they look the same, i am going to find out about getting them with different ohms. i would also like to see a RBA using one and some more types of atomizers in general using this donut.

one thing i did notice is once this thing gets too hot it will no longer give vapor, it needs to be cooled down and then it seems to work. i was using it at 5volts which seemed to be too much heat. i think there is a happy middle ground, too much heat can waste wax from my experience.\
works great at 4.2 for me .

i just so happened to order some donuts from fat daddy today. they are of the 1.25-1.5 ohm variety. i will be using them in an igo-w with a fancy cap. i will be sure to let you know how it goes.

i also wonder why there is so much space and the only thing i can figure is to give the battery some room from having to deal with the heat that is created from the donut. i am pretty sure that was the reason for it being so large as well.
i will keep you informed on the discussions with vendor.

Some people on the Persei thread tweaked the Kiss carts to use the ceramic donuts instead of the coil for a heater.

I believe it was found that if the donut is dry fired for too long it will explode...I'm kinda confused on this because you said you've been using it for a month and self cleaning it by dry firing it....

uh oh, just dry fired mine to clean it white again on my mech mod, no problems though

Several thoughts come to mind. First, the ceramic material has been much hotter in the firing process than it will ever see in service, I seriously doubt a material issue.

And why is it shattering? Normally in ceramics a single crack (at the weakest spot) relieves the tension. Is it perhaps because it's constrained in the experiment? I can see stress build up if it was 'trapped inside a metal straightjacket'. Maybe.

How sure are you that the heater is being used in spec? Not to cast aspersions on our brothers there, dollars to doughnuts they're using Perseis at 7.4 Volts, not the 5 discussed elsewhere in this thread? Mind I haven't been reading there lately, but I still think it's a safe bet.

And "dry fired too much" is not a very solid measure. I surely don't think the maker is doing what he thinks as being 'too much'. I see no reason to question his dry firing to clean it. Rather, I'd be looking for why they might be having problems?

Most of the blown donuts involve over-driving the donut. Variable Wattage devices (eg DNA) almost assure disaster, all ceramic heating elements are subject to thermal runaway. Brief description: DNA set to 20W, reads cold element at 0.8ohms, drives it at 4.2V. DNA then reads hot element at 1.5ohms, drives it at 5.5V. BOOM.
The guy on reddit who blew his up drove it near 5V on an OKR-T/10 chipset.
But, there is definitely a few who blew theirs on just a mech mod, eg discussion at skip to 19:20.
That said, all these stories involve very low resistance donuts, the 0.25ohm and 0.5ohm donuts. The 0.8ohm are tame on a mech mod in comparison.
I'm sticking to my donuts - but I say that with the comfort of knowing that they are caged within a steel enclosure.

ive got some 1.5ohm donuts coming here in the day or two. i am really going to push them and see what happens.

my plan is to use dual donuts, but have them both on the same side of the RDA base. sort of stacked on top of each other, but offset so that the bottom donut will catch any oil that goes through the top donuts hole... this is starting to sound like something not vapor related... you get the idea.

Have been using heavily for some time now, only clogging is from the oil hardening over th dounut, a few button pulses and it all melts again. Never seen a drop of the threads or air holes near the threads

And, pardon my ignorance, where in the bay area are there dispensaries with lounges? Berkeley Patients Group and Green Door SF come to mind. City of Oakland does not allow lounges. Are there lounges out there east (707) where we can chill and vape?

I'm in 510 as well, but have no ideas/information on lounges. None of the Dispensaries I frequent have them......which shows how much I get out I guess? I recall reading about one in San Jose a while back?

Just wanted to chime in here and say I've been enjoying my original skillet atty (not ceramic donut) very much. Someone mentioned bad taste after a weeks use but I call BS on that because mine tastes fine especially when I dry fire and clean it up a bit. I did originally claim I liked 4.2v but have since changed my mind to pulsing it at 4.7 despite it only being a 1.5ohm coil or so. It's not too much abuse as I do very short pulses and the ceramic wick does a good job at absorbing lot of the heat it puts off. I feel like at 4.2 it vapes well but vapor is light and oxygen filled but pulsing at 4.7 gives me something closer to a full lung dab. Oh and something about 4.2v gives me a super dry throat and I cough almost everytime, intensely, like my first dab ever, and I can't even feel it on the inhale, 4.7 on the other hand gives me full flavor and I can more easily gauge how much my lungs are taking in.


And to the earlier poster about the space between the coil and the top of the ceramic donut unit - the space acts as you stated a splash chamber, but also the length can act as a vapor chamber. The unit takes a moment to heat up, melt oil, and then vaporize, so it helps to have fill chamber for vapor while doing so, it functions much like the domes on the older globe skillet atomizers that fill with vapor until you're ready to puff. Also, the more space to cool down the cooler and smoother the hit you receive. It does look rather big though and I'm sure we'll see some new products from Matt in due time.

not sure if the itaste has a protection circuit for anything below 1.2ohm?
but this person had this to say, and a few more should be chiming in on this blog here soon.

I managed to achieve success with my MVP v2, by setting the voltage to 5 and the wattage to 11, after restarting the device to reset the short circuit protection. All in all, this is a very impressive atomizer so far,

I don't think 3.7v is enough to get that donut hot.
