Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I'll take any version even with air leaks for a fan based bag system :)

How about doing it the other way around? Put the whole Ascent in a baggie in a box or jar with a couple holes in the lid sealing the stem. Then use an aquarium pump to pressurize the bag or jar, blowing vapor out the stem and into the room if you don't have the presence of mind to put a bag on it.......

The vape works on pressure differences, not absolute pressure. You can blow as well as suck.

Even if 50% of the herb is blown out of the device into the ambient air? No thanks, I don't like to waste. Vaping is saving me money, I couldn't fathom letting vapor leech through the entire device, including over the circuitry (ew, imagine how horrible that Ascent would smell after the internals are caked with reclaim)

Look into the vapor-lung, seriously, I believe this is the optimal system for the Ascent

I don't think the Ascent is powerful enough to provide a steady stream of vapor , which is what the fan assist will do . I will agree the Vapor Lung can allow you to manually , regulate the flow of vapor hits . And Maybe collect a bag full ...

Sorry OF missed it :) I tried a non fan method and pressure methods the bags aren't really satisfyingly full. Lotsa work for minimal smoke. I wanted a ... As I was typing this I realized I have no idea what an aquarium pump is. Do like an ms paint picture or something man that impaired people like me can understand :)

It's a fish pump - used to pump air into an aquarium (loud noisy things).

The herbalaire uses an aquarium pump to power their bag filling system - it's produces quick short bursts of air

Yup, them's the ones all right. Only some aren't so loud any more (but you get to pay more for that, of course).

Part of the fun will be the way Ascent works. Once the pump starts and the fun begins the cold air will be slowing it down again. I measured 100 degrees F drops in the load under heavy hitting. Make up heat to counter this is why the glass flowers work so well, they increase the amount of heat that is available and probably more important to us spread it through the load with lots of surface so we can get to it quickly.

A successful bag blower would probably run the pump for a while then shut down for a while to allow the heat to build back up then run again. Once you'd decided what the best timing was you could rig a timer of course. This would happen no matter how you were moving the air of course. If you wanted to get really fancy, how about making a preheater so the air delivered through the grate is already say 330F? Give it a serious convection nature?

Cool. I like it. Since it's conduction, not convection, that should work just fine.

Another fine example of 'outside the box' thinking.

Thanks.

Exactly. Since it's conduction, the direction of airflow doesn't matter. I should have mentioned that I use a screen at the bottom of my oven and anyone trying this might want to do the same. In any case, it works quite well if you don't blow too hard.

Makes perfect sense, even 'obvious', after the fact..... But worthwhile insights are never in the mirror looking back.

I was clearly guilty of being 'mind blocked'. Something I should put more effort into avoiding......

If there are two of you, blowing shotguns works well as a manual forced air system. You can fill up a bag easily if you wish. I don't need a fish pump. I got lungs. No need to reverse the air flow with shot gunning.

About the returned vaporizers. I just got my fifth Ascent. DaVinci said to return the defective unit with the return label they would send me in the package. I got a shipping notification after 5 days that they had sent out when I bought my first Ascent. No shipping notification for my replacement. When I raised hell about no indication of shipment after 5 days, one of the flunkies just sent out a new boxed unit. I told the supervisor that the unit they mailed out was a knee jerk to my irate call and they most likely did not send out the return label. He said the return label would be in the package. It is not. So I have a brand new, never been used broken Ascent along with my two working units. I have also have four 120V chargers, 10 jars and about 10 glass tube sets.

How would you guys compare the high you get from the ascent compared to a bong hit or joint?

It's definitely a different high but I can't really articulate how to describe it

Got time for a quickie?
Got my ascent today, got it charged and burned in. Packed it up to the top of the bowl with fine grind fluffy medication. I put just enough organic cotton at the top with a slight pack.

This was the first time I've ever used a vaporizer for herb, so I didn't know quite what to expect.
All I can say abut that is WTF took so long for me to try it!

Heated it up to 387 f and took around 5 hits with good vapor. Then up to 400 for 5 strong hits. Then went up to the max 430 and got about 4 strong hits until the popcorn taste kicked in and turned it off. Let it cool off and opened it and the cotton was saturated. The ABV was dark brown all the way through.

