Best wax/oil pen all day use?

Hi,
Could someone give me some suggestions for a portable pen that would fit my needs? Im finding it difficult to wade through long threads trying to understand different features.

Im looking for a pen that is made of very high quality, safe materials that could be used with all types of wax, oils, shatter, budder etc. From what I can tell that seems to mean I should try to stick to titanium and ceramic? Id like to avoid plastic and cheap parts as much as I can.

Id like a pen that could be loaded once in the morning and used fairly heavily throughout the day.

From what I can tell the Dr Dabber is kind of close, except it is load as you go. Id like something where I could load it ahead of time. Basically something more like an o-pen vape cartridge, but without the plastic.

I already own the persei, I purchased it when it first came out and never used it much because I didnt like the metal carts that it came with.

Id really appreciate any help. I cant tell if I am better off getting some kind of new cartridge attachment for my old persei or if there is some newer model pen I should look into. Thanks for any suggestions, Im not at all current with this stuff and I dont know where to begin.

you may be quite happy with any of the solid oil pen vapes with a heating wire wrapped around wick. There a quite a few out there. They all work about the same in my opinion. the latest buzz around this stiff would be the Ti Kiss Carts from W9Tech, with its grade 2 titanium heating wire in a cart with no solders or glues.

but i'm not much of a fan of those style of heaters. they don't hold enough and they are too fragile.

for quite a while now, i have been using the Persei with the Hercules cartridge (sr71) and the Nibler XL bubbler on it.

the Hercules cart itself functions better than any oil device i have had before it. (that says a lot. i've been an oil head for years)

the older Persei, on the other hand, were not too good to me. I burned through several heads before the newer ones with better protection circuitry came out.

Your persei may be too old to be under warranty, and the stock batteries weren't up to the needs of the Herc, so going that way is one of the pricier options in the short term. Still i think it is the way to go.

Im sure my persei is well past warranty, Im guessing it is more than 2 years old at this point.

Would upgrading the batteries in my old persei be enough to get it to work with the hercules? Im thinking Id rather replace the batteries and use that persei until I run into issues with the head, and buy a new persei then. Would that make sense? Or am I better off just getting a newer persei?

Exactly how much wax/oil does the hercules hold? Are there any types of wax that wont work? Sorry for such simple questions, Im not finding very clear answers anywhere.

i would say i keep it between half a gram to a gram. I find it works best with very solid oils and shatters.
thin oils like PureGold kind of run through the cart when it heats up.

right now i have de-waxed bho of blue dream. I would call the texture a sap and it works well enough, as in not much running through the cart into the bottom chamber to be collected later.
stuff that is hard like sugar candy doesn't seem to run through at all (with a few cool down pulls after each hit)

I agree. If you already have a Persei you should get an SR74 for it.

but if he has an older, non-protected head, and batteries that can't power the Herc, he basically needs to start from scratch.

Batteries are cheap and why can't he sent the head in for an upgrade?

I really appreciate the advice here. Im thinking I will contact persei and see how much an upgraded head would cost. From what I can tell new batteries would only be around $15, does that seem about right?

The hercules definitely seems like what Im looking for, I just need to see if it makes more sense to upgrade or replace my old persei.

FWIW, W9 has a warranty you can buy after the fact for their products. I believe the Persei warranty is $60 but it's well worth it. As for batteries, $15 or under sounds right.

BTW the owner of the company posts a LOT in the Persei thread here on FC. I suggest posting there.

Get the SR-74 and check it with a multimeter for proper resistance, and it will work fine on your older Persei with new batteries. If you have any issues just submit a ticket at w9tech.com and they'll fill you in! Maybe they can upgrade you to a newer Persei for a fee- I'm sure if you contact them, you would not have to buy a new Persei at full price to get set up. The Persei thread in the handheld forum has tons of information on all the things you can do with the unit you already own. If it's been a long time, even the EO carts are probably better now than they were when you bought your unit (as far as metallic flavor & clogging go)

Yeah, I'm with BK Sam on that one. I ran a Hercules on an unprotected top for many cycles without a problem (and the top is still working). It's critical to get assembly correct on the old top and the multimeter will do that. I got one for like $5 on amazon or harbor freight likes to give them away sometimes. Cheap insurance against downtime.

I would recommend the Hercules to people more often, if it wasn't for the "but the Persei is so expensive" response I often hear. In your case you just need a Herc and new batteries, a very modest investment to get you a best-in-class solution.
