Discontinued The Hammer Vaporizer

It should fit most but not all. All of my rubber grommet downstem pieces are 9mm which is the size of the Hammer lock on stems. I do have a friend however, that has a piece with a 12mm grommet/downstem, so you may run into a few pieces that this will not work.
Is there a site to buy it online? Or did you get it at a headshop?

Nice one! A friend also jumped on the 420 deal and we've been enjoying it. I have a pnp and agree with your comparisons.

We've gotten a better handle on the hammer - e.g. recognizing ignition by sound.

We do have a couple of concerns: First, the hammer needs refilling about every 2 stems. This seems excessively frequent. Typically we'll find the roar sound to be less or inconsistent, then we'll look at the tank window seeing it at certainly less than 1/2 full (say, a 1/3 or 1/4 full - hard to precisely say). Then we refill - often purging first. We have on occasion ran the Hammer down to non-ignition.

Second, I personally find it a bit inconsistent both in its roar sound and performance - sometimes its a sputtery roar, often the roar quiets way down to a shhh after a few seconds. A more consistent and louder roar may indicate better performance. Sometimes we're able to cash a stem quickly, other times it takes some time to brown out. We may try other butane - i.e. Newport instead of Calibri. The fuel setting doesn't seem to fix this inconsistency. We start with it set at 0 and gradually move it up through the session to 75 or 100.

I really like this little vape. So far, it meets my friend's needs - inexpensive, effective, and unfussy. I also think it's near 1-hitter-ability is very impressive and also key for my friend. He's still combusting and will probably continue doing so, but the Hammer may be earning a place.
How often are peeps refilling the tank?
We're finding about every 2 stems which seems inconveniently frequent.

I have it tuned good so it takes me 20-25 secs to heat up and every 10s after that is a cloud. I usually do sessions so I can do 5-7 stems. But I use good butane whipit, vector or Newport so I always get it to ignite. But if I do a 25s heat up and wait a hour or so to do another session I will have to refill in 3-4 stems. I figure the amount wasted just in heat up is where most of the butane goes. So I've learned to use the hammer to do 2-3 stems in one sitting. And I do notice when its low it might look like it has but will run cooler then when full. All in all its great a bigger fuel tank/efficient then this thing would the much more popular. But for what I payed its still hands down one of my best vapes and a daily driver.

chimpybits I think that will vary from user to user, different timing on heat up like say my 30 second heat up may really be your 45, heating between hits my 10 may really be your 20 ( I ain't actually gonna sit with a timer) I run mine at 100% so i'll use up fuel faster then someone's hammer that's set on 70%.

I believe 2-3 stems per fill is about right.

I have found my hammer seems to run the best on cheap drug store Ronson butane, you know the stuff in the white can with the red top that sorta makes high quality lighters sputter and run cool.

We do at most 30 second heat up. Subsequently, we pretty much hit it right away - ignite with outstretched arm then straightaway bring to mouth. We run at 0% and turn it up incrementally over the session, finishing at say 75 or maybe 100. It reliably ignites and produces vapor well at any fuel setting so I feel our unit is being run as brief as could be.

I dunno every 2 stems is annoying. One of the touted advantages of butane-powered vapes is not having to carry spare batteries around. Obviously, this is negated if one has to pack a butane can around. Hopefully another brand of butane will improve matters.

Agreed. A great, inexpensive vape, but the fuel tank/fuel efficiency is a weakness.

I got a vapman recently because I figured I can get a lighter with a big tank. It works amazing and I do fill my lighter less then my hammer. They both are beast of there own but you can't beat a glass stem IMHO. I always keep both vapes on me so I never have to recharge batteries.

Mayb If you started at full temp you'd have less heat up and would cash the load quicker.

I've been packing very small stems (~8mm tapped but not packed), heat at 70%, 20 sec heat up 3 BIG rips and done. I can get (about) 6 to a fill but ill pay more attention and let you know for sure when I've double checked.

Can I add, for the record and those in the future who can use the search function, that pressed hash is a dream with this thing. It packs enough power to do all soft and most hard hashes I've thrown at it. The moroccans are doing alright out of me this month lol

Gotta add to @Enchantre's comments here; Ed's Hammer stem is a winner! Hits great and it even locks-on properly.

Sure, the metal gets hot, as @Hammer Vaporizer had mentioned was a concern. But in my experience the top of the Hammer itself gets hotter anyways, so it's nothing new really. Totally workable imo. Highly recommended!

