Yeah, I like to use SS mesh, but I think most people use cotton to wrap their dab loads. The problem with cotton is it can definitely scorch a little in high temp Vapes and can affect taste to a certain degree. IMO i think SS mesh is better for concentrates though.

mush it between your fingers after your done. Is there nasty black ash that remains? IMO only time there is combustion is when there is a cherry, and ash afterward. Youd find the taste of the hit repulsive, even if you had dank bud. I say if your still getting nice flavor, your golden.

I'd say the taste isn't smoke-like... it's more towards the burnt popcorn end of things. Right now I feel like I either can do slower sessions with amazing flavor or fast, efficient bowls with some slight burnt popcorn tastes occasionally.

Im one of the few who dont mind the burnt popcorn taste but there is a certain point....I could hit it on my vapolution 2.0, where I would be vaping and all of the sudden I would just want to throw up the taste was so bad. It was turning my bud BLACK as night and made the fruitiest of buds taste like steaming dog shit had just entered my mouth. I think it was about 1 degree of from combustion but when I ran it through my fingers it left the ash residue. I liked to toast mine on 7.5 to 8 sometimes and it would leave VERY dark marks that were damn near black.

That's exactly what I use. Those Herbalizer pads are awesome! I think the size is such that they can be used in a wide range of vaporizers....

don't think this is the case but i know for sure that one problem is that i don't break up my bud that much (using the all glass GONG with sizables holes). i did have the too close problem a few times but have been careful to pack only 2-3 small nugs in each bowl, giving enough clearance for the nano on top.
Move your cotton further down the stem. I had a problem where my cotton was drying out from vaping with the herb when the temp was turned up.
I moved my cotton down to the middle of my claisen way further away from the heat. It's getting nice and reclaim soaked. I can't wait to try some in a max diffusion rig.
@421 - airflow around the nugs is important - I haven't had any problem with a nug in my nano.

Yeah.... IMO you're way too close to the heat. It is going to catch about the same amount of goo if you're that close to the other end. Wouldn't necessarily go that far, but looks like you have plenty of room to get it further from the heat. Another word of advice.... don't have shit to do when you pull the cotton and vape it. Mine knocks me on my ass, and goes on forever. Just can't resist taking another hit, and another and so on until it's done.
I had it right at the end before, but i kept getting little wisps of cotton in my mouth. As for trying it, there's a big hippie fest all weekend, and I'll be using it pretty heavily with some friends. Will probably try the cotton after letting it soak that up, but I was gonna use it a few hours before bed when I didn't have anything to do. I was assuming it'd probably hit about as hard as concentrates, which I go pretty light on. That's collection from barely more than an eighth of pineapple x northern lights cross.

Ordered 2x stems and a GonG, hope they arrive asap!
I have to say though, using the defected GonG in a bong is pretty much no problem at all. Might be hard with herb where you need some distance, but with hash in cotton it worked amazingly well. I think you could probably compare it to how the LSV might work with water tools, although I haven't gotten to try my LSV like that yet as I am waiting for replacement parts.
