Arizer Solo

Quick update. I had to scrub the battery test, one of the batteries is trash. The beat up one.....

Funny kind of failure, I think it might be a common one. It charges 'normally' or what could pass for it I think. Shows step 7 on the battery meter, but six or seven minutes into the first 'full blast, open top' session it starts to get a little erratic as it shuts the heater down. A minute or so later I noticed the 'charger' LED is flashing just as it shuts down. I'm color blind, but I think it's 'the wrong color' for charging. IIRC it also lights up (red?) when the battery seriously needs charging?

At that point, restarting it shows one or two lights.....way to low for a partial session. Letting it go further, the 'charge' flash gets stronger each heating cycle then suddenly it went dark. No lights, I couldn't turn it on again. Stone dead. A few minutes charge got it on again, but still in deep trouble. I think the protection PCB locked it out (as it should) when the weaker cell dropped to 2.5 Volts (the usual trip level). The other cell should be more or less full charged still, so the total is probably something like 6.5 Volts?

Anyway, I have a spare pack from my rebuilding adventures a while back. I put it in and it ran a full blast session just fine. It's now fully charging for another run.

BTW, this one unit has had a tough life. 3 more bits of the bottom fell out changing the battery, one of them 1/8 or so square and an inch long. It ran across the back between the screws. Now one edge of the S/N plate is hanging in space. After this test, I'd better get hot with the epoxy or I'm going to end up with no bottom at all. Character? Oh, yeah, it's got that in spades.

Anyway, looks to me like someone beat one up, ran the battery into the mud then swapped it out before the two years was done? I has enough battery life left for a single normal session at step 4 but that's about it.

So just outta curiosity, what's ya'll preferred temp/level for vaping? When I first got the solo, I was a 4-5-6 guy. Start at 4, and eventually land on 6. Then for a few days I was doing strictly 7's (thanks to VapeLife Will) and loved it. Now today I've been doing 5-6-7 and think I like that a lot...probably switch off doing that and just 7.

What's your guys routine?

Whatever works for you?
When I was a teen-ager 7.0 would replace a ZIG ZAG!

Decades later I like level 3 dry and level 4 wet.

@OF coined the HAMSTER postion I like lately: A JHOOK and a GonG with a glass of amazing CALIFORNIA red! (level 3)

BLACK WATER @ 420!

Now don't go dragging me into this, you were out to lunch long before I came along, we got witnesses......

You didn't think any would survive, now did you?

What's your guys routine?

I tend to hang out around step 4, except when hooked up to a WT and I'm in 'that mood'.

Start at 2 dry, end up at 7 with water (water at 5 usually).

Dry:
I start at around 2 or 3 depending on strain/dryness. I then "vaporstep", go up 1 level at a time when I start to get unsatisfactory hits. I end on 7.

Friends and neighbors,

The new battery pack put the worn out warrior back in the saddle.....big time. The new pack got 10 'full blast open top' sessions (to no lights on start up plus 1). I expect that to drop off a bit in the first few dozen cycles but basically 'as new' or a bit better. The nicer looking one, OTOH, gets only 7 runs in the same conditions. My guess is the battery is getting tired, but hopefully will have a few hundred careful cycles left and it can, of course, always do PA at any point.

My bud is going to have a decision to make I think. I'm not going to put the new battery in the nice unit for him to get and leave me with beat up one and tired battery. Fair's fair. OTOH, I'm no doubt the guy who will be replacing that battery pack for him in a year or two......

Anyway, overall a very good deal IMO. Too bad PIU ran out so fast (go figure why that might happen......), I hope they do it again soon. If Randy didn't do this, I fear those old Solos would be on their way to Solo Heaven instead of making good folks happy.

Congrats to those who got on board, I think you'll feel you scored too. Best wishes to those who got to the station late, I hope another chance comes by soon. Be on the look out and keep that Visa card dusted off.

K folks. Here is my "open box" Solo from PIU. It is an "M1D2" PA bypass model. The body is flawless with no imperfections but the bottom base has a major chunk missing from the corner. No biggie cuz I never see it and it in no way affects performance. It came with a bag of screens and o-rings, plus 2 brand new straight stems.

It came fully charged so I put it thru the ringer right away. Worked just fine and charged up overnight.

All in all.... SUPER PLEASED as it is a working Solo that I got for on the low-low. I would be on the lookout if they offer more of them up.

Drive thrus and Marijuana Farmers Market

My friend sent me this article from toke of the town

http://www.tokeofthetown.com/2012/07...-thru_wind.php

Washington's Sonshine Organics Also Features A Marijuana Farmer's Market Twice A Month

"A medical marijuana access point in Olympia, Washington, has taken convenience to the next level, opening a drive-through window for patients.

Having visited about 70 collectives now in my capacity as "Toke Signals" marijuana/dispensaries reviewer for the Seattle Weekly, the drive-through window at Sonshine Organics is a feature I've never seen before. To my knowledge, this is the first one in the Pacific Northwest.

