The Lotus Vaporizer

So yesterday I could see flexing in my lotus plate as I heated....... Should I be worried?

I have noticed that on mine from the beginning and haven't had a problem.....yet. (I have a backup plate ready to go though just in case )

I think that every Lotus does this though it just hasn't been reported because you can only see it from a certain viewpoint.

Simple kinetic molecular theory really. :hmm: (Damn those exited Atoms, and their heat expansion, cool contraction properties.)

I feel this topic has snowballed a bit since my original post of my first plate failure.

I have been on plate #3 (still older version with the ridges) for the last few weeks, and am starting to show signs of cracking again:(

As I did with the last two plates, I am going to ride it out as long as possible till I start seeing adverse behaviors (i.e. combustion). MT's support has been excellent though and I am glad to see many of you are already using the newest plate.

I gotta give big props to Max for keeping me, and all his other customers, vaping in spite of a few failed plates. They have definitely earned me as a life-long customer.

Received a new lotus today, and can confirm the new plate is much better. The vapor produced tastes even better, and no charring is occurring. The bowl is lasting longer, too.

Also, this is my first experience with the 6 1/2" stem...had the shorter version before. It's worth getting the long version...you can see what you're doing better, and it's not that big of a difference in size.

Hmmm, So they are being sold from MT with the new hot plates installed? Im so close to owning one im dreaming about it lol

Also, does anyone know whats the deal with the ezvaporizer site? Something called sitelock usually pops up preventing me access. But I was wondering if they stock the blue cap and if their j hook is the same that mendo offers?

I cant seem to find the tourqoise cap on any other site or they charge extra? whats up with that?

I ended up ordering from Mendo because no other vendors had the natural wood finish in stock.

No matter where you buy from, it clearly appears Max and his team have stood behind each unit that is out there.

Yes, they come with the new plate installed.

I'd buy from the lotusvaporizer.com site, they have the turquoise color always, you're getting the newest version, and I received it in three days priority mail. Worth it!

Sitelock is a website security feature, not sure why it would block you. Maybe try a different browser? I'm sure you could order by phone. Their # is: 855-398-2737. They still have %15 off with PORT15 last time I checked, and free shipping on orders over $50. They use Priority mail also. If you call they can tell you if they have the new plates in stock, they told me they get new shipments every week. They have the same J hook. They don't stock the blue one though........

It seems (from the pics and videos posted recently) that I have a much bigger flame size, but hold the torch a fair bit further away from the cap.

Poor phone photos, so you'll have to excuse the quality but this is more how I'm using mine. No scorching unless I try hard, and very evenly extracted ABV to whatever colour I want (depending in how long/hot I hit it).

The bright blue flame only ever touches the cap for a few seconds at the start of a session if the cap is cold. After that never.

Tipically the use shown to us by @jojo0420 clearly shows the red dot on the plate because the flame is never put away from the plate for maintaining an high temp air flow w/o glowing plate.

IMHO i would say it is an overranged use which speed up the coming of time of cracks, see.

I agree aslo to say that @Max Jitter has me for life customer too. Ill mail you sometimes for restock.

I really like the painted caps, but went with wood cause I thought it would wear better.
Of those with painted caps, does the paint come off or chip easily?

I got a black painted cap - I really regret not going for natural.

Dropped my Lotus once from 5 feet onto concrete with a fair bit of velocity (my 18-14mm adapter flew out of the D020) Luckily the Lotus and the WPA survived, there was a nasty chip in the cap! It's white under the black paint (primer coat?). Luckily a black sharpie helped, but I am still thinking about buying a natural cap and giving this one to my less fortunate friend who loves the Lotus.

also.. i think the paint gives of painty-smell when heated... for quite some time... is there any smell coming of the plain wooden cap when heated?

Being that the tank/bombproof Plenty was my first vape, I did not exactly develop good habits- countless hard drops from 5 feet on wood floors. Heck even yesterday I accidentally knocked over my bubbler pretty hard with the lotus cap on it... it smacked the table pretty hard, but thankfully no glass damage and the cap is still in good shape!

Which color did you get Vapors?

I would say that this is too large a flame. Scaling from the pic, it looks like it's 3/4"+. If it was smaller it could be closer to the hot plate and not over-heat anything.
Of course every one has their own style of heating but that's my opinion. There's a lot more styles and subtlety of heating on this forum than I have figured out.

Yes mine now has the triangle starting to form and checking my unused cap that has no triangle imprint.

It is the ridges that are too close to the centre that IMO has caused this and the tension as I first thought of may contribute.

Great job max jitter has done in adapting the cap design in such a short time.

That must make the Lotus the Borg of the vapouriser universe.

None at all here.

I'll give it a go smaller then (after your feedback), although have to say my Lotus is working like a dream this way...
Try anything once though :brow:

I keep 2 lighters handy and rotate them, they get hot with prolonged use. I usually keep one a little higher than the other, not quite this long, but bigger than recommended. With a little more distance optimal temperature can be achieved.

Guilty as charged. :)

That wasn't a typical hit for me though. Just showing how I go about big, heavy hits.

I'm sure those high heat runs do add additional stress to the plate. That's the reason I ponied up the cash for a spare plate. But when this one cracks to the point it affects use I will request a replacement, I want that new plate!

@Max Jitter thanks again for your amazing service after the sale! It will keep me coming back for more!
This vape has pushed me over the edge, I am choosing to be smoke free 100%. With the MFLB and EQ I would occasionally still spark a bowl. But this unit scratches that itch, I can get vapor so dense that I don't miss smoking. Even dislike smoke now, yuck.

Long live the Lotus!

Edit:
After searching the internet for a 1.3mm/0.05" Allen wrench I went ahead and ordered one from MT (and a few other goodies...) Their price is justified after a futile attempt to beat it for a quality tool.

It's been about a month since my first post and initial problems, and I sit here after some quality time with the Lotus and figure I owe FC my thoughts, if only for posterity. I'll leave my mark on the world somehow.

I kind of bought the Lotus on a whim, as something to use off-the-grid where a battery just doesn't make sense. I never intended to use it as frequently as I now enjoy is my point, and my Solo and EQ have been collecting dust and will likely find their way to a more appreciative home very soon.

That's how wonderful the Lotus is, as has been reiterated throughout this thread. It's simple and beautiful, efficient and sure as hell effective. I had no real problems with my Solo before, but now it seems so mindless and uninvolved (and slow!) that it's hardly a joy to use any more. What I achieved in 12 minutes with the Solo I can do in under 2 with the Lotus, and I find the clouds much denser and tastier.

I absolutely love not ever needing to be tethered to an outlet, though I think I'll pick up an E-Nano for those occasions.

I've been using domed screens (shaped like a 'u' in the chamber) to make cleaning a little easier - even after I've dumped all my material there's still one last milky hit to be had from the screen(s).

To those considering the Lotus, consider no longer - there is no doubt this little beauty will leave you more than satisfied.

I wish there was more I could say, but I'd be preaching to the choir and beating a dead horse all at the same time.

I placed an order from the J Hook, the hex screwdriver and two replacement hot plate kits about a week before the new plates were released and they very kindly let me exchange them, so A++ customer service for sure.

I don't have the ideal piece of glass to pair with my Lotus just yet though - I'll have to pick up that d020 when I get the chance.

I considered a JET waterpipe but their aesthetic and design is so contrary to the Lotus that I don't know if I could stand it.

I'm completely under the Lotus' control now.. it's invaded the very base constituents of my being, and I don't think I want it any other way :uhoh:
