You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
For me, use with WTs is where the Coil shines, I cant think of another vape that fits all WTs out of the box that is Soft-Flame Operated(regular lighter)besides Vaporstar? And ive managed some pretty dense non-charred hits with the Coil(requires skill), comparable even to the Lotus....
I don't mean to rain on your parade, bc I agree the coil is a great cheap vaporizer, yes. However, it does not fit all WTs. Also have vinegar nearby for your first crescent moon shaped, branding. :whip: Although, how many vapes are nearly indestructible, under 35$, and deliver the goods each time, no warm up necessary !?!

just a question : today I v noticed that after a month the metal inside the top part of my VG is totally black...I have cleaned it with a fabric but lot of dark kind of oil acumulated there...

It's normal, simple soot like you'd find in an oil lamp chimney......or a fireplace for that matter. A fine coating of very small pieces of carbon that came from fuel that didn't 'burn' to CO2. Cold metal has simply prevented the last reactions from happening, nothing really evil about the lighters or their fuel. It can, however, build up and foul the heat exchanger in extreme cases. There's a torching procedure (using a vacuum cleaner) on the VG site for extreme cases. Otherwise wipe it out and soldier on.

A torch should stop this formation.

Enjoy your VG.

Yah, I wasn't really refering to torching, which might require mods to avoid combustion for repeated hits. Although I'm not with the coil now, I have a clear memory of vaping a load with a regular lighter, pretty evenly(required stirring) and getting some good dense clean hits(with proper draw technique).....no mods that I can think of are required to achieve even vaping from the start. But Egzoset has more VG experience than me so any mods he recommends, are, well......recommended.

No parade to rain on......I'm sure most people know what I meant by that is it fits 14mm and 18mm joints out of the box, Yes I think it's safe to assume it won't fit those plastic bongs with metal downstems(without modding), or something >20mm..........but hey, "MOST WTs" is good enough for me. I was more emphasising on it being soft flame powered.
As far as "crescent moon branding", I guess you mean burns on your forhead/arm? from the top of the coil.......it might be just me, but I dont see that happening the way I use it(Sits in WT).

sorry for double posting......

Still waiting since few weeks for the better lighter and a couple of rechargeable torch...I hope this ll make the difference ! One more thing : if I need to clean the VG in order to travel and go trough customs without fearing any inconvenience is it possible to put the heating section into 100% ISO ? I can't figure out if is possible to unmount it from the wood body in order to clean it properly...

Yes, the heat exchanger is Silicon Carbide, seriously tough stuff (diamond is tougher, but not by much....). You can soak it to your heart's content. And torch it at will.

To remove it from most VG models you need to remove the spring clip above it (from the top).

In use, however, wood models will absorb 'incriminating deposits' in the wood. Basically impossible to remove if they want you bad enough. If you plan on customs runs you might consider an all metal model, like a coil or bat?

Is a double torch overkill? I can pull some huge clouds will no scorching but still. Too much fire?

No. That's where the 'magic' of the heat exchanger come in. The Carbide it's made from is basically 'heat proof', it can survive any torch you might try (up to a cutting torch.....), it just sucks up the heat fast and meters it out slow (as needed).

Hard and fast is the same as low and slow to it. Heat out is decoupled from heat in. It's 'exchanged' (stored and dispensed later) unlike say Lotus, or to a lesser extent Vapman (which at least has some copper mass for a buffer but being conductive can be overridden more easily).

Blast away in good health.

Good to know! I have a single flame on the way but this double works great if I shorten the flame! Faster hits than my LB! And taste is pretty damn good on this fruity shit I picked up yesterday.. Gunna try this cotton candy stuff today while fishing! Got my book, got my coil, now I just gotta go get some beer and it's time to relax!

Don't forget a few worms to drown......the extent of my fishing advice.

Except, of course, for the traditional warning about not going out with only one Mormon (also works for Baptists....). And Methodist, come to think on it?

Salutations KahlilHC,

...no mods that I can think of are required...

Lucky you, although i apparently required as much agravation it turns out the average candidate can hope for a much easier deal: IMO the genuine VG Classic pipe can be made more "universal" than it is now and it could actually be made the very 1st Bi-Energy portable cannabic vaporizer, but that doesn't mean all pipes must be customized!

Here's the context anyway. A person has the option to exploit limitations like a radar to seek aspects which generally draw little or no attention, i chose that scenario while individuals with no issues would see nothing on their radar and conclude modding isn't even necessary in the first place...

