Ed's TnT Wooden Vapor Tubes & Vapor Stems

He wants a Dugout type device that will hold an Ed's Solo stem, and also have a separate compartment to store herb.
Something like this?

The only problem is that there is no good solution for a spring to push up the stem. I tried to rig something up with MFLB pushback rings, but it was a fail. :(

Longer stronger spring needed is all.

Seems simple, I agree. I just haven't found a suitable spring. I tore apart some of my son's old toys thinking that I'd find a decent solution from a battery tension spring, but nothing has worked so far. I've kinda given up to be honest. I think it was a PITA for Ed to make anyway, probably not worth his effort for the amount he charged for it.

If anyone has a bright idea of a workable solution, I'm all ears.

Maybe, if it had three compartments, but then it could get more bulky than needed. Each one would have to be custom made to accommodate the different sizes of stems that Ed makes for the Solo, some very short, some very long. The adjoining chamber would most likely be the same size/depth where the herb would be held. Possibly a little bit wider, not deeper, so people would be able to put a little more herb in that chamber.
All dugouts could be the same size no matter the stem length ...just change the length and strength of the spring.

That may not be practical because some of Ed's stems/wongs are pretty short. See the difference?

Use a spacer for the smaller ones. There are no design challenges for an item such as this that can't be simply solved.

.... Or maybe some kind of mechanism like we have in click pens?

.... Or maybe a magnetic lid - and a body that's shorted than the stem - the lid could then house the protruding piece of stem

.... Or maybe none of the above! :D

I like that! Wanna make a perfect box? ...Think outside the box - don't get stuck inside of it!

Hello and good evening everyone! Its been really hot down here, freaking summer time. I cant bitch though fall is not far away and duck season is right after that. I just paid for the one duck lease and may have another bigger one to join very soon. They have several hundred acres on the local river with alot of swamp land, they say its a freaking duck sanctuary! Am really excited and cant wait to shoot some birds!

@Caligula why dont you just let the cat out the bag bro! Its all good to spread the word if you like, I am happy you wanna do so!

Caligula is referring to the clip/ring removal tool, I am making a little change to it, instead of the SS blade I have ordered some medical grade titanium to replace it with. Caligula feels it would be a great mod and might make the tool a little more versatile and maybe appealing to more people. So keep an eye out, @Caligula is gonna be making a sweet video of it really soon!

@tqbf Hello and thank you for your interest in my work. I appreciate your desire to get a wooden solo dugout as well as everyones interest in something such as this. Thing is as @Stu stated I really am not feeling it. The thing is really big and bulky and not very handy at all. Its rather large and just didnt feel good in my hand. The box itself has to be quite thick and a little longer than traditional dugouts. It was kinda PITA to make and if I aint feeling it, it just aint cool, tends to be more work then fun and I dont wanna spend all my time making stuff that seems alot like work.

I like the tube/storage thing that @Snappo posted above, its fun to make and keeps me engaged if it makes sense. Its more of a challenge and I enjoy that! To be honest making dugouts has kinda lost its feeling also. They are big sellers and have been really good for me but when you have to do a couple hundred it begins to get monotonous. I hope you all understand.

@Vicki Thanks for all your contributions this month, if they didnt make it to the car payment, the light bill sure as hell go it! Gonna work on your stand tonight, maybe it will turn out and I can pop it in the mail Monday.

@FlyingLow I have not made anything for the Lotus, no one has ever asked me to do so. Hmm sure I could give it a try if you wanna talk more about it sometime. Give me a holla if you like and lets discuss it.

@Enchantre Oh Oh do I have something for you my lady!!! Turned a couple pieces for ya today that I hope you like, the 5" blackwood Hammer stem is the shit! Its just a straight stem no frills but the grain patterns are mesmerizing! And you said do something that ricks on the Nano stem, so I dug out a piece of figured black walnut, its awful long and full of rocks, two times in fact! You gotta clean that screen a little more often, a little maintenance now and then goes a long way and sure as hell never hurts. I am glad you are enjoying that piece though and cant wait to hear what you think of the pieces I am making now!

@Vapodudule Thanks for stopping by with the post of the pic, I was hoping you would do so. Those were fun pieces to make and a sweet set to boot. I hope the screen mods you have made are working for you and wish you alot of joy with them.

I am sorry for the delay for not being around the last few days. I think I have mentioned it before but the end of the week is my busiest part of the week, thats when I try to get all my wood work done so I usually dont have time to sit down from wednesday to saturday morning. I do pop in during those days but only for a quick peep is all.

I wanna thank everyone for their interest in my work, the opportunities to do work for some, and for stopping by my thread here. I have really enjoyed all you alls posts and kind words throughout. I really appreciate you all and I hope you know how much you mean to me!

I wish everyone a great night, bout to get some Z's before I start another day at midnight!

@Ed

Yeah, i guess it'd kinda get clunky, and not handy at all...

It was just a passing thought.

Cheers.

Hello and good afternoon everyone! Its another hot one down here today, tyring to stay cool and am having a hard time of doing so, there is no escaping the heat.

@Caligula Got that titanium today bro! Look forward to working with it. Will let you know how it goes as soon as I can. Also wanted to show you and @Reflections what I have come up with for a tamper on the end of the clip/ring tool, its another brass ferrule. It does have exposed wood and am not sure how well you think it will work but hope you will let me know your thoughts.

My thinking is it will never see a hot ember of any sort so it should be ok. Also it hard to find any caps of really any sort to cover the end. I did buy some brass screws and screwed then into the end and tried to grind/sand off the top where it would be flush but had no success. Pls let me know if this design will work for you reflections or what else you see.

@Enchantre What I am feeling isnt always what everyone else likes so I am a little anxious to hear what you think. I hope it is what you are hoping it will be and are happy with it. Will be getting it out to ya a week from today, hope thats cool?

@Vicki Oh no, when we spoke you mentioned August, today is awfully quick, I hope the surgery is or has gone well and look to hear from you soon. Should have you done this week and out with next week also. Hang in there and I hope you heal fast!

@P666R How bout it my man, youre not far from me at all, just acouple states up, hope its not as hot as it is down in the deep south. Hope you got my last PM and am looking to hear back from ya soon. Hope you are having a great day and hope to get some wood as soon as possible.

@tqbf Man you dont big and clunky, that aint cool! Thanks for the thought though, it never hurts to think or ask. I am all about questions, especially asking them!
