Sleeping in CA, Maybe another stem is in order. I own 3 wood mouthpieces and have been experiencing good flavor and durability, better yet I get medicated. Sorry that your stem isn't working out for you. Eds a busy guy he will get back to you. Please don't bash his products that he sells with rude behavior.

@stickstones welcome to my level man. I am like wtf here. I can't figure how it's not working even half as well as the glass!

Instill believe it's flawed, or old stock. I bought it from Puffitup. Who knows?

For the record I like Ed and his stems. I just find this particular one to be substandard and I was/am pissed off by it. Not directing it, just venting/informing/looking for a resolution.

I know it will get resolved, I was just hoping it was stupidity on my part- user error or something.

how old is your stem? I found mine improved with usage as the inside coated with vaporrez which seals the wood in a way.

It's brand new. A friend from here just brought his over. Seems to work the same. For me this just does not provide thick enough vapor for my needs.

After a side by side I am certain my stem is fine, it is just not for me.

I am bowing out now, thanks for your help and advice!

Perhaps its not one of Eds stems since purchased from a different place?

Ronp-This is a bit off topic: I purchased a wood stem for my Arizer Solo from VaporStore.com; how do I know it's one of ED's wood stems. Also, I can run 2 to 3 sessions back to back with the OME glass piece, but I can't even run one session completely, with the wood stem, without the solo over heating and shutting down before the 12 minutes. The solo unit also gets very hot. Is there some type of trick that I'm overlooking. If you (Ed) don't put a little stamp or engraving on your original wood stems you should think about doing it. I would like to know I'm getting an original Ed's wood stem.

Eds response.post2323: @Ronp, I have thought about branding the stems a few times, you are exactly right though, how are you gonna know if you got an original Ed's TnT piece. I have only made them in a handful of species, the one you got from VaporStore is one of my dealers, its been a while since they last ordered, they must still have some. You probably have a Granadillo Solo stem, thats the only species I wholesale due to the cost of the others. Yours is probably dark brown with some black in it here and there, it looks alot like Hawaiian Koa. Its a very dense species and handles well for a Solo stem. If you check my website you will see the ones I regularly offer. I know of one store that has contracted a guy to copy my shit, the do em in walnut, cherry, and maple I think, I didnt see any exotic pieces. It took em a couple of years, but what one man can do, another can do!

I made a mistake above, I own 4 wood stems from Ed. The Ascent produces mass vapor clouds with the wood stems and does a primo job of medicating. The Solo not quite so big of clouds, but it medicates just as well as the glass. No problems with either the Solo or the Ascent wood stems.

Just wanted to clarify that for you cloud chasers.

Hello and good morning everyone, pls forgive me for my absence the last few days. I have been burning the candle at both ends. I have mentioned how my days generally start at midnight, I give it hell for about 12 or more hours a day, visit with the family and eat some dinner then its time for bed at about 7-8pm or so. Have been doing this schedule for a while now and I guess it caught up with me. I took the last few days and got some serious rest and slept most of the time. It was well needed and I had to have it. I hope everyone understands.

Oh and the freaking washing machine went out too, $500 for a cheap one at that! Freaking computers, doesnt mean that my boxers are gonna get any cleaner just cause there is a nifty light system that shows you what cycle you are in, damn it!

Wow there has been quite a bit of posting here since my time gone. I will do my best to answer everyones post.

@Vicki Thanks for posting the lip balm, I am sure it works well and thank you for your input. I am sorry for my confusion with your two stems. I thought when you wanted Cocobolo with turquoise that you must have wanted a 3" and let it slip my mind that you already had a 3" Blackwood. There is a difference and I should have asked you more about what you were looking for. I do offer a 2" wooden solo wong just for use with a water pipe, but its so short you really cant add any inlay to it. I have something a little special headed your way tomorrow to make up for me not being more inquisitive with you. I am sure you will like it and cant wait to hear what you think!

@vakedcow I need to get in touch with you, I will email you soon and touch base with ya. I hope all is well!

@herbivore21 I gave the Lapis a few tries, I will give it another shot soon, wasnt very pleased with it. Hopefully my next attempt at working it will be worth taking some pics. I thank you for stopping by and wish you well. Your order will ship first thing tomorrow!

@FlyingLow Yes I agree it was nice talking with you also. I appreciate the business and look forward to what you think of my work!

@CarolKing Thanks for stopping by and spreading the word for the BAB, it has a nice way of adding a little life back into a worn piece and also works well for lubrication as I am told.