The picture below includes everything i need to vape in my veranda:

70zxuw.jpg

The strong aroma/taste gum is to interrupt allergy-type reactions acquired during this ~15 months experiment, because of repeated over-exposition since if i hadn't abused i'd still be searching for my answers a couple years ahead...

The water cup is another necessity revealed by what i tagged the "1-Sip-1-Toke" ritual.

A blue jet flame is best for pre-heating (since my modding calls for it) while compatibility with yellow flames is maintained.

My prefered configuration is shown below:

2cib9j8.jpg

Finally, if by any hasard the reader comes to experience a discomfort similar to mine then maybe it could help to start with a somewhat less involving remedy which anyone is free to evaluate for themselves since it's easy enough to replicate:

i2vy2w.jpg

Drop a loose/floating heat-dispersive screen on the vegetal matter and observe what happens.

So please just remember that's only meant as an eye opener and the rest belongs to future readers... In any case i consider my part is done.

Egzoset- Your "preferred configuration" is very similar to the bronze sherlock. I had my eye on the VG bronze piece for some time. I'm not sure if i can justify paying $90 for it. Does your retrofitted counfiguration hit better than the VG classic or is your design simply aesthetic? If your configuation hits much better, I will assume the VG bronze sherlock does also. I don't want to get the VG Bronze Shelock if it simply looks nicer than the classic.

Euh... Obviously you need to take a better look!!

Now lets zoom in...

Hummm... What do you see?...

...or more precicely what did you fail to notice at 1st glance?!...

I'm not sure if i can justify paying $90 for it.

Well i don't understand i guess. There are multiple evident differences when i compare my modding to a genuine VaporGenie Bronze Sherlock VG Vaporizer - not to mention i never even touched one, in case i didn't mention!...

106.gif

So, how did you go from point A to point B to point C, in a manner of speaking??

If your configuration hits much better, I will assume the VG bronze sherlock does also. I don't want to get the VG Bronze Shelock if it simply looks nicer than the classic.

IMHO you need to ask yourself about the convective, conductive and radiative heat components in a VG Bronze Sherlock because if you feel curious about my modding and that made you like the bronze model then i'd simply advise this may call for more focussed reading... Because, you see, although i never held VG's bronze pipe in my hands i can foresee... Ha! Ha! ...that mapple wood and bronze have radically different thermal properties.

:2c:

In other words, generally speaking i like it too but i realize it would require some impossible rework if someday i must "upgrade" my modded Classic VG with a bronze base: mine works best when pre-heated, in case you missed such a determining detail too... Now, can you imagine yourelf "pre-heating" a bronze until the bowl reaches its sweet spot?!... It may prove being a significant change of perspective to consider function before appearance in such particular example i'm afraid, which implies the modding would require some serious bowl revision as it turns out that heat accumulates inside the main internal assembly of my sphere and this heat currently flows towards my Classic bowl (they connect directly!)...

So far i figure way too much heat would sink into this massive bronze body, defeating the purpose of that specific upgrade...

:worms:

As a result it seems there are some misconceptions remaining to be cleared as these considerations may happen to be aspects which i suspect could make quite a significant difference, provided you could experience both my pipe and theirs, of course. Too bad i don't have anything to sell as you only have the bronze option left - which i don't really view as a bad thing actually.

In any case i see very little need for justifications considering this is a relatively affordable purchase, so why not simply buy it if you like it!

Face it, it's not garanteed everyone finds the ultimate match without having to try again anyway.

Why not vote in favor of more convection if you've got the lungs? Go for it!! Its esthetics alone may justify an expense and this feature alone will never fade.

I see, with your modifications, that you were able to make the vapor pathway longer; thus, you get cooler smoother hits. I see that your stem is flexible or glass; thus, giving you a bird's eye view of the bowl making the heat application easier.

What I don't have a clue about is the different properties of the wood or metal and how it effects your vaporizing experience. Does the different types of wood and metal serve a practical purpose (I understand the difference between the SS bat and the alum. bat as it pertains to heat) or do you simply like the way one looks over another.

I have a classic and a coil, and I'm always looking for a better mouse trap: I'm simply asking, are your modifications simply for looks.

I was going to get the bronze piece, but I got an NO2 instead. Next holiday I may get the Sherlock. Just wanted to know if you had one or something “like” it and if it was that much different than the classic.
