Has Colorado THC Potency Become Too High?

I think vaporization is THE solution for the true lightweight/newbie. Like we have discussed here there are just too many factors foe edibles, One guy on here said he wouldn't feel safe to drive after 100mg while a few of us can easily take 400-600mg. Throw in the deliciousness factor and you have the potential for too high a dosing. I have given friends cookies I have made that did not do shit to me while one friend took one small bite of one and was puking and hallucinating because of it. Small puffs from an easily bought disposable vape or one of the many other vape options would be great for newbies/lightweights because of the simple dosing and immediate onset. Leave the edibles to experienced people and/or those with high tolerance. There are vape options for every person these days so that would be my advice and my :2c:

Agreed on all counts!

A bar the size of your hand should not contain 2g of hash for sale to recreational consumers :o

Oh! I ate an entire 2g hash brownie once.

Once.

I had a quad dose cheeba chew last summer when I was in Colorado. I found it to be pretty mild. I guess that's not surprising considering I've smoked/vaped every day for more than 20 years. Going to Colorado again in August. I'd like to try something really potent. Any suggestions?

I think you just have to find the right dispensary. I don't have the link on hand but I remember someone got a ton of edibles from CO and tested them and only a select few actually had as much THC as they claimed. Nothing I've had in the few months I've been In CO has really done anything for me except the Cannabutter I made myself.

Attending the Secret Cup by any chance? Aug 29th-30th.

As far as potent edibles, by now I think they are all required to have pretty accurate numbers in regards to the advertized THC content. So unlike months ago when The Denver Post had a bunch of edibles tested, and most fell below the advertized THC content, now they should all be very close to the 100mg THC that is advertized.

The best way to get a potent edible is to either be a red card holder, or know someone who is, so that they can buy you edibles above the recreational 100mg THC limit.

Look for something called Whammy Bars. Half of their 15-dose edible is a brain-burner for me (but you might want a whole one). Rumor has it they have a 25-dose bar but I haven't seen that in person.

I find the most major drawback with edibles is that they TASTE SO GOOD. When I was a kid, I knew I was getting medicine because castor oil and robitussin tasted like medicine should... NASTY!

Edit: I believe all edibles should be pre-packaged with other tasty snacks. A ten-dose or higher canna-bar should come with pretzels or popcorn. Without these snakcs, it's easy to get caught in a never-ending spiral of edibles giving the munchies and trying to curb the hunger with more edibles. It's a losing game, I know.

Simple: require labels with accurate THC content in mg...and a stern warning from the budtender about very potent products...

If you take too much, your fault. this is like getting burned with coffee from McD's and suing. It's f*cking stupid and pissing me off that people are trying to paint cannabis in a bad light because SOME people are overdoing it with edibles and oil.

Quite true, but also consider this: I've been a stoner for more than 20 years and the # of mg of THC in a edible doesn't tell me much except for the relative strength of one edible compared to another. If I'm not sure how a certain amount of THC measured in milligrams will affect me, how can we expect the general public to know? IMO, listing the mg of THC in an edible is not enough info. For example: I've been indulging in Cannabis every day for more than 20 years. How many mg of THC in an edible would be sufficient for me? There's really no way for me to know except by trial and error.

If people are silly enough to eat nothing but empty carbs and don't exercise, they will certainly be at a greater risk of getting diabetes. Is this what freedom has come to, the freedom not to be responsible for our own actions? Should we have the freedom to harm ourselves, even if the result burdens society? Perhaps we should have to sign a waiver when we buy a fucking twinkie.

What do you suggest be done? Everything effects everyone differently And from where I'm sitting trial and error combined with experience looks like the best option. When a doctor prescribes you painkillers it's not like he knows exactly how much you should take for the perfect effect, he will most likely start you on an extremely low dosage and have you work your way up until it works.

It seems (from my own and friend's experiences) to me that unless you've already got down exactly how to use edibles perfectly and the circumstances just happen to be perfect they are the least accurate and least effective way to ingest your medicine.

I'm no expert and couldn't begin to tell you how accurate dosing is in edibles but from this: "least effective way to ingest your medicine." I'd say you've never had a potent edible.

And I do mean potent.

I had this brownie of unknown dosage and it knocked me on my ass. I can still remember walking back from my dealer's house when I was 18 scarfing that thing down wondering when it would set in and then getting home, sitting down and talking for less than an hour and then feeling the onset.

I was stupid high. Very giggly and almost delirious but in no way in danger of harming myself.