Not having to worry about the fragile glass when using this vape changes everything, quite liberating. And it's beautiful. Mine's cocobolo:

Hey, that looks good. The dark red brown cocobolo wood color is a good one methinks for the Hammer. Also impressed how it's now more pipe than crack pipe.

I agree. I actually ended up with the cocobolo somewhat by accident; I asked for it on the phone but was thinking of bocote in my mind. Ended up a happy mistake! I think the reddish hue of the cocobolo goes nice with the Hammer's red accents.

I bought mine at the local head shop. Mini bongs are also available online. Example site
I think any of the rubber grommet style mini bongs on that search result page will work with the lock on stem as a downstem.

My butane use observation:
I seem to get around 3 to 4 stems out of a butane filling. I have not "tuned" my Hammer and mine works best on the 0/lowest possible setting. I will move the slide up to 20 to 25% sometimes to get a faster warmup time, but will then move my valve setting back to 0 for vaping. I suppose I could tune my Hammer down a few notches but have been happy using it with the factory setting.

I also find the flame performance decreases when the tank gets less than half full. I then have to compensate by moving the butane valve setting higher. Since I only really use this vape around the house/yard, I have started refilling my Hammer after a stem or two to avoid the compensation needed from a less than half full tank. Other than an initial purge after the factory fill ran out, I have found that refilling without purging or using up the entire tank does not appear to effect the performance of my unit.

Good info, thanks OS. I also find that the flame performance decreases when tank less than half full and this does compel me to refill even though it has more ignitions left. We've also started to fill w/o purging and will feel more confident doing so.

I might try keeping the setting at 0 and refilling w/o purge when below 1/2. I'm not really sure which setting is best. I'll pass on the info to friend - thx fuckers of combustion. 3-4 stems is typical if you stretch it; 2 if you prefer to keep the flux optimal.

About the wooden stems.. How do you clean them? I assume the wood stem and metal bowl are removable? They do look great and would be ideal for a unbreakable combo.
The metal sleeve isn't designed to be removed. Inside, a screen is held in place between a pin and a metal retaining clip. That screen can be removed for cleaning/replacing, and the wood part can be cleaned with a quick swab from a q-tip damp with ISO.

As far as cleaning goes, first off you will never ever soak or submerge it in liquid, thats a no no. All my stems are coming with an internal retaining clip over the screen so it will never fall out. I have been looking for a while here and there to find a tool that would remove the clip and think I may have found just the right thing. I am gonna get a few and offer them at the website. The clips have an eyelet at the end of each end, in a normal use you would use an internal retaining clip pliers to remove it, but being that its placed down into the bushing its a little tricky to get out. I remove the clip by using the pointed end of a compass like the one you used in school as a kid. I poke the point into one of the eyelets and apply pressure by pushing it sideways and lift up. Once it is lifted slightly you can lift the clip up the rest of the way and take it out. Then swap out the screen. Once the screen has been replaced mash the clip together at the ends and push it down into the bushing. I use a round dowel rod to seat the clip back in the bushing. You can use anything will a dull end to push down on the clip maybe the eraser end of a pencil or something similar. For cleaning out the inside of the stem, you can dip a cotton swan in ISO, squeeze out the excess, then swab the inside of the stem. Let it dry and you are good to go.

I think all this talk of (throttle) percentages can be quite misleading because we are all tuned differently. For example, I keep mine tuned hot and so I only set the dial between about 0-30%.

I am really looking forward to my Ed's stem, he is working on it this week:D

Who was it that got ripped and lost their Hammer?

There is one the classifieds... for $60

I am sure you will enjoy it, this thing is a beast. It's just that when I look at Kid Fateds sig and his entries in the Classifieds... :(

I like to think of it as 'concentrating one's collection', rather than losing vapes.

As long as concentration keeps at least one vape. If the number of available vapes falls below one, then this combustion fucker gets sad. :(

Edit: Hold onto that VG, Fated!

For the record, I'll be rocking a LB to control symptoms until things get brighter. I'm sad to see things go, but I need to do what's best for me. Everything will be okay, I'll still be around the only forum I visit. And @syrupy Uncle Vito has both the VG's. My sig is a little out of date, so I apologize for that ;)

Where can I get fumed / color changing stems?

Also if you want to carry your lock on stem loaded on the go, it fits in the cyclone blunt wrap doobie container and is for the most part smell proof.
