.I also realize that the Solo has rather hot temperatures, after setting 4, is there much reason to go hotter?

Setting 5 will get you a bit more medicated and 6-7 is great for bedtime or getting couch locked.

I think the temperature is something very personal and depends on how you use it. For example, when I use it with a bong with water I start at 4 and finish with 6-7 but whn I use it alone I start in 2 and finish in 3-4, other users here start at 3 o 4 and finish in 6-7. Everything is subjective
Other thing, when I use alone the external temperature of the solo it's good but the times I put in 6-7... damn! It's so hot jajaja (not to burn you but very hot)

Some cloud chasers like 6 and 7.

Try the domed screen method. 3/4" or bigger if you can. Having a loosely packed load as close to the heater source is better.
I discovered the last tip while trying to get higher and yes it did. I really noticed a new thicker layer of thc covering my brain while doing so. Pump with your mouth instead of your lungs. Hard. Many times. Feels smoother into the throat too. Hit under the tongue helps cooling the vapor too. I get more vapor faster this way compared to the slow yogi in equilibrium with the solo breath. And pulling hard with my lungs irritates them.
I have been vaping 1 year, only with the solo, reading fc and trying to get affected by VAS. But niet. Not pulling the trigger. Sometimes thinking about a heavy hitter, but I can get pretty useless binge vaping on my solo. And its perfect for 0.05-0.07g loads when I dont want to get too vaped out.

By this do you mean instead of breathing in kind of suck like a straw or if you were going to do a smoke trick? (and inahle afterwards ofc)

My sweet spot is to start at 4 and work up to 5. I have some strains I need to go hotter or cooler. I have some herb that doesn't get real dark when it's spent. It stays a medium brown.
When I'm using wax with my herb I start at 5 and go to level 6. With a WT I start at 5 and go to heat level 7
I like a bit of life left in my ABV for edibles.
Those of you new to the Solo it just takes some practice to see what works best. You will find your sweet spot too.

Not sure I understand the different draw you explain. Not a smoke trick expert
. And to be honest, I still need polishing in the technique. I feel I sometimes "close my throat" on the cloud causing irritation. Keeping me from chasing big clouds. Other times, well, OMG 
I pump endlessly untill I need o2, exhale a bit, rebreath a bit to hold it in as long as I can and get more intense effect. I pump using jaw movement, then a open/close motion happens in the throat to let the vapor in. Another way to explain is its the exact same pump action than drawing on a milkshake, then swallow the vapor in the right hole.

, do you use your abv to make anything? Or maybe your stem to reclaim? I'm curious how strong your resulting excretion would be.

I throw away ABV (can't stand the taste)
For me it's easier to make a well purged shatter instead.
When I use to made it - it was strong.
However my shatter has way more flavor.
I use the top colas to make my medicine!
Why not grow your own medicine?

I ordered a black one and was tempted to place the description of my order in the special notes, but it was not aforementioned here about incorrect color or color shortage of the Solos.
Anyway,
Taste Is King. Even the taste of a 12+ minute-old bowl is more hearty and enjoyable than other vapes I've got around there.
I started and most likely will end at 4 on the Solo. Just finishing up my first sesh n a half. Hehe
I take my hat off to those of you who could stop at the 12 minutes on your first go with this baby. I'm honestly loving the experience.
I guess I can see the application for high temperatures, late nights when I'm headed to bed or I just wanna get a nice couch lock. Still though, most of my vaping is Active medication so to speak.

afaik ,you can't get real couch locked with a vape.
I use aurora indica and never felt it, even on 7

I lean to Sativa or INDICA base on my needs at the time.
Regard less of the level I choose to vaporize at.
Sometimes I mix strains.
I have some INDICA that will couch lock you at level 3 and I like level 4.
OK I take a nap in the middle of the day with some strains.
I don't go above 4 however if you can why not?
We all have our way of managing.
Do whatever works?
Their is not one way concerning medication.

Finally got my solo running again. And finally got my password problems fixed here.
So, instead of getting a new battery, I just got the PA and bypassed the battery. I like this option since it's lighter without the battery...making it less top-heavy when on the bong. I don't like the lack of portability.
I'm considering getting another solo to travel with and keep this one as a desktop. Does that sound like a better option than getting a log vape?
I've noticed a clicking noise coming from the solo when I'm holding it near my ear sometimes. What is this??