@hoyo77 Wow that is a super sweet piece of wood you got yourself there. Just let me know when you wanna do something and I will do my best to get ya right! I cant wait to see what kinda vape you are gonna have made from it.

@RUDE BOY I am really glad you like that piece I made for you! I am glad it performs as well as you like. I hope you enjoy it for a long time to come!

@thesoloman Much time has passed since all this began here at FC, many things have changed and still continue to do so! Its evolution baby! Thanks for posting the pic!

@Herr_Dampf You are exactly right my friend, there is only so much you can do with a small amount of wood. Am gonna package your order this afternoon, it ships tomorrow! Plain jane works for me, I am a no frills kinda guy, I try to let me mouth speak for itself and most of the time have to pull my foot out of it.

@Snappo Thanks for stopping by and repping the BAB bro! I appreciate your input!

@stickstones I too like the long solo stem, I have big hands and the shorter stems just seem dainty, the longer just feels handier to me.

@Enchantre BAB is very handy, I do recommend it and if you wanna pick some up sometime pls let me know, I think you will be glad you did! Thanks for taking the stem on all these field trips, I am glad its out and about!

@Sleepin in CA Pls forgive me for not getting back to you quicker. I am really sorry to hear your disappointment and unhappiness with the stems performance. I would normally suggest you try a different grind technique, one not so fine and then pack lightly. I just finger grind my loads and use the straw method of loading the bowl then lightly pack with my finger. Then place the stem in the solo, set to the desired temp setting +1, allow it to reach the temp then slowly inhale for as long as you can. I find that that I get nice thick clouds this way. I really dont think about where the stem is placed in the solo, whether or not the notches line up with the holes. Just a slow steady draw always works for me. But from what all I have read, this stem maybe is just not for you. I really hate you are not happy with it and do hope you will let me know what I can do to get you right! I look to hear from you soon and I am sorry for all the headache and frustration it has caused you.

Thank you everyone for your effort, help, and input above and throughout! I really appreciate it and am glad to see so many people pitch in to help a guy out. I do not like to hear anyone unhappy with my work and will do my best to turn a frown upside down!

@Ed's TnT I just use that hemp lip balm because that's what I have on hand. When I run out, I may give your stuff a try. :)

My confusion about the stems is all on me, not you at all. I should have made myself more informed, so please don't feel badly! You don't need to make anything up to me. I love your work! :D

@KidFated. Oh no bro, evidence huh, that aint cool! I got you just the piece when you want it!

@Vicki Nah me being the guy I should have been aware of all my products and what can or cant be done. It was my responsibility to inform you of what I have to offer and should have better done so. I have always been told if you dont know the answer, never say "I dont know", find the answer and inform the customer as quickly as possible. I got a little sidetracked and dropped the ball is all.

@vakedcow Thanks for your understanding!

@Herr_Dampf Good deal, looking forward to your thoughts all ready!

Over the falls, in a barrel
I've finally joined the cool kids club! Been admiring Ed's work for over a year, ever since I got my launch box in fall '12 really. I remember seeing Ed's solo stems and wanting a solo just based on how nice those stems looked, long before I ever knew how good the Solo is.

For now I've joined the exclusive Ed's Hammer Stem club!

It's a beauty. I mixed myself up a bit because I asked for a wood species from memory, thinking that I knew what I was talking about. Turns out that I'd confused cocobolo with bocote in my mind somehow. Doesn't matter though; I love this cocobolo! It's got a bit of a reddish hue that goes well with the Hammer's red accents imo.

Hi, I got my Nano Paela stem today, just made a bowl and it works as expected, the wood colour is in the same tone than my maple nano.

It's more quiet to use this stem than a fuckin breakable stem, there is a bit difference of taste actually, perhaps it will disappear with time...

I'm going to enjoy again my new stem!

So excited to see what Ed comes up with next!

I placed an order for a Hammer stem last week, and have given Ed complete creative license to do whatever he wants:D I bumped it up to ad the turquoise, and cannot wait to see how it comes out!

I know this will not be my last order... Wong's are next;)

Really happy with my stem but after 2 or 3 bowls I noticed a bit beeswax was on the ss sleeve...I cleaned it, I have a question: do you put beeswax in the stem? (I think not!)

Taste is really different but I like it and I think it roast my herbs better than a glass stem, I think the ss bowl add some conduction...
