8 is completely mechanical the hammer has a click on and off feature, so that's probably what you're looking for

So what you're saying is I really need a hammer top plus an 8 plus an iris v2

edit: but seriously though, besides being rebuildable/mechanical and 510/610 thread are there any functional differences?

actually, i guess if i had a core + 8, an iris would be redundant wouldn't it?

What do you guys do when traveling with your perseii? Its kind of a pain cause it always turns off/on.
It looks like there will be a new head (the '8'?) with an off/on function.
I know there is the omicron but that thing deosn't cut it for me...

The 8 has no electronics in the head what so ever. This means no on/off feature.

Some kind of case like a pelican is nice to keep the button from being pressed. Before I had a case, I would leave the batteries out of the tube, leave the top attached to the cartridge for a two-piece setup (3 pieces including batteries). Not as simple as getting a case though. Some people use the Omicron case or sunglasses cases.

Perhaps there is some confusion about what "on/off" means...

Most current generation tops have a "5 click on/off" feature. This means you click the power button 5 times in quick succession to "activate" or "deactivate" the unit. When "deactivated" pressing or clicking the button does nothing. When "activated" you can use the button to power an attachment in two ways.

Traditional tops require a press and hold button in to power the attachment (with an automatic time out after approx 11 seconds (not sure the time limit). Hammer tops allow you to click on (no holding of button) and then click again to turn off (also has a 2 minute time out I think). However Hammer tops have no "5 click on/off" feature. The 8 is purely mechanical, I think it is like the hammer top in function but I may be wrong about that (it won't have a time out).

The primary reason I can see using the 8 is to remove the voltage "blackout" zones that the traditional tops use to prevent bad things from happening). I can see the 8 and Core being a powerful combination that could handle anything (but you better know what you are doing).

I figured he was using a traditional top, since the complaint was it was turning on by itself, which as you pointed out, the new ones won't do. Hammer's the one I worry about, because it won't just momentarily turn on as you mentioned.

My old tops don't time out at all I thought? Maybe I wasn't drawing long enough...

I guess the 8 will only be safe to transport without the batteries installed?

txs fellas. I was thinking of making some cigar box with all that stuff inside.
It's not just the on/off issue, my perseii starts blinking on any impact so taking out the batteries was
my only option so far. I am definitely getting the "core", yes!
Still, I am still not sure what the "8" is for..

The blinking is a safety feature for shock detection/ short protection. The top isn't really turning on, and it's not going to drain batteries with a short blink. I wouldn't consider that more than an annoyance.

Plus, if it's in a case, you won't know if it's blinking. ;)

Edit: If you look online there's this stuff called pick-n-pluck foam, that makes it really easy to use any box as a case. It holds everything down tight. I learnd about it on FC. :)

@THC SCIENTIFIC my iris has adjusted itself somehow. It seems like the body has slid down slightly off the internals making the buttons stick in when depressed about half the time. I was debating an alcohol cleaning with an acid brush incase its just oil in there, but was wondering if you had any info on possible fixes. Asides from waiting for the v2.

you mean the aluminum body slid down?

@thevaf the Core will supply 5 amps or 40 watts max. Anything over it shuts down.

txs for the hint on the pick and plug foam. Just what I need!
I did not mean to purchase the "8" - I was merely curious cause it is veiled in mystery..

All W9 tech products are veiled in mystery until official release! Even the Persei still has mysteries to be discovered in the months to come.

@THC SCIENTIFIC yes there seems to be a slight gap below all three buttons and the top of the buttons are touching the housing. Then will get hung up below it when depressed

Is there like a Titanium or quartz nail that can slide on top of the Hammer's rod?

Damn I still hate posting images with my phone. Hope u can see what I mean. The ohm and power buttons are getting stuck the other just didn't seem centered like it used too.

Edit_ I need the plastic casing to come down not up for the buttons to be centered again. How is the plastic cover in the bottom secured? Looks like a little epoxy or something. I'll try pulling down from the holes in the plastic plate

As a person new to vaporizers I'm very impressed with my ophos but want to get the persei/herc combo as a new user would i be best set up to learn by using the hammer top for the herc for click on click off or just holding the button of the normal top

also im not a heavy user really and in the oil carts 1g lasts me quite a while my last gram lasted about a month about how long should i expect a gram to last in the herc if i only take about 1-3 6 second hits a night?

i know that question is subjective to each user but i guess im just asking for peoples educated guesses based on their own consumption

maybe i should just step up to the persei and a 1.5 ohm cart first?

I dont think the Herc is for you. You Simply dont use that much to justify the Hercs needs. Sorry but keeping it honest.