Hard to hear, can you hold it closer to the computer?
There have been some reports of this, some hear it (sometimes) some don't it seems? I've heard the same noise you MAY be talking about, as have others, the general opinion is we're listening to expansion and contractions due to heat (like home oven or even a toaster might make). It happens mostly on heat up (and cool down), not so much 'at temperature'?

Ugh...... So my Solo finally is kaput. A trusty M107 I got from our buddy mvapes a couple years ago.
When I turn it on.... It lights up to 7 right away and stays lit. The "heat" light doesn't flash and so it doesn't heat up whatsoever. I can adjust the temps but it doesn't do anything but stay lit on 7.
I tried resetting it (plug in... Hold 4 secs.... Wait 10... Unplug)
I tried unplugging battery and replugging. No luck.
So.... As I figure it to be a battery issue, I goto PIU to order a replacement battery and see they have "open box/returned" Solos.
So I went ahead and ordered one for $65. Hell of a deal IMO as PIU has "tested" and "cleaned" it. At only $20 more than a new battery... I figure WTH.
So I can always order a new battery and hopefully have 2 solos to play with!
Also.... In case anyone is looking for a Solo on the cheap and doesnt mind the "open box" Solo.. This is a great option.

Thank you to the kind folks with words of wisdom. First I tried giving it 2 full minutes to heat up, and 2 minutes in between hits. That yielded better extraction and larger tasty hits, but longer waiting in between of course. I had forgot to dome a screen. So next load I slightly domed a screen, and that helped a too, and I finished off the gong stem with a lung buster on 5. I don't know why, but I got a massive hit, and it felt like I got kicked in the chest. At that point it tasted decarbed. I need to get some bigger screens to dome.
One major difference I've found, and this might not be the same as everyone else, is it seems water cuts back or greatly slows down the decarbed taste. I like that.
I can have a tendency to over analyze some stuff, I think I will stop over analyzing my technique and just have some fun. Unfortunately now I do have VAS. I've never really dropped more than $100 on any equipment for using pot in the last 20 years, so it was a big deal for me to drop $160 on top of glassware and one of ed's stems. It was worth it though. I am more than satisfied.
I never really went over my routine.
I grind fairly fine (going to change to a little more coarse - thanks CarolKing)
Start heating at a 3-4 depending on strain
Suck it up, pack a little, level off as close to the edge of the glass as possible
Put Solo on GonG & D020 bubbler
I then either start inhaling at 2 or 3, and let it catch up for the next 4-5 minutes and sip flavor
or
Wait until it's steady at 4, then draw, waiting a minute in between
Was waiting 1 minute between draws, now waiting for 90-120 seconds
Increase to 4 or 5 depending on strain
straight tube is some strains start at 2, most at 3, end on 3 or 4, wait a minute between pulls, will now try 1.5- 2 minutes between.
I think I'm gonna stop thinking about the 12 minute time out and just vape until I want to stop, and enjoy the Solo, while playing with different techniques. I'll find my Solo Mojo.
I'm kicking myself for not getting any more GonGs, could try different screen levels with several GonGs.
One thing I really like about vaping is I can really get a good idea about the quality of my herb.
You definitely can get a body high effect/couch locked from a solo. Just fully finish a load until it's spent, and you will get the full effect.

for some reason I find myself treating battery life like it's as precious as herb, Let the battery level drop to one light and I feel as anxious as I do when down to my last eighth of herbs. Crazy ! Yeah I know.

I recently broke the bent stem I got with my Solo and as I don't really like the straight one, I decided to buy another.
The thing is the new stem won't fit my Solo, but not in the usual way.
The stem does fit (although very tightly) in the "oven" of a pre-heated Solo, but it won't fit in the top cap.
The end of the stem forms a little "lip" that protrude from the stem profile, only by a tiny bit, but just enough to be too large to fit the cap.
I know there are variations in every stems, but the new one I got looks a bit different from my broken one.
The bowl is larger on the new one, the angle doesn't seem to be the same and the "screen" part isn't the same either.
I bought the new one from an authorized Arizer seller based in France, so I guess they are selling stock stems.
I contacted them about the stem not fitting, and as I haven't bought my Solo from them, they told me they were going to check with Arizer to see if they changed something regarding the stems, possibly making my model number (bought in May from Massdrop) incompatible with the stems they sell (they advertise selling M1D "2014 version" Solos).
Edit: While i'm posting about this, is there any way to make a clean cut on my broken stem ? I don't have much tools, so DIY solutions are more than welcome
