After months of using portable vapes (PnP & Han Solo) i went and got myself a tabletop unit (SSV ofc). I snagged the Rainbow Zen with SGG over at MD for a cool 200 bucks. The only concern i have is that, im reading that 7th Floor are very particular about their warranty and im not sure they honor purchases from Massdrop. But hey! Sometimes we have to take some risks, am i right? I can't wait for it to get here, just in time for Fourth of July. Quick question to all the SSV Vets, Is SGG really the best of both worlds? or is Standard still the best whip/heater cover option?

"Best" is highly subjective. Each wand/HC combo have there strengths and weaknesses.

The standard HC and wand are the cheapest to replace, if cost is a concern. I broke my SGG a long time ago, found it wasn't much more to get a standard Wand + HC ($35) compared to just getting the SGG HC ($28), and was concerned my SGG HC would just break again. And I could buy spare Standard wands ($15) for half the price as the SGG wands ($32).

Yeah i have a feeling that if i ever break the SGG *knock on wood* i will just buy the standard. I just wanted to know if there was any performance differences between the 3 options, but i guess that's subjective how u said.

Hi Everybody,

I live in Europe and I have trouble to find the water adapter for SSV (http://silversurfervap.com/glass/wcfm/ground-glass-water-pipe-adapter.html#)

Did anybody already tried to use the ones designed for the EQ or for the vapor Daddy ?
http://arizer.com/store/en/arizer-parts/26-glass-elbow-adapter.html
http://vapordaddy.com/collections/test/products/tv-w117

The second one looks pretty similar to the 7th floor original one but I'm afraid that the tubing of the SSV is maybe too large.

Thanks for your help !

There's a bunch of "silver surfer water tool adapters" on ebay,
I checked the first couple of listings and they both ship internationally.

Hey Hey
Thanks guys for your help.

The first hits of a SSV session can sometimes be a bit too rich for my throat. Water filtration definitely helps on that point.
That's the beauty of the SSV, you can tailor it to however you like to vape.

I myself have had your problem and can quickly remedy it by turning down the dial or quickening my draw speed.

I have also tried water, but missed the simplicity of the whip and it's accompanying flavour. Still good though.

Absolutely true. I just feel ashamed to use it at 10am :D.

Regarding the SSV, I have to say that out of the 6 vapes I tested in my life, it's definitely the one with the strongest effect (didn't try the cloud or sublimator which seems to currently lead the "strong" league). Even too strong for a daily use sometimes.

However, it was the vape that made me more or less fucked combustion. So I can only thanks to 7th floor for this pretty, affordable, and efficient machine. Definitely a keeper.

Hi everyone, I have had my SSV for 6 months or so now and I absolutely love it. One thing I do instead of using the waterpipe adapter that you have to pay for I just taped my tubing to an unused bowl that I had and hey presto free waterpipe conversion. Obviously this isn't practical if you only have one piece of tubing, but if you have enough of it then it works perfectly and saves you some money if you don't have the spare cash laying around. Heres a video of me hitting my SSV with my afterburner bong.

Just received my Standard wand and heater cover...it seems to be a pretty weak combo...
The wand isn't really round, lots of wobbles at the edge of the glass, where it connects to the HC.
The heater cover, has a really big hole compared to my SGG.

With my SSV on Max, and drawing REALLY slowly, I manage to get some slight vapor, but it's even wispier than my Solo...it also, somehow gets the herb spinning inside the wand.
Any ideas?

That's not normal to be on max and be wispy. Try pulling up the heating element a little bit?

Personally I wouldn't pull on the heating element just yet...that way lies dragons.

As said, make sure the HC is all the way down & just touching the mounting screws then install Tweak's screen mod ....I get huge, milky(sometimes overwhelming) clouds at only 50-60% power with this setup, increasing the power just a fraction beyond then I'm courting combustion.

Also, use a kitchen timer and give the unit a full 10mins to heat.

Hey Hey
If you want to try water filtration, and are broke you can make
a bubbler free to see if water is for you.
The post is at: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/silver-surfer-vaporizer.2/page-71#post-3786

Yeah Vitolo:tup: I must have skipped over that page going through this thread.

Brings back memories of making my own bush billies(in my part of Oz, that's what we call 'em). I must have made 500 of them for myself and friends. That's what we used to smoke through before I saw the light and got some glass.

Some of my friends still use them to this day, grubs:shrug:

HC is all the way down, heating element correctly positioned. Heat up time is not the issue
Intake or output?

I'd bet money that was the culprit. The intake hole shouldn't be that big. They sent me one like that and I've tried to use it several times and it is always week.

Let your vendor know, they should send you a new one.
It's intake that's larger. It's a perfect circle on the SGG and an oval on the standard...

I'm pretty sure it's the heater cover too. But I'm not sure if the herbs are supposed to swirl inside the wand, maybe the wand is a problem too?

I get such thick and satisfying hits from the SGG that it feels like a waste to have bought the Standard, which doesn't make much sense since I bought the standard for even thicker hits, not for wispy vapor...

Hey Hey
I have the flu at the moment, so I've had a bit of time to ponder over my SSV today. I felt the dreaded lurgy coming on a few days ago and decided to order an aroma top because I like using Eucalyptus as a decongestant.
31212409-22F2-4105-973D-B146E836E28B.jpg

It arrived today(along with other goodies from Ausvapes) and worked like a charm.

I also gave my wand an Iso wash and thus came the pondering. If I gave the top a clean with Iso first, do you guys think that on low temp I could use it to evaporate the Iso from my reclaim?

It's made from Borosilicate glass and I only have and will use essential oils, so I don't see why not, but I will bow to the superior knowledge of you guys.

I don't see why not, just start with the temp low and work your way up slowly checking once in a while...
Give us some feedback on how it works. Also I'm interested on how well it works, I'm thinking some Lavender to sleep and Spearmint would be nice...

Fill with water first on lowest setting( to begin ) & see if you can dial-in the correct evap temp....& does the temp remain stable over time.

e2a: on second thought there might be a safety issue as the fumes from iso are extremely flammable & technically the ssv is an ignition source.

Hey Hey
SunnyHours, the aroma top works great with oils. So far two kinds of Eucalyptus, as well as Lemon Myrtle and Frangipani and I'm breathing clearly.

tuk, I'm aware of Iso's volatility, but where I'm doing it is fairly well ventilated, plus I'll run a breeze from a fan just to be sure.

I still think on it's lowest setting it'll be fine, as I'm not after instant evap, just more of a helping hand so to speak. I'll have to wait for my next batch to try though, the last lot has been and gone already:D
