Herb Grinders

Pretty much. I haven't been vaping much flower at all due to getting into oils but I think this would be nice for using directly with my wand. The nice bowl shape of the bottom would make it easy to vacuum up the ground flower. For me though it's a bit too hard to load.

About the sides gumming up - how much are you loading? More than .5?

Yeah I'd say when I loaded it and it gummed I put in about a gram, was rolling a blunt.

When I say male side of a grinder I'm talking the smaller diameter lip that slides into the larger diameter lip not the center post. To avoid the center post just load your nugz to the sides instead of in the center.

I think I'll be picking up an scs 3 pc for my living room grinder in the near future.

Ah I see. Yeah the center post can be avoided by loading to the sides but it was harder for me with the smaller size of the 3 piece. Still like it overall, and currently am having a spout of hand pain. I'll probably really like it when I am all healed up :)

Yah I'm not liking the sound of this 'inverted' cover. I'm thinking I might need to go for the 4 piece and take out the screen.

I don't get it, what's inverted?

These look the same to me, until you get to the 3rd/bottom piece.

I see the difference... but what I dont see is how this matters? Wouldnt you get herb caught between the outer lip regardless of which side is male/female?

It took me a while to think about it. I literally flipped my SC upside down inside up to imagine it.

I theorized that the top cover being male and the 2nd piece being the female, whenever you lift the cover, all the material falls to the sides on the female end. Thus when you place the male cover back on to grind, it'll touch the sides on the female end where the material fell and gunk up faster.

@421 just confirmed my fears and some others on the last page echoed my worries too.

I tried to describe it as comprehensibly as possible but I think the best way to understand is to just compare a scs to a SC.

Plus the sides of the bottom piece of the sc act like walls keeping the bud contained in the grinding area, away from where the rims contact. I use my 2 piece scs upside down to keep the rims clean.

Yup, I don't understand this design choice and the more I think about it the less I think the SCS is the perfect grinder. That's too bad because 3 pieces with a round bottom sounded great...

I believe the 4 & 3-piece SCS grinders are designed to shred upside down until you reach the consistency you're looking for, then flip to grind into the chamber. Doesn't sound fun if you have anything left over in the chamber(s), but it's great for getting a more consistent and fine shred from a 3 or 4-piece. Using it this way should also help keep the rims clean... they work much better when they are clean.

Personally, I'd rather use a 2-piece and avoid the extra hassle.

Sounds more like a design flaw IMO. But I wonder if that plays into the superior grind and ease of grind scs has compared to other grinders.

Unfortunately, like you said, having to flip a 3 or 4 piece upside down defeats the point for me. I guess I'll stick with my sc for now. I was so geeked out about the 3 piece when I first saw it too sigh.

Dont know what all this talk is about. I have a 4 piece SCS that is abotu 2.2" (smaller ones but not the micro) and I always grind it normally without flipping it. I see what you guys are talking about but I have never had a problem with gumming up

Not a design flaw. It's just better to load the section that doesn't have the outer wall, to maintain easier turning longer. On any 2 piece, as far as I'm concerned, the bottom section is the one with the smaller inner diameter, and that's the part you should load. As for superior grind and ease of grind, their tooth design is matched for # of grinding edges by a couple of other (cheaper) brands and my 2 piece mini SCS is harder to turn than any other brand I've used when dealing with sticky/moist herb. It really needs a 'grip' cut into both sections instead of just one. I like the grinder but it's not always my 1st choice.

The 3 piece scs is the one I would have got if it existed 1 year ago. I have the 4 piece not to have to tap my grinder onto a plate or something, but I dont like any kief separation from my herb. I still separate some onto the metal screen and onto the fine kief collection box. The scs screen is one of the finest if not the finest grade. The big thing about 3-4 piece, for me, is scooping the herb from grinder directly to jyarz and thats worth every extra pennies.

My take on the outer rims. They sometimes get gunked, and my scs is harder to twist. I use my nails for the male part and wooden matches for inside. I make a point to put buds away from the outer edges and feel I dont have to pick gummed thc out oftently. I only iso cleaned it once because I grinded herbs with mildew in it +-9 months after I bought it. I was sadly surprised to notice a little teeth edges paint chiping, but I did overloaded it a few times and forced grinded. Might be coming from there.

Overall I love my scs. I cannot compare it to others, but I dont feel like getting another grinder.

Except that perfect 3 piece keep all the kief with herb scs ...

Clear reason for this... is that if you load the top (non-outer wall) section, then the other half, when inserted "crimps" and does not grind any herb along inside walls of the top side that was loaded.

That's kind of what I meant. Keep the herb in the 'grinding area'. As for bottom or top, that's not very clear at all with the 2 pc. SCS. It's easy to assume that the half with the 'grip' is the top, but the name is on both sides and the section you're supposed to load (smaller inner diameter) is the bottom on every other brand I've seen. Speaking of grip, IMO it was a big mistake to only cut a grip on one section of the 2 piece, and they're not the only brand to fail there. There are times when you need a rough surface on both sections for ease of turning. MixnBall (unfortunately no longer available) remains my favorite 2 pc. design, by a large margin, due to the excellent anodizing and a great gripping surface on both sections (and no o-ring to worry about down the road). The MnB tooth design is also better than the standard diamond shape, found on the Space Case, but not as blocky/squared off as the SCS shape.

I just saw this one on Amazon. I can also get free 2 day Prime shipping, so I can have it by next Wednesday too. I checked Planet Vape, but with shipping, it was almost $45.00 for a large 2 piece with shipping. This seems like a better buy to me. Thoughts? It's actually the same price as Planet Vape, minus the shipping.

Large 4 piece for $10.00 more?
