Arizer Solo

I believe OF said to drain it down to power level 1 (but don't completely drain it till it's dead)

And charge it up to 7 (but don't fully charge it…pull it before the green light stops blinking)

Yup, that's what I do. Only I run it down a session or two more. Until it comes up with no lights showing the first time (you're sure to lose count after that.....), then one more session. That should put you a safe margin from lock out due to deep discharge, not a good thing to be doing.

In charging it shuts itself off at something over 4.1 Volts per cell (one slightly more than the other). Dropping it just a bit (by stopping when the light is still flashing but the step 7 LED is well lit) costs you maybe one session but will double or more the total number of cycles the battery will do before taking the proverbial dive on you. I don't sweat it if I don't catch it, but when I can I do and recommend it since the next charge cycle basically 'doesn't count' in terms of battery wear. A twofer.

My new type I treat basically the same as the old. Charge again when I run out of lights, stop it a bit early if I can. I don't use the 'use while charging' mode since for my usage pattern it makes no sense.

The big thing to avoid, I think, is to habitually leave it plugged in. That guarantees 100% charge all the time, something known to kill the battery even if it's never actually used. In storage. Which is why you get them at about 2/3 charge in the first place.....

In the end it's only a battery, but IMO if you treat it right it should outlast the Solo......or at least give it a good try. 10,000 sessions is not out of the question I think.

Are the batteries that sketchy that all this precaution has to be taken? I would like to use this as a portable. I'm not a heavy user though, so it might not be as much of an issue.

No, they're pretty much state of the art. The same ones you'll find in a new laptop, similar to cell phone types. With most of those same issues. I'm sure you know a cell phone or laptop that really only works plugged in? Now you know the probable reason.

It's a portable vape, best used that way IMO. Having a leash on it is not in the spirit of it, but I still use a PA at the desk sometimes. Sometimes not. Cords are cords.

Just check the battery level each time you power up, when you're out of lights recharge it after the next session. If you stop it a bit early, all the better, but it's no big deal.

In fact, here's an ironic thought: Suppose you miss it and fully charge it not intending to use if for some time (say a few days?). So you're storing it fully charged, not a good thing. I wonder if the 'smart thing' isn't to load up a stem and enjoy a session or two to drop the charge down a bit for storage?????

Works for me.

No, OF is just being overly precautious.
Not necessarily bad to be, but batteries will die out overtime regardless so best
to have some rough idea of how to make your battery last as long as possible.

You're in the drivers seat, it's up to you. You can use the Solo the way it was intended, OF just wants you to know how you can allow your Solo's battery to last as long as possible. The battery can be switched out on the Solo eventually. The thing I like about this vape, it's not a throw away like some units have appeared to be over time.

It's made to be enjoyed and to aide in better health.

Great attitude and plan IMO. Best to try to understand things and think it through.

IMO being cautious doesn't get you honorable mention around here. We got paranoids to match anybody's. Then again as Doctor Johnny Fever so profoundly said, "everyone is out to get you, paranoia is just good thinking.....".

As Spock would say, "live long, and prosper". Enjoy your Solo however suits you best.

Regards.

Thanks for all the help. Now I know burn-offs here are a thing, but is cleaning the stem before first use also necessary? Don't see anything that can be wrong with just using it immediately (I understand the need for burning off residuals for 7 min, however)

Ive realised that it is very important to protect the 4 air holes in the chamber from finely ground herb. I have got to this conclusion after 7 defective solo units (includes mine and my mates) with the same problem. All the solos bought brand new from PUI work for 2-4 months before the LED lights randomly start moving up and down and/or auto shuts off. Sometimes the idle blue light flickers.

Over the last few months I have bought 5-6 batteries as well, as initially was told that it may be battery issue. Let me confirm (in my cases) it isn't, unless all batteries i have bought are defective, highly unlikely. I have swapped around batteries and solos (tried all combos), no luck.

I have opened up the solos, including dismantling the chamber, forcing high pressured air in between the stainless steel bowl and the outer holder (visible once dismantled), this gets the solo working again but only for a limited time till the fine particles get in near the heating element/chamber and we back to square one.

I am just writing this post as i've seen numerous complaints with the same symptoms, so maybe it would help someone. I feel its imperative to either not grind your herb extremely fine or put another screen between the herb and the chamber. Again just my 2 cents

PS - the only thing all the 7 solos have had in common is that they are all M1D2.

