Are we permitted to post pics of our long wongs, or our shorty's, whichever the case may be?:rofl:

EDIT: Just a little levity folks. We all know FC gives new meaning to "wood" porn.

And remember, two wongs are better than one!

You and all your friends should start playing with Ed's wong;)
He really likes that!

Double Wong porn.

For someone who wants their Solo stem to work well, as in thick vapor production through glass, what tips would you recommend?

So far I am seriously unimpressed with my Solo stem. Too much heat dissipation it seems like. Hoping I'm doing it wrong, so show me how it's done right guys!

Not sure why you're not getting good vapor production through glass, but try heat soaking your stem load for an extra minute or so before your first draw, and give it about a 15 second heat soak between draws thereafter during your session. No need to pack too tight. An occasional stir can also be beneficial. Heat soaking just means that you let the herb cook in the stem bowl for a little while before pulling. I always use this method because it produces thicker vapor for me, particularly because I'm not able to get the primo heavily trychomed powder coated flowers that produce great clouds, so have to work a little harder at it, but really no problem - I'm in no real hurry. Please let us know if this was at all helpful so everyone benefits, one way or other.

You may not get as big of clouds as glass but that doesn't mean you aren't getting medicated. I notice this more with the Solo than the Ascent. The wood medicates very well. You could also try a higher temp?Someone once suggested it was because of the metal bowl? I don't know maybe someone else could chime in about that.

I vaporize the same with the wood as I do with the glass. Getting medicated is more important than thick clouds. Love the wood.

The clouds are weak even with a heat soak. So far I have tried triple screening, moving the screen up, tight packs, loose packs, preheat stem load, either my stem is faulty or these things are terrible.

Since eds stuff is usually awesome I'm thinking this stem is fucked.

That or people who need thick vapor need look elsewhere.

@CarolKing I'm glad it works for you, but mine sucks horribly.

Maybe your screen is dirty? can you hold it up to the light and easily see thru it? Maybe a cleaning would help it out.

It's clean as a whistle. I also tried several other screens and combinations of screens.

I have tried several types of top shelf, I've stirred, I've pre heated, I've slow drawn, I've used multiple screens.

Is there anything else to try? I'm seriously at a loss, and I feel like I wasted money.

Edit.... I have also tried it with the air holes and vents aligned and misaligned.

Well, I can tell you without reservation that "these things" ARE NOT "terrible. Quite the opposite in the extreme. 111 pages with 99.9% positive feedback on this thread. I get the same clouds as I do with any other glass stems, and enjoy it much more than glass. I am understanding your frustration which is evident in the tone of your report. Now, will continue to try to help - can you tell us if the ss bowl is securely joined with the wood stem (e.g., does it wiggle at all or is there an unusual gap anywhere around the circumference)? How does the draw effort compare to your glass stem? Does the draw seem too airy, or too restricted? Are you sure your vape is heating as well as usual? Have you tried another power outlet? Is this the same herb used successfully with the glass stem, without change in exposure to moisture? Let's look at these things before exploring further - just trying to help:).

Firstly MINE is TERRIBLE or I wouldn't be here looking for help. If yours works well... Awesome. Mine doesn't.

There is no gap, the draw is majorly airy. I am also using the oring mod. No wiggle at all.

I also tried two different solos.

My glass stems kick my wooden stems ass easy. Rock without effort. Super thick vapor.

Frankly I think this stem is flawed in some way. I have emailed Ed but came here as I am still awaiting a response.

You say the draw is "majorly airy", as I suggested you test for. That sounds like a problem. I suggest you contact Ed. He is great to work with.

EDIT: I have edited my post to account for the edit of your post. However, your original comments are still preserved in the quote box above.

I usually heat my wooden stem one temp setting higher than I do the glass stems. I find eds stem absorbs more heat and needs to be just a little hotter to get thick hits.

I suggest turning the heat up as much as necessary to see if it helps.

Also, I see you have been designated an accessory maker here. Please read the rules for how to conduct yourself in another vendor's thread.

No dice, already tried with a full preheat with loaded stem to heat setting 7. Still weak, lackadaisical vapor.

I don't get the same "clouds of vapor" with my stem from Ed's tnt as I do the glass, for me it's the long mellow sessions that are its appeal. I do receive amazing extraction and effects.

If I stuff the glass stem and vape starting the session at 6 moving up to 7 half way through I can finish a bowl in a session to a session and a half, with Ed's stem I get 2 1/2 - 3 sessions. For me often what I need is to stay at a functional level of "stonedeness" and as long as I'm vaping and maintaining a constant and consistent level of medication I'm good. I don't believe anyone gets the same results out of ed's stems as they do glass, correct me if I'm wrong. To expect it to be the same being as they are made of wood and steal is a bit unrealistic IMHO, Now if Ed could make a solo stem with no steal and only a wood bowl you may get equal to or bigger clouds but no way-no how with a steal bowl.

I think I see the problem. If you need 2 sessions to finish a bowl, you vape much lighter than I do. I use about a 1/4 a day. I need heavy medication....2-3 bowls a session. Maybe this stem isn't good for iron lungers? Though I think @Caligula would have a similar issue if so? I'm still leaning towards mine being flawed though. YouTube videos show better production than mine seems capable of.

@RUDE BOY thanks for the concise response!
