Is the only difference between the glass core and Hybrid the stainless steel sleeve on the resistor? The rest of the airpath is the same?

I believe so, yes and yes...

Except that the addition of this 1/4" ss sleeve over the heater takes up more of the air flow area so that the air flow is a bit more restricted with the HIbrid.

... All this according to the Master @Alan. Not from personal experience , real knowledge.

From what I have been reading you cannot go wrong with either one. I think I am leaning to the hybrid and my second one will be the all glass. That was the easy part...the hardest part is going to be the stem, sooooooo many options.

I just received a box from Alan according to my wife!!!

If I could just get someone to finish my workday off I'd be testing my brains out!! But I can't....so I'll try to be patient!!

Here is a photo of the glass heater cover with the heating element and ss sleeve installed.



This is the only configuration provided with the glass heater cover now. Too much heat energy is radiated out to the wood without the stainless steel sleeve installed to act as a shield. I also found that the glass beads are not necessary since the wires never move after being soldered in place. Hope this photo explains the design a little better.

@hoyo77 - Sorry for too many tube options. The roasting tube is such an important part of the system. Everyone has their preferences.

I'm a happy camper!! Orange Agate HI with Purple Heart 18mm WonG, WCT, and U-tube. This is my first log and I haven't had enough time to give it a proper review but so far so good. I'll have to do more testing over the weekend!!

@Alan yeah the tube options...I am sure with your assistance and the guys on the forum, I will end up getting every tube imaginable...lol..

I hear ya hoyo! I have some stems from my UD (glass and silicon) and I want to try something else! The cork tubes look neat, as well as the SS tubes. I typically only use a couple smidgens (literally, found a measuring spoon!) in my stems so efficiency rates and proper extraction are fairly high in my book. I noticed that some herb vapes well in the all glass stem and some do not. Silicon paired up to an EQ elbow seems to vape anything into oblivion, the taste just suffers. Excited to see the differences in the HI!

Yeah I hear you...I have been exchanging a few emails with Alan over the past couple of days and he is a bit behind so I still got a while to go before I get my hands on one however I am buying one of his older units to get my JedHi practicing started. The one thing Alan said that got me was he likes to start off with his all glass log to get the tastier sessions and then finishing it in his SS...so looks like I may be saving for 2 logs...lol.....but I am also real curious about the hybrid could it be the best of both worlds????
he also said the wood that I won was enough to make 12 units...hmmmmmm....lol one for each room..

I have finally made a real breakthough using my HIsaber. The GonG adapter always seemed to leave me with a scorched top of the load while the rest remained marginally cooked. I could never dial it in to get the ABV fully darker brown the way I wanted it. Using a wooden (WonP?) adapter has now changed everything.
This thing totally kicks ass now! It's without a doubt my favorite vaping setup to date. It milks the tube super quick and fades off just like a dab. No needs to stir and take a second hit - it's completely done and thoroughly roasted leaving the ABV looking absolutely delicious in itself. Efficiency is of course through the roof and the effects will make you not want to leave the house all weekend, except for Chinese takeout.

ok I understand now why this thread is on the quiet side...I get it now. Since I got a little ways to go on getting my Hi, I bought an older unit from Alan with a wooden gong and a turbo tube. first impression, damn this thing is small..but I liked the feel of the wood...very nicely made. I plugged it up let it get nice and warm..i think it only takes five minutes..i let it go for thirty. I place some Purple Cream in the turbo tube and proceeded to go for a ride.....JEEEEZ....I was amazed at how much vapor came out of my mouth...I was also amazed at the fucking taste. this is better than the firefly when it comes to taste. I went and got me a tall glass of ice water and continued to test the turbo tube..then I switched to the gong..the gong took a minute to master but once I found her sweetspot I was in the floor. I had 2 sessions with the turbo tube, two with the gong and I am fucking plastered. I have not been this damn high in a minute. This thing is amazing. I will travel with it..got the perfect carry bag to keep it safe...Maxpedition FR-1..that bag rocks...
@Alan damn dude you rock..i cannot wait to see what the newer core hits like and I am sure when my name comes up you will have something even better. I got quite a few vapes and this one puts all of them to shame. ALL of them. @Alan I know you were joking in the email about making a portable..but dude I think you should look into it..i am a customer for life.