Yes I had m1d with same issue. I believe m1c,d,and e are prone to the issue. 2014 models m1t and later fixed the issue I believe. My m1t and m1y from arizer replacement are true hitting champs.

Hey, sometimes my Solo is on idle when I turn it on but lately it is on level one after I turn it on. Is that normal? After the battery level flashes it goes to one. Sometimes it goes to idle. Hmmmmm.

It won't fall in your holes if you do it Hamster Style. I know, it's been implied that I may be obsessive about "Doing the Hamster", but in my opinion, I simply let gravity do the heavy lifting.

All of my opinions are my opinions alone based on what works for me and my own experiences. Your experiences may vary based on your own experience with your Solo.

Officially used my Solo after charging and burn offs and wow is this amazing !! I'm so ripped and I only had half a bowl to test it out. Only gripe is that I got little pieces of bud in my mouth occasionally, maybe should not grind so fine?

When I have good bud, I just put the whole thing in there. Best when dry.
Less particles this way.

This may have been asked before...Has anyone noticed that their Solo gets hotter when you use different stems. My straight stem lets my solo run the coolist, my curved stem makes my solo run a bit hotter, my wood stem makes it run super hot. Both glass stems are original.

Put a 1/2" screen in the stem. I know some others might disagree but I think they should have included it in the box that's how much I like the screen. And I think I'm in the majority on this

I can hear the 'all glass vapor path' guys rounding the torches and sharpening their rakes and pitch forks. I suggest you stay with the inlaws for a while......

I agree, a pinch of screens would be way more welcome than that funny little perfume dish thing. I disagree only slightly in size, I like 5/8 which dome slightly and 'grip the walls' so tend to stay put. I like fine, the dome shape offsets most of that. I also save them until I have several fouled ones then haul out the gear and 'flame' them (heat them to glowing) clean, a quick brush off of the ash and it's back into the 'clean' vial.

Charged it 8 hours last night. Now I got to get through work.. AHH the Agony!!

I salute your discipline......and know the Solo thanks you and is planning to demonstrate that. Make it romantic, bring flowers.......

I currently have 2 Arizer Solo units on hand. A silver M107-80320 that works flawlessly, and heats like a champ. I also bought a 2014 model, a M1E1401207, and it is having some issues heating. I take immaculate care with my Arizer units, such as cleaning, charging and handling of the devices. The 2014 M1E1 model will drop from level 6 all the way to level 3 in one hit, giving very weak draws and never fully utilizing the buds medical potential. The silver M107 will make the thickest vape clouds on level 6 providing dense vapor, enough to choke me out and cough (: Both were tested with a 15 second draw, and the silver dropped only 1 down from level 6 to 5, resuming level six seconds after my hit. Now that thats been put aside, the 2014 model (black) has the ability to charge while the unit is turned on. What component makes this possible, and is there a way to transfer it to the silver addition? would really love if I could use the silver one while charging.

Just received a brand new M1T and my first impression is that this thing is f**king legendary!

The only thing that surprised me was that most people say about 5 is the sweet spot, whereas I like to do a little bit of work at 2, then the bulk of the vaping at 3 before moving upwards gradually, but haven't needed to go above 5.

At first I caned off the tiny bowlful too quickly, but have found starting on low numbers can have you sipping away for longer.

I honestly find this comparable to the silver surfer, but find the surfer allows for bigger hits and maybe lasts a bit longer. But the differential is so small I happily enjoy this new toy at home, in place of the SSV, without feeling I'm getting less value from my herb (as you might with my other portables).

First impression I love this Solo and hope that it lives long and reliably.

Even my girlfriend says she likes it because it is sleek, black, unobtrusive, doesn't smell bad and has an aromatherapy dish! (She doesn't partake anymore, so gets a bit tired of skunk smells - weird I know)

Anyone hesitating to get one of these should get one. I wish I'd found out how good they were sooner, the guy who tipped me off about it is on this board, so a big thanks to him and all others who have advised me. :leaf:

Checking in to say warranty service was very good. 2 days to get Arizer to escalate to M&M Specialties (their USA warranty center) and another 2 days to receive the authorization from M&M. Turnaround was about a week and a half (I am only about 50 miles from M&M so shipping was one day each way). Arizer covered return shipping since I just bought it in December. Received a brand new M1Y1 unit plus a new power supply.
