Using ABV

Yeah I'm sure this has been asked ten thousand times, I googled "what to do with ABV" and only found one thread about it on this site from.. 2009 (http://fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=924) .

I also used the search function on this site for "ABV". Try it yourself. It yeilds nothing.

And since I couldn't find a sticky on ABV.. here's another thread on a beaten horse topic. I have a little over an ounce and a half of various ABV in 2 tins. One is from bowls I had to cut early so it's a lighter brown, and the other is of real dark stuff that has been fully nuked. I'm looking for peoples opinion on the most logical and effective use of said ABV. I know you can cook with it, make oil, revape it.. But for the people who have tried it all.. what do you find is the best? Not easiest or quickest, but yields the best result.

And let's say, hypothetically, you have a seemingly infinite supply of weed... is it even worth saving the ABV? gracious.

Modnote: This is a search for "abv":

I'd bet that cooking with it would "yield the best results". As long as you do it right.

You can tell for yourself if it's worth it to save it, see how a batch of brownies work out...?..

It all depends on how you want to experience it.

Usually, if I want to enjoy it in moderation then I cook with it.
If I want to go to the moon, I make swampwater with a good amount, let it evap to a smaller level and drink it back (mixed with redbull)

Read up on some of the recipes. You have to experiment to see what you like the most.

Ive tried many ways until I settled on swamp water. For others it is cooking and for others it is candy. The issue is to complicated to be so black and white.

Their is no best but their are many options.

Is ABV worth saving? Absolutely. Assuming you have an infinite supply of ABV, I'd try everything and wouldn't just stick to one method. But then I like variety. It's like asking which do you like better Cake or Pie? I like both :)

Alcohol tinctures are nice because you can evaporate it down to control and concentrate your dosage. Unfortunately it can taste like burnt asshairs.

Using oil/butter, you do have to cook but then it tastes a lot better. I like cooking so this is not a big deal to me. I've made from scratch brownies and I've used box mixes. Really, if you can read and follow directions, cooking is not hard. One thing I do though is I cook at 300F just to make sure I don't cook off any of the good stuff that's left. That does mean that I cook longer. If a box says 350F for 30 minutes, I'll do 300F for 45min to an hour.

I used to find the alcohol tinctures were the easiest to mess with because straining was easier since you weren't working with hot oil/butter. But the last time I did an oil method, I didn't heat up the oil. I just let my abv soak in oil for 10 days. I added a tsp of salt and a tablespoon of vinegar to that mixture and I shook it every day. I also didn't bother straining and made some nice potency brownies.

Whichever method you use, its really all about figuring out dosage. As a starting point, I try to consume 1g worth of abv.

So if I cook brownies and I use 15g of ABV, I'll try to cut it so there is 15 brownies. When I test dosages I'll start with one brownie. I'll judge that for next time to see if I need to eat a half a brownie or if I should double up.

Or for alcohol, if I used 15g of ABV and I used 1 shot of everclear (about 30 ml) I'll use 2 ml of tincture. Or I can evaporate the everclear down by half and just use 1ml.

One more thing, I always consume on an empty stomach for most potent results and I don't vape until things have kicked in, if I'm testing dosages.

this past week, i water-cured a bunch of ABV. Some of it I dried out and made (dark)BHO. The rest of the washed ABV was simmered in milk and made into chocolate milk.

the dark oil has a bit of a dirty after taste, but works. The milk was split between 6 people, and everyone other me said it was too strong. (bunch of lightweights)

After seeing and looking around I realized that there are many things one can do with some ABV.

3 Days ago I made some brownies with I'd say 20g of ABV, and they get me a bit high but they did put me to sleep very efficiently. I also started thinking about making a tincture or the massage oil recipe I saw on here or a cream as I must have about a 100g of ABV in my drawer waiting to be used

Anyways, all this got me curious as to what you guys do with your ABV. :hmm:
Also if you can include some details, obviously not the whole recipe, but the solvent used could be useful to some who decide to partake after seeing your Pictures *;) hint*.

I guess we'll see what's more popular or perhaps more useful. It may also be dependant on the person's illness. This is going to be interesting, unless everyone throws it in the trash

Oils, I only make oils with AVB. If you do not combust any of your load when vaping it, you AVB should be mid brown at darkest with no black bits, you can winterize the AVB and ISO and make a very decent tasting, dabbable oil that gets you high and is great for getting to sleep. :)

You could make all kinds of great edibles/sublinguals/tinctures/more with some creativity :)

Mix ABV in with peanut or almond butter with high fat content. Heat up for 2 min in microwave, you can add chocolate chips. Then mix in with ice cream and milk for a milkshake. Try different amounts of ABV to get it right. Be careful it is easy to over do it. People make the mistake to think that ABV isn't that strong. It does need to be medium in color and have a few golden flakes.

