I really expected them to have most of this type of stuff done before the kickstarter. I wonder how much you can "tweak" the designs of stuff like this before mass production, assuming they already had several prototypes before the KS even began.

RE: convection vs. conduction.

I asked a related question on reddit a while back:

This proves there will be some conduction if you don't hold it a certain way or you don't pack it tight enough :( ... It shoulda been a no-brainer to add another screen in between the heating element and the herb...

Just received the update for today. Sad news. Apparently they missed a deadline with some of the parts so the date has been pushed back again. Aug/Sept now :(

If its in contact how does it not burn?

It is of course a shame, but personally it actually only makes me more optimistic for the quality of this vape right out of the gate. Obviously time will tell, but I think it makes it seem like their quality control will be better, and this won't be one of those production portable vaporizers that are really just prototypes. I believe what they promise is technologically possible and still plan to preorder as soon as possible (hopefully we don't have to pay too much more than the lucky backers, but I'm preparing myself for 150ish). As for the longer wait, well at least I've got plenty of other new toys to play with in the meantime

Coming back to this thread to check on its progress is like going to my favorite bar and seeing this on the wall every time:

They had a prototype video so long ago I was under the impression the funding was just to produce the product and get it to shelves. It seems like they still had to go in and actually engineer all the stuff they claimed it would feature. Maybe I'm being naive but that's what the original video seemed to indicate. I'm not angry about it, I'm still floored for this pen and much prefer the company to delay and release an incredible product then rush to market like so many other crappy vape companies; just that the original campaign seemed to allude to a much closer speed to market availability.

Yeah it feels that way to me too.

They were hoping to get it out by February, August is ("only") 6 months away, so the delays while frequent aren't really that bad. I'm not on their email list or anything but on reddit I saw there was some discussion about a "budget" in the email. I'm assuming budget runs out = GH production gets halted, esp. since they just recently moved to Colorado and got the new shop.

June 17th will mark Grasshopper's one year anniversary in the Thread Candidate Section. That's a fucking long time lol...And it looks like they're not even close to bringing the finished product to campaign contributors. I've been patient because I know these guys are new to the game and didn't foresee all the problems and setbacks they've experienced. I hope when everything is said and done it will be an awesome vape, but WTF, it's been a long long time.......

Timeline as I see it.

Made vaporizer
Had an issue renting space in NC due to bogus laws.
Moved to CO, not an easy task, really long move.
Decided to rework the pen design, research better battery/charging equipment.
Ordered parts after figuring out the best way to get those.
Waited on more parts.
Now getting ready to start production.

It should not be to long, maybe a short delay but lets hope not, I think it will at least be out this year.....hopefully haha.

A year is shorter then we think sometimes.

My take on it is that to make 1 (the invention) is,well, what it is. I think that is what they showed us. Do I think they were planning to get funding for 4000 of them? FUCK NO! That will take a while to make them all to their specs and people let me tell you that anything worth while takes time to create, let alone 4000 primo units. Let them be and create for us. That being said, 8 months, is that really that long? :2c:

They showed us a barely-functioning prototype as proof of concept. Then they had to get exactly to tolerance parts approved for the final assembly line, where each individual part has to be perfect and fit together perfectly as well. Because then these will be knocked out in huge quantities, and there will be no more room for adjustment. Once these start rolling off the line, there will be very many made very quickly. Hopefully the final model works as designed, and better than the prototypes we've seen demonstrated.

sorry having a hard believing what i read if the unit uses 30 watts and battery last for 3 hours ?? that would make the battery mah what?

Can I specifically calculate my battery run time?
You can determine your laptops run time when you know how many watts your laptop computer uses and the total power capacity your notebook battery has. Here is how you can calculate this yourself.

Battery capacity can also be measured in Watt-Hours. Watt-Hours are calculated by multiplying Volts x Milliamperes. Here is an example:

14.8 Volts X 4060mAh (4000mAh is equal to 4.06 Amperes).
Is also equivalent to:
14.8 x 4.06 = 60.09 Watt-Hours

Watt-Hours measure the energy which powers one watt for one hour. If your laptop runs at 20 watts, your run time will be: 3.004 hours (60.09 Watt-Hours / 20.0 watts Laptop pc power use)

i just don't see how it could use 30 watts and last for 3 hours anyone here more awake than i?

I slightly remember them explaining this but maybe I was dreaming? Anyone have a link or post explaining it, kinda curios, though doesn't the Ascent last for like 2.5-3 hours? I am gonna ask my engineering friend actually, he backed it also, maybe he can chime in....

Im talking about the impact it would have made on the development of the piece...not how it impacted its buyers...which wouldent be at all...

I see what you are getting at, but there's no reason to assume they've burned through all their $$ yet either.
I spite of my sarcastic post above, I'm not even that upset about the delays, just hope it's worth the wait and $ when it finally ships.
