Have you ripped out the .45 coil yet? how did it vape? Sounds like a beast.

Wonder how my 70 watt nano dragon coil would vape if I stuffed the middle with shatter :D might have to rewick it tonite to try it out obviously it would just do one dab per load... Should be a helluva dab tho.

Oh yea and the clouds were lovely. I was thinking about making a nano, but lately I've been on the opposite path making macro coils. It is a lot easier to toss a dab on a 3mm diameter coil

here is the stovetop coil i built that is sleeved in ceramic readyXwick.

as you can see i had to use kanthal at the ends of the wick to keep it from fraying, but it worked very well. so this was the 3mm wick... i have ordered some 2mm and i believe that with that i will be able to produce a much cleaner and tighter coil. still experimenting. oh and sorry for the large pic... i cannot edit the size on my phone, but will take care of it tonight.

this coil was too large to fit in my RDA so im hoping the 2mm wick will allow for a smaller setup as well.

for the record i did fire this coil up to see it in action and it vaped some reclaim very nicely. if i can get one to fit in my RDA this may be my go to coil.

@2clicker why cant you just wind a smaller stove top?
Do you think a nano coil would fit within the 3mm braided ceramic? Like wire wound around a 20ga needle.

the wick has too much material and pushes back against the wire. i tried numerous times to get it smaller/tighter and was not successful. when i look at the 3mm vs the 2mm online i can see that the 2mm is a much tighter braid or weave... i should be able to wrap it tighter than the 3mm. we will see when the 2mm arrives in a day or two.

i wouldnt be surprised if you could build a micro coil to fit inside the readyXwick. which is a cool idea. you could probably even squeeze some 2mm wick inside the coil. still tho you have a cylinder shaped coil. i am going for a round pad to set dabs onto. loading onto traditional shaped coil can be a PITA. i feel a small pad or "dab pad" would be ideal. i could mount it above the posts and likely be able to load it by dropping oil through a wide bore drip tip.

i am confident that the 2mm wick will produce what i am after.

been considering getting some vaping donuts as well to play with.

to those who are interested in some high temp silicone orings for their igo-w or igo-l... they have been ordered. i expect to see them tomorrow or friday. i will let everyone know when they arrive and how they fit.

they were $13 for the 50pk and mcmaster carr charged me $7 to ship them. is $5 fair for 10 orings...? let me know what you think.

they arrived today and they are PERFECT! sooooo much nicer than the stock orings. fits both my igo w&L.

i have only one 10 pk left.

indeed it does. and it needs further testing but so far results are pretty damn good. its harder to control than a traditional coil, but i am already getting the hang of it. here you can see i have wrapped the coil around the center neg post on my igo-l base. so far the oly name i have come up with for it is the "horseshoe" coil.

it has a much larger surface area of which i really like. the downside is that there is more wick so some oil may absorb off to the side and not get vaped. i am going to build another with a longer coil. more to come on this!

as for the orings... they are all spoken for. i will reach out to those via IM about paypal stuff. stay tuned.

I wonder what it would be like if you had a coil wrapped around the wick as well as the one inside the wick. Maybe using the thinner wick. If you used the same gauge wire, the outer wick would be longer, and hence more resistance, so it would heat slower and not as much, but you could compensate for this by using a thicker gauge wire on the outside wrap.

Just a thought that popped into my mind; don't know if it's a good idea or not though...

i like the idea there. ive got some vapin donuts arriving today. after i put those thru their paces i am going to try the stovetop sleeved in ceramic. if neither of those work as well as i hope i will be coming back to this idea.

so my donuts and 2mm readyxwick has arrived. i first tried the donuts. they vape amazing and taste great, but its hard to keep the oil from drilling right off. not done experimenting with those yet.

then i built another stovetop coil sleeved in ceramic. except this time it was the 2mm wick. and let me tell you... i am in love. this coil is my new fave. i have it mounted on top of the igo posts and its centered... so it sits directly under the drip tip hole. and because i use a wide bore tip, i can drop oil in directly through the tip and onto the coil. it tastes amazing, absorbs much more oil (keeps it off the deck), and is easily self cleaned. oh and one other thing... its the easiest coil to build (for me anyway). i already know how i can improve it a couple of ways. this coil makes loading and vaping oil easier than ever.

@2clicker I love the idea of the sleeved stovetop coil and would love to see a pic of your build. I have everything I need to try this out except some free time to sit down and try it out. Hopefully this weekend. I'm hoping I can build one small enough to fit in the smaller 14500 mods I've been using lately.

you got it. like i said ive got a couple of ideas to make this even better. i am going to switch from phillips screws to set screws. this will reduce the height of the posts and allow for more room. also, instead of a flat stovetop i am going to attempt a coned stovetop. sort of a bowl shaped coil. the extra space will allow for the bowls height and width.

i LOVE this coil. the improvements stated above should make it even better.

ok, ordering supplies now. Would the extra size of the igo w5 be handy here? It doesnt seem to be too cramped to me in yours

Got one of these sleeved stovetop coils built on my small 14500 mod. It fits pretty much perfectly. It is a little bit high almost touching the top cap. I'll lower my next build as much as I can but this one works so well that it will probably stay in there a while. 28awg kanthal, resistance ended up at 1.2ohms. That is about as low as I'll go on a 14500. The hits are about perfect at this resistance though, it doesn't get as hot as an exposed coil at the same numbers.

Loving this build so far. Super easy to load and I don't think much of anything will drip down past the coil to the deck unless I get super greedy when loading.
Thanks for the inspiration, this continues to be my favorite thread on FC.

@2clicker this is great!

So how does the coil light up? If you dry burn it, does the ceramic glow? What color? When you drip how does it behave?

nice build! looks good. the set screws should help keep the coil lower. i will report back on those. also i am looking to get the resistance right at about 1.5-2ohms so im thinking more wraps. which in turn give the coil a larger OD. more real estate means even easier loading.

well it doesnt seem cramped until i put the top onto the cap (its a 2pc cap). the inside of the top piece is concave so the wider the coil, the lower i must go. the set screws should allow for a wider coil. regarding the igo-w5... it may well help. hard to tell from just pics.

the coil lights up the same as any stovetop coil. from the inside out. yes the ceramic most def will glow. its a great way to clean it every now and then. it glows orange. i load by placing shatter right on the coil. then i hit the button a couple of times to warm the ceramic. this will melt the dab into the wick. then i cap it and puff away.

ive got some parts coming in the next few days. when they arrive i will build the larger sleeved stovetop coil. this time it wil have a raised outer lip. i mentioned it was going to be bowl shaped, but now i thinking it will be more like a plate. flat w/ raised edges.

pics to follow
