Easy to read Skunk Pharm QWISO instructions

Darb. With due respect, you've never tasted this QWISO.

This stuff seriously tastes as good as my best (Skunk Pharm method) QWET extracts, which taste exactly like the flowers I used smell. It does not taste like the AVB/reclaim stuff you are imagining. I would put this up against BHO for taste. I know that is a big claim! Follow the method carefully and see for yourself though :)

Nice topic OP but I have to agree with Darb... I have always had so kind of after-taste even on the tastiest Qwiso's I have had a chance to sample vs. top notch C02 extractions (no after taste but more vegetable taste then real bud's sugary and complexe terps profile) vs. top notch purged and dewaxed BHO (THE taste winner IMO)...
I even feel some kind of waterish taste on QWET's usually so that might be my pallet...

Guarantee there is no bad aftertaste on this stuff man. Seriously. I never thought this could be made with QWISO either. My past QWISO attempts had always had something funky about the taste, the degree of which varied quite a lot!

True I've never tasted yours. Any QWISO or QWET extracts I have made didn't tats as good as BHO. It's been a while though. I'll have to try another QWISO wash soon as I have at least 15 litres of %99 ISO. It would be great if it works because I have access to free ISO.

Oh man, do it, you will be stoked when you realise what you have at your disposal in all that ISO!

Please do post pics and detailed methodology if you can, in the name of science :D

@herbivore21 I'm sure it's possible and even more with ever clear vs. ISO ! BUT I have yet to taste it... as
I'm talking about QWET and QWISO and BHO and CO2 extractions done with similar approaches as GreyWolf's & Skunk Pharm's (that we have been following for so long and who make an incredible work, PROPS to them for the 1st open source bible of canna extracts!) to quality or even higher lab end oriented processes...
And to be more precise, (I hate to admit this, ROFL, stupid comment):

For me the most incredible flavors were always in fresh budders & waxes VS. shatters. Don't read me wrong, I prefer the aspect and longer shelf life of shatter (and usually do everything in my power to get shatter out of my runs...) and the difference in terms of taste are very subtiles... but I don't know why, on the same strain the buttery waxy version BHO is usually a little more complexe in terms of taste to the shattery version of the same extract. Thing is the budder's taste will degrade pretty fast vs. the shatter's and stable honeycomb waxes ones will remain intact for long time!

dude, i make wax as well, i find that second wash is waxier :)

I know there are a lot of various views about wax/shatter/budder, but what I'm saying is with careful methodology, you can produce these with any solvent :) ymmv but i am getting great wax and shatter now with iso or ethanol :)

Again I'm talking about shatter QWISO exact same looks as the QWISO pix you've posted (beautiful BTW!!!!) so totally aware you can get those with any solvent...but always that taste...probably related to the fact that ethanol becomes some "nasty" sugars at a certain temperature (I forgot) that I do not wanna dab/cover my lungs with on long term consumption

I know my friend, but I am saying that this QWISO run here tastes brilliant and has no bad aftertaste for me at all - so whilst you have had the experience of QWISO not tasting so good afterwards, I have not :)

There are so many variables that minute changes can completely change the finished product in these processes. There could be any number of explanations as to why we have different results ;)

Many thanks for the kind words on the pic too :)

I don't get the option of using butane, my living conditions preclude butane washes! To have such good alcohol based concentrates is such a blessing for me! :D

How much material did you use? how much shatter do you get out of say a ounce?

So is this healthier than BHO since the process doesn't require purging out chemicals? Am I correct int thinking that once the ISO evaporates, its solvent free?

Thanks! sorry for the newb questins, Im trying to learn!

ISO has to be purged, too. It's alcohol, not great stuff to inhale.

It's the purging that makes ANY concentrate "healthy", if you want to use that term. How about I use the word "safe"?

Purging makes it SAFE to use, regardless of solvent used (assuming you are using an approved solvent).

ISO is not healthy. It will kill you, if you use it wrong.

Purging ISO seems comparatively less complicated & possibly "safer".

After filtration, there are a couple of directions to go, depend on use. If it is to be used for vaporizing, we may place it a large surface area dish, like a Pyrex pie plate, and just blow air over it. That reduces it fast, but is not a suitable technique in dusty areas. That can be improved somewhat by placing cheese cloth over the dish and blowing over the top of that.

When the alcohol is visually gone, place the dish on a 140F heat mat, or float it in a hot water dish, until the smell and taste of the Isopropyl is gone, usually around 30 minutes to an hour.

True, as ISO is less explosive, it IS safer to purge around the house, however, I would be VERY careful, as the fumes are still HIGHLY flammable.

I purge my ISO reclaim outdoors, on the covered porch. Full air flow.

1. Spread material on a cookie sheet and bake it in a 93c (200f) oven until the buds are easily broken when rolled between your finger and thumb. Leave buds whole.

Like @smokum, I respectfully disagree. So would the researchers at Skunkpharm I believe. Look at GreyWolf's comments...

"I only use the drying oven on material that will made into decarboxylated oral oil. For vaporizing material, I freeze the material at 5 to 7 days drying and about 25% moisture content.

The monoterpenes will leave with the water if you make it bone dry."

"We dry our cured material even further by spreading it on a cookie sheet and baking it in a 200F oven until just frangible when rolled between the finger and thumb." http://skunkpharmresearch.com/qwiso/

At the very least, Skunk Pharm guys have a very ambiguous writing style. The verb in that first part of the sentence is dry. Nowhere in the writing structure do they relate this step to decarboxylation, which is suggested to be carried out at a slightly higher temp.

The proof is in the pudding, so I will try the next run excluding this step though, in the name of science. Photo's will ensue :)

The comment I posted above was straight from skunkpharm. If anything, your flavor should only improve without the oven step.

Please keep us posted if you find a flavor difference.

FWIW, I do not heat my flowers prior to a QWET run. I've been pretty impressed with the results. DIY science sure is fun eh? =)

Ataxian, exactly right brother ;)

like Jimi Hendrix said- I'm the one who's got to die when it's my time to die, so let me live (read: make concentrates) the way I want to. Lol

I will test out various methodologies though, lets make this as comprehensive a resource as possible. I plan to do this with QWISO, then QWET in the QWET thread :)

I am thinking of trying this with some ABV, the only thing is its all broken up so it would be hard not to extract plant material as well. I could throw in a shit load of initial material though.
