge". It's more like "aggregate seconds of button push per charge". (Be interesting if everyone timed the full "usage" on a given charge...not that I'm suggesting we take on that sort of project. )

Where'd you buy from? If from FF, you're already registered. If not I think you can contact them directly and give them serial number etc.

Well, I'm back to using my FF as my on-the-go (as well as around the house regularly).

Had been using the Ascent but... if I know I am going to have at least the privacy of my car, and won't need more than 1 battery (hell, or even 2), then... I guess, why the hell not use the FF instead?

So very nice to just quickly take my two puffs and then put it away. Not wasting anything, not sacrificing any flavor, not making a big stink, not having to grind, and all in one piece (Solo). I still get the feeling that somehow they designed this vaporizer specifically for me...

Something about using the FF out in the wild... it gives me a certain satisfaction that the other portables I've owned / tried did not.

Over 6 months now and I'm still as excited about using my FF as I was on day one. And still on my first one.

Oh, and of my 3 batteries, I only use 2 of them, and both of them are still giving PLENTY of hits each charge. Certainly not as much as they did, of course, but... I think they're holding up damn well.
