My theory is if someone can develop my cell phone to have more power then the space shuttle computer someone out there can surely develop a dry herb pen. Steve Jobs of vaporizers!?! Where art thou' ???
Perhaps we are in the second generation iPod phase of things, or whatever you call the one with the four circle buttons. Actually maybe we're past that into the color, click-wheel phase of things and the grasshopper is like the first nano. Anyway, it should continue to progress.

Yeah....not sure I would put any product made by Apple near my face, even if its a .001 percent chance it will explode. I would trust these 20 year old guys before anyone involved with Apple.

Strange comment. I'm not implying Apple should make vapes... just implying surely someone will come out with an aesthetically pleasing and easy/functional one. Some people said that about the Pax... but meh.

The challenge is packaging enough energy to last a useful length of time in a pen form factor. This requires both an energy source and insulation that is a step beyond what is generally available today. That's why many are skeptical that the Grasshopper can deliver what has been promised.

yeah that's where we hope the "rocket science" part of their backgrounds comes in! ;)

So we can turn it into a rocket ship and fly away from earth, maybe to earth 2.0, where everything is wonderful!

But I really hope it does, I thought that some vapes already had 2-3 hour battery life?

Some do, but not in package that can fit into a pen form factor. Typically they use at least one and often two Li-ion batteries, mostly 18650s.

Their Reddit page is saying August-September release now.

Hopefully they are available by Christmas! Seems like the perfect stocking stuffer. Maybe with a Green Shark grinder... and a 1/4 of Grapefruit.

Just to clarify, that subreddit is not affiliated with the GH team. It's as if one of us made a thread for GH, but on reddit instead.

That information was also given in the latest update.

I know it's not directly affiliated but that information was from people who said they received an email from the team. The GH team doesn't seem to post too many updates so that's usually where I find remarks.

Here’s an update for you from the ‘Grasshopper Vaporizer’ team:

1 new Announcement:

Hey Everyone,

The Grasshopper Project has been moving along steadily for the last 15 days. We’re very nearly done with the last of the engineering work on the Hopper, so it’s down to manufacturing, testing and assembly. We’re waiting on the next batch of production parts to come in, and we’ll post pictures of those as soon as they’re received.

We’ve spent some time every month in a back-and-forth exchange with our battery manufacturer. Every time we’ve received a battery, we’ve put it through extensive testing to verify it’s capacity, discharge rate and lifespan. Though we’ve had serviceable batteries for months it’s been a battle to get what we exactly wanted. We’ve just completed initial tests on what is likely to be the Grasshopper’s final battery.

Due to it’s small size and high discharge rate, it was a challenge for the manufacturer to produce the cell to our specifications. We kept insisting that they make it better, and eventually they did. Have a look at our cycle count chart below. This chart illustrates the loss of battery capacity over a given number of cycles. The Grasshopper is an extremely demanding application for a battery, and we’re happy to get such great results from the stress test.

Finally, we’re happy to announce the addition of a new member of the team. Dustin was chosen after a number of interviews with some great people. He’ll be working on designing and building the assembly setup, and then working to put together Hoppers with the rest of us. His experience in construction and hands-on engineering directly applies to the next stage of the project, so we think he’s going to be a good fit for the job.

Look for our next update on June 1st!

Cool, already 15 days late with an update. If they are just hiring someone to help "Design" their production line we're looking at many more months of waiting.

Not very Smooth.

EDIT; Maybe the next update will be on June 1st 2015. Only 350ish days away. Not bad, smooth even.

Well I originally called it that this would never make the official release date and would exceed it by about 3-4 months.

Ill go on record saying that will run into a few more issues and it will be delayed until thankgiving/christmas time.

What are you even talking about? They are not late on updates. They promised updates on the 1st and 15th of each month, and they have fulfilled that promise since they made it a few months ago.

This was one of the most encouraging updates they've made so far, I thought. Things seem to be moving forwards, nothing to indicate any particular reason for further delays.

I'm not worried about a 10% drop in battery capacity after 400 cycles-seems acceptable to me.

In the last update as of yesterday(june 15th) they said the next update would be on June 1st, That's what I'm talking about.

Real world usage in this state of the art vape I doubt will be 10% drop in 400 cycles but we'll see. I'm expecting it to drop a lot faster. Only time will tell.

Yeah but it's keepin' you busy and me entertained on some level.

Gotta Love it when someone acts as if your attacking their Mothers Honor when Talkin' about a vaporizer that doesn't exist yet.

So, just trolling cause you are bored?
Thanks for your valuable contribution to the discourse....

The battery thing is kind of interesting, wonder how it's actually handling the proposed 3 hour battery life. I recall the battery was the largest skeptical element of this pen during funding phase.

Excited to hear more updates.
That's what I'm saying, hoping for the best obviously it will benefit all involved but I can't help but be a bit skeptical.. Real world usage is gunna be the test..
