Sorry, to be clear - is the pen you are talking about the Ceramic donut cart? Or something else?

I was comparing the Omicron Lite with Ti Kiss cart to the Divine tribe pen with Steel coil/ceramic cart.

I would be willing to try the donut cart. the steel/ceramic was less than impressive. had that gross burnt metallic taste after about a week of use.

Can we have some information on the quality of ceramic used? Do you have any details from the manufacturer with regard to the grade and makeup of the ceramic? Better still, do you have independent analyses of a representative sample of the ceramic you use?

Your ceramic donut in particular looks promising for concentrates - however, many of us vape for health purposes. This is not predominately an ecig forum, many of us do not want to use products which may produce harmful vapor in the airpath due to inappropriate use of materials. As such, the material that your wires/coils/heaters/wicks are made of should be fully disclosed in as much detail as you can find.

I look forward to learning more about your product, the ceramic donut could become very popular around these parts once we are satisfied that this information has been delivered in good faith and the understanding that you have done your due diligence to ensure accurate and detailed description of your products.

You will receive scrutiny here more than most other sites, however, you will also find there are plenty of good people around here who will provide a huge, active community around your business. It is certainly worth finding out these details if you haven't already. Don't worry, as someone who will be entering the vape market soon enough myself - I wouldn't have known that these questions were so important to answer myself til I came to FC!

Also, welcome! :)

had a busy weekend i have my work cut out for me and will get back to you all as soon as i get all the

information from my vendor.
does anyone have experience with grade 2 Ti coils on a smooth ceramic rod. It is not a problem for me to make that. also does anyone know the difference between smooth ceramic and porous ceramic?
you can taste the difference. i am sure no one will want to use these considering they have nichrome but either way i will get grade 2 titanium with either rod on all my atomizers this week. and get as much info on the ceramic donut atomizer that is coming in tomorrow as well.

no lab tests have been done on anything of mine as of yet. can you recomend one?

you can taste the difference.

are you saying that solid ceramic tastes better than porous or are you asking?

i remember seeing those "vapin donuts" when they came out for ecigs. i always questioned how well it would work for concentrates, but mainly because i feel like most of the oil would fall off the element. this design however keeps the oil on the donut because of the walls. the whole in the middle... could it be filled somehow leaving only the top of the donut exposed perhaps? can the donuts be swapped out easily?

looking forward to seeing more!

sorry for the double tag

the ceramic is made from

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaolin
pretty basic info on the base material of ceramic. Are they glazed? Are there any certifications on the quality of base/glaze?

Lead, of course, would be a main concern, but any other impurities that could off-gas or be inhaled in the case of cracks, breaks, chips, etc., are issues. I believe that the porous ceramic wicks would need some sort of tighter control, as if it's low quality, it will be shedding powdered ceramic continuously, into the concentrates/at high heat.

i was told that "96 alumina is the ceramic ingredients" and that there is no lead

this link here describes everything about the donut ceramic

I had the lucky chance of being able to grab one of the donut attys before I leave to EDC LV! Going to post a review after. It taste amazing. The hits are smooth. I don't even know where to begin. Still gonna weigh out pros and cons. But definitely more pros than cons! Get one from him before he runs out! Going to post pics from my phone when I go on break.

Can we request a normal stainless drip tip instead of the swivel tip?

I have absolutely NO interest in breathing in the off-gassing from nichrome, nor from some undefined "titanium"...

Surgical stainless steel, or certified grade 2 Ti only. Sorry. Next?

I get the attitude and all, but fear you're in for disappointment. Stainless steels are basically Nichrome diluted down with Iron. Look it up if you want, but SS has a lot of Chrome (like 10%) and some Nickle (say 5%?) at a minimum. The most common 'series 300' stainless steels are about twice that (18/8 being a biggie).

Nichrome is typically 80% or so Nickle, the remainder Chrome. So if the goal is to avoid either hot Nickle or hot Chrome at all costs, SS is probably not an option.

Edit:
As long as we're on the subject of materials, perhaps a brief rant on ceramics might contribute?

Ceramics, as materials, cover a LOT of ground. For our purposes we can limit it to metal oxides, Aluminum, Silicon and Oxygen for the most part. In practice, small particles ('grains' if you will?) are forced together and sintered together. That is they are heated to less than the melting point, but high enough so bonds are formed linking the bits together. Glazing is simply more of the same sort of stuff, with no crystal structure (amorphous) with a lower melting point, sort of like a coat of paint.

Pores in unglazed ceramics are controlled by the materials going in and can be increase on purpose by several techniques at the expense of strength. Obviously, glazing seals the surface, making it essentially glass.

Kaolin is a traditional clay for ceramic use. Naturally found in river banks and such in varying grades ('other stuff') but basically Aluminum and Silicon oxide. The key property giving element being the Aluminum part, leading to the ultimate (synthetic) in the class, Alumina (Al2O3). Same basic thing as Ruby and Sapphire, FWIW.

IMO Kaolin is an excellent ceramic choice (some might argue Alumina is superior, not to mention Zirconia based ones.....), and since it was 'fired' at a much higher temperature than we will ever use I think it's pretty safe those terms (no outgassing). Same as lead can show up in glass (by intent.....), it can show up in glazes (either by intent or accident). Clear glazes, like we'd be using most likely, are highly unlikely to do so since most of the lead is coloring.

While it should be checked of course, I think, in general Kaolin and glazing are safe ways to go.

Fun project, IMO shows great promise, be fun to watch. Best wishes to those involved.

Is the ceramic atomizer held together with magnets or is it threaded?

BTW these look great and I can't wait to order one. I just need some more money so I can order my new mod then this. Just getting back on my feet from a new move and unexpected trip back to home state.

so is the donut replaceable?

can it be removed, torched, and reinstalled?
not this model but talk is underway to get something that is less wasteful. let's hope this donut lasts for a while my prototype has been going strong for a month now. it cleans itself back to original ceramic when held upside down allowing old wax to drip out.. for about 30 seconds of heat from itself at 4.2v on the x6 battery it will become completely clean . It's amazing

it is held in place by the posts that give it current

The ceramic Donut heats on both sides and completely vapes everything under it that sits in the ceramic cup.

thanks for the reply, but i think @Blunter was asking how the top of the atty attaches to the bottom. does the top thread or snap on? or is there a magnet holding them together?

thanks!

Disapointment!
I was unable to finalize my order since shipping cost to France are more expensive than the 5 USD that you told me here, I expect you will got better shipping price for all the countries soon...

ps: Divine tribe offer me 17.5usd of shipping cost for 1 atty but I prefer to wait since he told me to get better prices soon

  • one of my customer's feedback on batteries!!!
I managed to achieve success with my MVP v2, by setting the voltage to 5 and the wattage to 11, after restarting the device to reset the short circuit protection. All in all, this is a very impressive atomizer so far,

Thanks, Franz

@divinetribe... i know you dont get your donuts from fat daddy, but would you say your donuts are the same? are they the same size?
they look the same, i am going to find out about getting them with different ohms. i would also like to see a RBA using one and some more types of atomizers in general using this donut.

one thing i did notice is once this thing gets too hot it will no longer give vapor, it needs to be cooled down and then it seems to work. i was using it at 5volts which seemed to be too much heat. i think there is a happy middle ground, too much heat can waste wax from my experience.\
works great at 4.2 for me .