Years later I've tried the free edibles that dispensary's give to FTPs and they are very weak. I haven't made it a point to buy another edible of that strength. I like being in full control and vaping/smoking weed does that for me. Eating a strong edible leaves me a wreck. Walk and talk on edibles? Sure. Just expect a half second delay or something. lol.

On another note, I've still got this Jolly Stoner. Double Strength (originally 175 mg) That I got as part of a FTP deal a week or so ago. Tolerance should be down in a few days so I'll give it a try.

I do think edibles are meant for when you have nothing to do though. You should give them another try.

Edit: I missed your qualifier, which is the majority of your post and focused too much on your closing statement. My bad.

Trial and error. Someone who has never had a drink before may say the same about the ABV markings on alcohol. Of course most people learn how to use that as a good guide to judge how strong a drink is going to be.

Now as to the specific effects due to different compounds... that's a different story.

Potent doesn't necessarily mean effective. When you're taking something medicinally you don't want to have to guess what the effects will be.

This is probably going to sound sacrilegious to you guys but aside from couch lock (lots of pain reduction) vs clear head high (let's go outside and do something!) for indicas and sativas I've not noticed a difference in the weed I've smoked.

I started at mid 17 (23 next month) illegally for back pain since I had an accident with a falling tv at 13 and my back always hurt, then got my medical card.

And for all that someone claims that this strain does x thing and y strain does another I've found that that bears little relevance and the real question is only sativa or indica? I prefer sativas.

That's why I'm now excited to try those new THCV strains.

Don't get me wrong, I know about CBD and Rick Simpson Oil for cancer and inhibiting the effects of brain diseases (seizures) but what I'm talking about is smoking the weed itself and how some claim they are for insomnia, pain, stimulating imagination, etc. I take it this is what you are referring to when you mean medicating.

I've found what it states makes no difference to me when smoking. I've kinda just ignored those descriptions after a while. I'll either use an indica for pain reduction and a tired feeling will set in, or a sativa and pain reduction still occurs but I'm clear headed.

Which I thought was explained with the CBD content of the plants. Again just a question of sativa or indica since they all contain CBD but indica plants have higher CBD percents.

Also looking my post over I think that the listed effects of weed are just a matter of how strong a sativa or indica it is.

All indicas make me sleepy to some degree.

All sativas stimulate my imagination to some degree.

Just my 2 cents and why I think the type of medication comment really just means potency.

The vapewithfire channeling is strong with this one.

Edit: No really. I just read two of your posts and I think there were grammar errors.

I wasn't referring to the different effects I was referring to the fact that unless your metabolism never changes and you eat at the exact same time ever day, you are not going to be hit as hard sometimes as others with the same dosage of THC in an edible, making them in my opinion an extremely unreliable form of medication.

Also if you can't tell the differences in different strains (at least the ones that are extremely different) you may want to start getting a bigger variety of weed or maybe better quality. While everyone is different and marijuana effects everyone differently, I refuse to believe you couldn't tell at least some difference in the effects between say the lemon haze I had last week and the golden goat I have now (both sativa, totally different effects.) The lemon skunk is an extremely clear headed high. I could vape a couple bowls and be fine, but the golden goat makes my mind race and makes me almost paranoid. This has nothing to do with my original point but I'm just curious as to why you'd think it's all the same.

My experience wasn't the same. The effect is pretty standard and it boils down to Indica or Sativa for me.

That which you're describing, the racing paranoia, only occurred for me when I first started smoking. It was like I didn't know how to control my high.

I haven't felt that in years. I'd completely forgotten about that.

Bill Maher Advises Maureen Dowd On How To Handle Pot (VIDEO)

Pot-smoking comedian Bill Maher offered some unsolicited advice to Maureen Dowd after the New York Times columnist recently ate a candy bar laced with marijuana and freaked out.

"If you've never had pot, don't eat it the first time," he said. "Oh God, it's so much more intense when you eat it. It would be like losing your virginity to Ron Jeremy."

He added: "I personally don't eat it because it makes me paranoid. Nothing ruins a party like people who are paranoid and delusional. Just ask the Republicans."

Watch his full segment Friday night on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher."

I couldn't download the video. Bummer.

EDIT: You tried grokit. Thanks anyway.

Bill Maher wouldn't have the control like he has now, if he was on CBS. He wouldn't be able to say curse words. For me he's up there with comedian George Carlin, who I will always miss. Wanted to see him in person, but didn't happen.