Start out with a small amount. Don't try this if you are a beginner to cannabis very hard to get the amount correct. If you have an empty stomach the edible will be stronger.

My face is melting...
I usually use it with olive oil. I find that the taste is amenable with anything that's savory. It get used with eggs a lot with me. In my experience, if it's sauteed first the onset will be much quicker.

It tastes remarkably good with ice cream too...at least to my palate.

Like CarolKing mentions, proceed with caution. It can really mess you up and like any other edible, the effects last for hours. I have a fairly robust tolerance and the ABV that I'm left with is usually effective in a tablespoon dose or less.

I have tried solvent extracts, tinctures and oils too, but it's not worth the effort IMO when it's so effective as is.

If you do cook with it, be aware that it kind of stinks the kitchen up a bit.

What does your process for extracting AVB look like? I know how successful you have been with your ISO runs, is this pretty similar? I tried to ISO some AVB in the past but wasn't too happy with the result. Might have soaked too long though.

I soak my ABV in coconut oil for a couple of days at room temperature then refrigerate. Once it has solidified it then goes into capsules then back into the fridge until needed.

The ABV is definately worth keeping! Once a week I cook with the ABV I accumulated, and it is the highlight of my week. I would go so far as to say, the ABV is my favorite part of vaping(besides health benefits).

I have a sealed cookie jar to collect duff. I collected from Jan - June and made first batch of butter. (Magicbutter2). Butter is dark. Tried two peanut butter cookies yesterday and just got back:love:

It is cool to get a second bite at the apple and you never have to worry about extraction when vaping cuz it just makes duff better.

I was planning on trying cooking with it but after making QWISO and it turning out better then expected I have just been doing that. Sure I'm gonna try cooking with it sooner or later

Probably someone said but.. still.. Do a 5-10 minute soak in room temp ethanol/iso with room temp herb... then strain and evaporate.. scrape the black goo and put in a spoon like heroin junkies do.. add olive oil just a bit.. 1:1 or 1:2 and put it on the warm stove(better,if not burning hot).. or over a candle light looool. SOON u will see the oil dissolving into the olive oil .. u can stir with a tooth pick.. dillute further if needed and dose with a dropper.. What i do.. is just put some cocoa/sesami butter mix on a cookie and drop few drops.. and stir.. It gets you twice as stoned as if you cook directly herb into olive oil :).
ABV for sure worth saving.. cause it is already decarbed and u don't sacrifice good herb in the oven.. + get's you way more stoned..for the $ (cause it cost nothing) Try combining it with the reclaim from your glass.. makes a killer cocktail ..

I've tried a few things and this was one of them. Do you have a technique for rapidly filling capsules?
I was using a sort of chop stick and it was quite a grind.

I love using my ABV, but found that I must use MUCH larger amounts than many of you are reporting in order to get great results. I'm talking about 4oz ABV per 12-18 mini brownies. I have used less with moderate success, but everyone loves these stronger ones. Like taking a pain pill. (I vape the hell out of my material though). SO basically I've found that somewhere around a quarter per dose of ABV is best, but I have a high tolerance and so do my friends.

I used 1/2 cup ground up with 5 people and it was too much divided out into peanut butter milkshakes. If your ABV is too dark it won't be very potent. I had I cup before I ground it up with my coffee grinder.

There are so many variables when eating edibles. Everyone is different, also depending if you have an empty stomach. That's why with edibles just start with a little bit, after 1 1/2 or 2 hours eat some more if you don't feel anything. You can eat more, but you can't go back once it starts to kick in. It sometimes takes a long time for all of the cannabis to leave the body. In my case once it was over 24 hours and I still felt medicated, being too medicated is an awful feeling. Sometimes it's best just to sleep it off. ABV can be very potent.

I only do a dozen at a time so its low tech. I use a small flat blade to pack the ABV into ooo caps.
Forgot to add that I also mix a bit of soy lecithen into the ABV mix.

I don't weight it, but i go between a half and a full mason jar that'll hold an ounce-ish of flowers for a batch of brownies. I need them strong, but I know people who are good with one brownie or even a half out of that.

Lately though I've been making bho from the abv and it's been coming out surprisingly well, I still wonder if i should save what's left after the bho run.

How do you use abv to make brownies/cookies?

Do you just throw it in the mix, or make butter with it and then use the butter to make them?

Thanks!