Sonshine, at 3211 Yelm Highway SE in Olympia, also hosts the Washington Farmer's Market, which gets growers, medibles vendors and patients together in a very community-oriented atmosphere. While lots of people on the medical marijuana scene use the word "community," some of them actually work to build one, and that's definitely what's going on here.

The Washington Farmer's Market, held from 10:30 to 5:30 he first and third Saturday of the month, features a friendly group of vendors and regular patients I see almost every time I go. Far from being insular and exclusive, though, the folks at the Market warmly welcome newcomers; from the very first time I visited last year, I felt at home.

The Market usually includes about 20 vendor tables, offering a variety of cannabis flowers, concentrates, topicals and medibles. That variety is extremely empowering to patients; good old-fashioned competition helps keep prices low and quality high, and many vendors offer on-the-spot sampling."

Oh I do. And it gives one hope doesn't it?

It was on the Ascent thread I think. Your being confused authenticates the post......Thanks. Too bad you need their MMJ card......we should work on the Concealed Carry rules for guns where out of state permits are accepted. After all so very many think a gay marriage in another state is good in their home state?

Fair is fair, after all.

Thanks for the post, complete with photos no less.

Hi guys,

Is it normal for some herbs to not vape as dark as others or is my arizer solo not heating the material as hot as before. When I cannot get anymore vapor on 7,I empty the contents each time only to see that the material is still light brown. Please help!

Thanks!

First off, welcome to the fun. Lots of good folks here as you may already know?

Sorry you're having troubles, but yes somewhat non uniform ABV is normal. How's that for a qualified statement? Simply put, it's pretty common for the stuff lower down (closer to the cup) to come out darker.

While anything is possible, I strongly doubt the Solo has 'gone cooler' like some vapes (like MFLB) might. This is a 'closed loop' system, the temperature is measured and the heat adjusted as needed. Like your home heater, open a window and the thermostat adjusts the furnace and all is well. Only this 'thermostat' is pretty high tech and very dependable. If the heater 'cycles' (turns on and off in use) it's almost certainly running at the right temperature.

If things seem different, I'd look elsewhere (than a hardware failure) for why. Like change of bud or stem?

Best wishes,

Switch out battery to my original 107 and all is well.12 minute timeout, vapes great.
Also came with 2 stems I was going to order anyway so was a great deal for me
Time for a CentiZen battery upgrade.

First off, I assume you meant "vapes great"? Gaping is on a whole other Forum.......

Thanks for the report. I fear many/most of these guys will have weak batteries. IMO not a big deal (for most guys), and it's a useful source of the old style units (at least for now).

Makes me wish I'd got in on the $25 factory batteries PIU had before the stock was exhausted and the price went up. Still, even at $45, you end up with a 'as new' (at least functionally) old style unit for 2/3 the price of the newer style (which I think many of us favor?).

I bet Brother CZ is going to make some bucks on this......I wonder if he's going to put in a pool in a fit of Ataxian envy or just put it in the kid's college fund?

Can it just be the herb because I did get some new stuff today, thanks!

Always a good place to check first.

What's the old troubleshooting joke? "What was the last thing you did before the lights went out?". Works here too. "What changed?" is a powerful troubleshooting tool.

Enjoy your Solo, that's what it's for. There's plenty of other things to worry about.....

Some herb doesn't get as dark as other herb when spent. You don't see anymore vapor when there is nothing left in your herb.

But I have some Blackberry Kush that doesn't turn a real dark brown when the goodies are gone. I like a little left in my ABV for edibles or a suave.

If your herb is too wet that doesn't work well in any vaporizer. Not like the old days with a pipe.

Moisture levels vary sometimes between batches and curing technique or lack of one?

I have this stir rod I use with my SOLO lately. I stir after 4 rips about.
ABV I don't save so I maximize my extraction during my session.

I know it's a small bowl however just try it. If you don't like it so be it.
However since I started stirring more for every vaporizer my sessions are more fruitful!

When I first started vaporizing I never stirred because I would just save my ABV and make POLLEN PELLETS or QWISO. However I couldn't hand the taste so I would just dump a load after a session and like you I noticed the color uneven? My cannabis requirements were a bit excessive.
Some young gun talked about stirring? What stir? Sounds like work?

Guess what?
My consumption was drastically reduced!

Try Stirring!

Ordered my first Solo today and expect to receive it by the weekend.
It will be the back-up/ switch-out/ home-use vape to accompany my first vape, an Ascent.

Now, when will this state have signage like this that I can access. I am tired of being a second-class citizen- too healthy for a card and here the symptoms suitable for the obvious replacement medicine to problem drugs like Prozac, Xanax, etc is not a qualifying condition.

Congrats, great vape, great call.

Don't be too surprised/disappointed if the Ascent starts getting less use. Both are great vapes I think, but Solo has a big advantage in the 'grab, load and go' department.

Please let us know how the new vape fits into the family? TIA

So I've been messing around with my solo the past few weeks and it seems that if you cut a filter into a square and roll it up, then place it in the middle of an arizer bowl, pushing the weed closer to the walls where the heat is, it rips very well. Only tried once so far...