Yeah, there is only so many times you can repeat how great the HI is. And it's tough to really explain what makes it different from other logs. It just... is. And it's possibly one of the most positive threads on this forum?

Doesn't seem as though too many people end up unsatisfied with their HI... I know I sure didn't.

I too am a customer for life. One new HI per year!

I feel you...I mean I got a unit with an old core in it and like I said it blasts everything I got on deck right now. as far as I am concerned he can keep re adding me to the list. I cannot decide what tube I like the best. the turbo tube gets real dense vapor cause of the tight fit and the wooden gong enhances the taste of the herb...I smack my lips after every hit!

I hear ya, @catbird! Back when I put my name on the list, I could not foresee myself EVER having a HI. I figured (and sort of hoped) I'd be dead first.

Now, here I am, and the HI is my only desktop, and I feel little urge to buy any other desktop, except for nostalgia or simple curiosity reasons.

And I spend WAY too much time each day just staring at my HI's glory. And at my future HI's glory (the buckeye burl provided by @Snappo). If I were a billionaire, I'd probably spend all fucking day just staring at my HI and its wooden roasting tubes...

I don't know what the fuck Alan does exactly in the process to make his HIs so ... magical. And I don't use that word lightly. But whatever it is, it's something you just have to experience for yourself...

Let me make it clear I mean no dig on any other log vape. I fucking love log vapes. But the HI ... it's more than love ... it's family.



PS. FWIW... I bought the wood for my next HI approximately 1 year in advance...

And yes this thread gets quiet at times. There is practically nothing to complain about with this thing. Alan builds consistent, reliable units that just kick ass. And their looks kick ass too! I've owned a fair number of vapes now, but the HI is one of the only 2 I know I ALWAYS will keep on hand.

That's quite an endorsement. All this HI love makes me antsy for mine, but I have my beloved underdog (I want both, but don't intend to pick up any other desktops). Anyway I notice some amount of competition between log vape owners, but it doesn't really compute for me because I have the capacity to love more than one, and also because I don't presume others use the same criteria for their choices/preferences as I. How long did you wait? Are you now glad you didn't die in the interim? I sure hope so...

wow....just finished a morning session with this beast...shit!!! well I no longer wake and bake I wake and roast...nothing like roasting some herb and drinking some coffee made from one of the oldest coffee roasters in Atlanta...good combo..glad I don't have to go to work..i cannot fuck with this thing in the morning. I am too high to get off the damn couch.
this thing is also very economical..probably the most economical vape I have had. I get so Hi off so little and the taste is just AMAZING!!!

Yeah, if you go through some of the old threads / posts of FC (The Archives!) you can find some CRAZY competition between owners / manufacturers. Something about making / using a log vape that creates a very intense personal connection.

I'll admit I fell victim to this a little bit, but thanks to the counsel of some wise FC'ers, I'm beginning to "see the light", as it were...

And glad you've come around on the log vape competition situation, which I concur is fueled somewhat by the depth of feeling that we log vapers, and makers, have about our pieces. I'd like my UD and HI to get along.

Lol, that's been my morning ritual for the past two weeks now! One big ass hit out of the HI and whatever tube I'm into that day along with espresso right afterwards. $$ conical grinder + $$ E61 machine + HI + sick glass = .... ... teh win!

Seriously, high-end espresso and vaping go together like peanut butter & jelly.

Dude...it is now my morning ritual. The herb mellows me out and that hi grade caffeine kinda keeps me from fallin asleep from being to damn mellow.....lololol

I too had a nice HI + Coffee breakfast this morning as well. Here's to taking a day off of work to watch soccer and get HI!

Day 3 or 4 shit I don't know, I am Hi....I had an old school aromazap, still got it as a matter of face. Nice to see how logs have evolved. Wake and roast session with some Animal Cookies and a very nice Ethiopian Blend coffee. I am loving how small this thing is and how huge it hits. I like holding it in my hand, I play a lot of tennis so sometimes my hand cramps up. I cannot find one negative thing to say about this vape. I now also see why a lot of people use voltage keepers on logs...I shall get one myself..it will be nice to tone it down just a bit to make the herb last longer...lol...right now the way the temp is set on this thing..it is a head banger which is okay I am cool with that.