Someone has mentioned earlier to vape the cotton and I think not putting the cotton back in would be a waste. I just dropped it in and heated it up to 400 F got at least 10 good hits with more vapor than the herb produced. I eventually had to stop, by that point I was totally medicated. When I turned it of and went to pull out the cotton it was still producing vapor.

This was a great first vaping session, overdid it but wanted the full effect from my first bowl.
I vaped at 4:40 and then had a big steak dinner, it's now 8:49, sitting here sipping on a milkshake, and I'm still very high, this is great!

The Ascent I got is perfect, I haven't noticed any of the earlier problems. Think I might have to get another for a backup, I'd hate to be without this strong of a device.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their tips and tricks, it made my first time great.

Pics from my maiden voyage.

Thanks for the pics toad..

Is the cotton used just a cotton ball?
Yes I got them at CVS, boiled them just to make sure they were clean. I originally got them to use with my rebuildable e-cigs but didn't like them for that. They work great in the Ascent and maximizes you vapor production, giving you a second vape session with the cotton alone.

Mod note: The rest of this discussion was moved to Vaping with Cotton.

4 returned......I guess this will not be my last return. Talk about patience.

I think we must have evidence of variations in the colors given to the Carbon Fiber Ascents. I have used several light sources and to my eyes my Carbon Fiber has dark gray side panels. I presume the olive colored panels have a green tint?

For my curiosity, what were the symptoms of your 4 Ascent failures and how long have they lasted before failure. Edit: What series 1Axx or 2Axx, and did you ever open your unit past 90 degrees ?
edit: @KeroZen I rarely if ever opened my units past 90 degrees. All mine were 2A xx series, bought in April or shipped in early May. None of mine have sealing problems. Two with button malfunctions and one with charging receptacle failure.
My first one did not even come on straight out of thee box.The second one lasted a little over a month and quit heating. My third one lasted about three months and quit heating and this last one has lasted 2 months and no problems so far.

So, I made a discovery today regarding the Davinci Ascent and wax. When removing the lid from the glass jar, the vapor production from wax is pretty damn good, and I get stoned reasonably quick. The only downside is that you have to be careful not to tip the device to much, or else you would have wax-/oil-gunk in your stem and all over the bowl.

Have anyone tried this? What are your experiences? Do you have any other tips for vaping wax?

The Ascent is a stealth bomber. Except in confined spaces, it can be used without detection.
The Ascent is the only handheld that can vape for up to 5 people. No need for a huge desktop model at a gathering. The 4400 milliamp battery system gives powerful and responsive heating.
There are many different ways to utilize the Ascent's capabilities that maximize efficiency under all conditions. Thanks to the forum for channeling all this creativity provided by its members.
The return warranty by DaVnci is great. There are no reports of Warrenty replacement denials. You will have a functioning Ascent for at least two years.
I think most would agree that it is important to have a backup for a portable vaping system, as ANY portable vaporizer will have a relatively low reliability. Several here recommend the Solo as a backup.
I must have all the great features described above for my vaporizer so I have a second Ascent as a backup. I am not sure the Solo can replicate the Ascent's function.
I am having twice the fun rigging and maintaining each unit for use . I have a Croc and the Carbon Fiber. The Carbon Fiber is the fav.
I enjoy and look forward to all your posts folks, thanks to all.

Glass004 I agree 100% I'm on day 3 with the Ascent, and already getting my money ready for another.

I'm thinking about getting one customized. Has anyone had a custom ascent that had to be sent in for exchange? I wonder If the exchange would also be custom or would it be a stock version.

While the Solo is an excellent portable vaporizer, it cannot replicate the pocketability or stealthiness of the Ascent, IMO. Flavor-wise they are very similar, and the Solo has a pretty decent battery life. The Solo might conserve herb a little better as well. I would look at them as complementary rather than interchangeable.

My opinion would be to use negative pressure to inflate the bag while using the inflating bag to make the pump slower. It would also bypass the whole path question. Pretty much like an iron Lung type bag.

I haven't looked at what's available though. Maybe someone is actually making that.

And in addition, I bought cotton gun cleaning swabs to use as filters and I also leave one on the very bottom of the bowl, as it makes clean out SO much easier.
