If you change the battery yourself, you void your 10 year warranty. No one has had a Pax for 10 years yet, there may be other things that go wrong down the line. Why don't you just contact Ploom and talk to them, they are very reasonable ;)

As i told before, I got a fake one as a present. No warranty there.

No, it does not.

It doesn't, directly, but if you have a compounding problem with the unit, you can additionally claim that the battery is worse off than before. For example, I have a charge issue where sometimes the unit doesn't recognize it's charged even though it shows green on the stand. It forces me to reset it on the stand and let it take another ~5m to figure itself out that it is, in fact, fully charged. In addition to this, I can barely get two ~25m full sessions out of it (I started being able to get three-and-a-half 20-25 minute sessions when I received the unit a year and a month ago). When I contacted Ploom I mentioned the charge issue and threw in the battery problem too. I was told that, while the battery itself isn't directly covered, they would make sure I have a fresh battery if they repair my unit's charge issue.

To be honest, however, I'm banking on getting a fresh unit. I told them that if they have to replace it can they send a blue one instead (as I have a black one); to which they told me not a problem at all. I send it in tomorrow... let's hope I get a new one!

Edit, to prevent double post:

I bought mine for 200 from a vape store and, apparently, anything under the 250 MSRP is a fake. Mine, like yours, has no telltale signs of being fake. I did, however, had a true-to-product battery. When I contacted Ploom they did say my unit had a valid serial number. I would contact them anyways to see if the serial # is legit. If anything, say you got the thing as a gift from a friend and you have no idea where they bought it or how much they paid for it.

Do you have party mode? What I know all fakes dont have it.
Mine did have a telltale sign of fakenes, 55$ price tag ;)
Even if serial number is legit, it doesnt mean a thing. Main thing is board with cheeps on it. In the midlle you have to have written Pax by Ploom. For me warranty is not an option.

I already successfully opened my Pax with no damage at all, and I believe I can swap battery myself. All I need is couple of dudes who did it before and can advise and reassure me in my actions.

Have been waiting for your bit on this matter but already have this video in my "how to" folder. I know exactly where to buy that gray battery but im wondering if i can fit there battery with bigger mAh. I need someone who already successfully swap his battery and can show some improvements.

You've already indicated:

- Your Pax is a fake
- The battery with the fake is shit.
- The unit is already apart and ready to have a battery replacement done.

Why not simply go buy an appropriate battery for the unit and replace it with one that's not shit? A Panasonic 18650B 3400mAh (NCR18650B) should do the trick (The stock Pax battery is 2600mAh) Get one that's unprotected as the protected one will be too long to fit in the unit and the Pax also uses unprotected batteries, presumably they have the protection built into their own firmware.

Also, more mAh doesn't make the battery physically larger. An 18650 is an 18650. Get one with tabs already spot-welded in place. Search eBay for: Panasonic NCR18650A Li-ion Battery with Tabs and take the first hit (this one is 3100mAh, but reasonably priced and they ship from the USA). You need the tabs pre-spot welded in place so you can solder the connections...unless of course you have an appropriate spot welder for the task.

What do you have to lose? You have a fake Pax that won't hold a charge. You have no warranty to worry about trashing. You also now know at least one reason the fakes suck: they use shit batteries.

Good luck.

Thank you for you post, GraffiX

You are totally right, I got nothing to lose with this project, just gain.
Because im not specialist on batteries I have no idea what this letters around "18650" means. There is hundreds kinds of this batteries around. And info like yours is what im looking for.

So, you are recommending me Panasonic 18650B 3400mAh (NCR18650B), i like this battery. Will try to find with spot-welded bits. Can you please tell me which charger will be the best for this battery 9V/1.3A or 5V/2A

Can you tell me if you successfully swapped battery or your knowledge is from internet?

Edit:
Just found out that Nominal Voltage on NCR18650B is 3.6V shouldn't it be 4.2V for Pax?

I'm simply providing you information. A genuine Panasonic 18650 is a quality LiOn battery that you can count on. If you use the "B" model, you will have a capacity of 3400mAh. if you use the "A" model, you will have a capacity of 3100mAh.

18650 LiOn batteries in the capacity range we're discussing are rated at 3.6v (some list 3.7, but they're the same for all intents and purposes). The Pax uses an 18650 3.6v 2600mAh LiOn.

A 4.2V (or higher) 18650 has a capacity upwards of 4500mAh and larger, so the answer is no, it shouldn't be a 4.2v cell.

You are replacing "like with like", only the capacity is different; the 18650A is 3100mAh, and the 18650B is 3400mAh, both are 3.6v/3.7v (depending on who's writing the spec).

Regarding the charger, again, since you are basically wanting to emulate what Pax does, you will use a 9V/1.3A charger as Ploom provides with the Pax.

I purchase my gear legit, so I have no need to replace the batteries in my Pax, and if the need arises, I have a 10 year warranty that I will fall back on.

I can tell you, however, that if I were in your shoes, I would indeed be proceeding as I've discussed here.

Good luck, and for the sake of the integrity of this thread, I'm going to wrap it up on this topic and wish you well on your "upgrade" of your counterfeit. I get the vibe that further discussing the details of a "how-to" on a counterfeit Pax is not in the spirit of this thread and should probably dissipate at this point.

Take care and good luck brother.

If it were me I would throw that counterfeit in the trash and purchase a genuine as soon as possible! Ploom is a standup company and I have a brandy new Pax in my hands. They paid shipping BOTH ways and even sent me some free goodies for my trouble. It's worth the money to buy the genuine. So nice to have a brand new vape today!!

I would get rid of the fake Pax too. Sell it on craigslist. Be honest about it being a fake though. People will still buy it.

IMO the whole point of getting a Pax over the other vapes is

#1 - It looks cooler than other vapes

#2 - 10 year warranty

#3 - Stealth

Without #2 you basically have a knockoff piece of shit. No offense @ROFL

Hi, I would never buy original Pax or fake one. I use FlowerMate for about 4 months and im extremely happy with the device. I will upgrade my fake PRESENT and use it when FM is on charger.

*1 - Yes, it does looks cool with comparison to others but Pax do not worth 250$ + TAX + shipping ( I can have 6 units of FM for a full price of Pax)

*2 Im from EU, over here Pax warranty doesn't apply.

*3 FM is well stealthy

*4 Why FM over Pax? FM is wining in price and battery

Lets be open minded and offer constructive ideas without trashing my fakie :)

Here's a constructive idea , why don't you start a Fake Pax thread since you clearly think they are not worth the $ and this thread is for the Pax.

I had some issues with my Pax with a repeated temp light issue (despite rigorous cleaning). The other day I took it off the charger and it was blinking red lights 3 times then turning off.

I inquired late last Friday on their website about my issues. This Monday afternoon (today) I received two phone calls and got two follow up emails from separate customer service reps. We decided it is best that I ship my unit to them and they provided a free 1 day expedited shipping label.

Hopefully they can fix these issues or get me a new unit. I really liked the Pax when I first purchased it but it began to have some quirks. That prompt and courteous customer service can't be beat though, definitely glad I ordered it right from the manufacturer. I'll let you folks know how I made out.

Sorry to hear about the trouble, but how about that customer service? Makes me glad I ordered both mine direct from Ploom as well! I haven't had need to contact them for any service, but it's great hearing positive stories about those that unfortunately have had to contact them.

Sounds like you got taken care of in high style and are on your way to having a new (or like new) Pax on the way. And a 1 day expedited shipping label is a nice touch!

Good luck brother, thanks for sharing!

My bad bro.. I wasn't trying to be disrespectful.. If I were you I'd flip it on craigslist. Clearly you aren't a fan of the Pax so get rid of it to someone who will like it more.

Anyway, I'm really impressed with the stories I hear on here about Ploom's customer service.. Sounds like a great company..

You can't beat the warranty of the Pax.

You can do whatever you want with a present, it's yours.

There's been quite enough discussion here about your counterfeit Pax. This is the Pax thread and we do not want to facilitate counterfeits in any way. I offered you the chance to start a thread in Ask FC about replacing the battery in a Pax, but you haven't done that. A thread about counterfeit Pax units already exists. It is moderated and we only allow posts that help people identify and deal with counterfeits. Another thread about a fake Pax will not be permitted. Further posts in this thread about your fake or your battery replacement will be deleted. You can start your thread in Ask FC, but as I warned you already, you are wasting your time.

Mine had 2 different party modes, but I couldn't toggle one over the other with a specific motion technique like some have said is possible; I also did not have Simon mode available, but most started talking about that ~3months after I had my Pax.

Good luck with the battery replacement! I am nowhere near as technologically savvy as yourself.

Edit, for a multiple-reply.

When you removed it from the charger, was the unit's light green (as if ready to go) or orange (still charging)? If it was green and then flashed red 3x and turned off you had the same issue as myself. Putting it back on the charger for it to take 5-15m to reset itself and realize that it was charged did the trick, but it sucked having to make sure to always do this instead of taking it off the charger and walking out the door.

Hopefully our units have the same problem and we get new replacements instead :)
