Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Does anyone else flat out avoid combusting now that they are in to vapeing or do you still combust if you have no other option? What are you opinions on situations like this?

Tough spot for sure, best avoided......but that means having options in place before hand.

I, for one, pass on combusting. Not only is it nasty to do now that I've managed to get out of the habit but the effects were sub standard IMO. And my enjoyment of vaping was impacted for a while afterwards.

IMO the best plan is to convert your blazing buds. Once they discover they can save a lot of weed money and not have to 'stick their face in the campfire' I bet they get on board too?

Good luck waiting it out, it will pass and when it does I bet your throat and lungs thank you for sitting it out? And you smell better, too.....not that there's anything wrong with how you smell now. Necessarily.....

The past few days I've been offered by multiple friends to come over and smoke with them. I am un easy about it because I'm so used to vaporizing but i don't have my ascent or MFLB yet (waiting on Massdrop). Does anyone else flat out avoid combusting now that they are in to vapeing or do you still combust if you have no other option? What are you opinions on situations like this?

I avoid combusting when possible. I even turn down the occasional puff at my friend's place since he doesn't vape at all (I've tried with 2 different vapes, he still doesn't like them).

To me, combusting is a hideous taste now that I vape exclusively. But, if there are no vapes around and I want to medicate, sure I'll combust

You could get rid of the holes entirely by ordering one of Ed's stems here: http://www.edstnt.com/index_files/Davinciascentwoodenvaporstems.htm but you would need to use a metal screen instead.

Careful when drilling these glass stems are uber fragile. Do it by hand under cold water if possible.

And welcome on board! :)

I don't understand how a screen gets installed when used with Ed's stems. I looked at the picture on Ed's site, but still don't quite get it.

Can anyone using Ed's stems show a picture of their set up?

I have not figured out pics yet.
Eds stem sits deeper in tapered stem hole leaving a conical depression that the screen will wedge into.
I use a small heat resistant brush to clean it each load. It works well.

That's the one-piece rather than the two-piece version?

Eds stem is 2 piece. You can buy the longer water pipe adapter (very pretty) which is used in place of the mouth piece stem. I got a free WP adapter from DV so I haven't purchased one from Ed.
I am not sure about your referral to one piece.

The screen is above the oven with the Eds stems. I prefer cotton on top of herb in the Ascent. I don't use the screen. I need to use the eraser end of a pencil to get the screen in place.

@CarolKing do you use glass flowers under the cotton.
I am waiting on delivery of my cotton. Baking the flowers now thank you.

Yes, I use the glass pipe screens (glass flowers) throughout the herb. I usually use around 6 or 7. You may end up with a different routine. I put 2 on the bottom then herb, 2 more, then more herb, try to pat down the best I can, but it's bumpy and hard to pack down. At the top I place 2 more glass flowers stems down. I then use a light layer of organic cotton on top of the packed load.

You will have to play around and see what works best for you. I start my temp around 375 degrees depending on the herb. I make my way to around 400 degree, sometimes I don't go that high. I have a better seal seems to get too hot above 400 now.

I don't know about oils. I don't have access. I don't think there has been much success with that on the thread. Others may want to chime in on that.

No indeed there was almost no single very positive user report in this entire thread regarding oils use... more like horror stories sometimes with the glass-can getting stuck in the bowl after unintended spillage...

I think pen-style vapes are more appropriate for that, no?

I misunderstood what you were referring to. Sorry about that. :uhoh:

Can the one piece water pipe adapter be used alone (with just a screen and no water pipe)? It's pictured that way at Ed's site below the two-piece set, but I can't tell what's inside the vaporizer.

I use the 14mm Wong as a mouthpiece dry, it can be used with a WT. You can use a screen in the unit if you need to. The screen is wedged up inside the top area above the oven of the ascent.

Sitting here now with some Strawberry Kush (could also be cough, live in a place where details aren't too important) using one glass bead on the bottom of the bowl, and @KeroZen 's tighter seal (not calling it a fix because I believed my ascent to be sealed properly beforehand as many others have been saying, really guys, it makes a huge difference) It would appear that the seal preventing cold air from entering also keeps my bead hotter. I would say with both of these things my ascent is just where I want it to be in terms of efficiency (can you say CLOUDS at 360?) gonna give the flowers (2 per bowl 1 on top and 1 on bottom) a whirl and let you all know how it goes. I also plan to order the F-bomb sometime in the new future, I'll have to record the hits with that thing on my now beastly ascent. *giddyness*

Interested in these Ed's TNT stems, specifically a shorty blackwood gong for the Ascent, being that it's not on the site I figure I have to wait until he is making a batch or custom order it? Has anyone had a similar project done that knows the price? I figure I should just use his thread but I'd rather ask here first.

Edit: I ask this because as far as I can see the straight gong is perilously fragile looking being as you can only push it in so far, and with a 100 dollar piece of glass sitting on time I'd hate to see it snap.

Sorry, know this has been brought up more then once, but how does the ascent do with oil?
I've had very limited success with shatter and wax. The only way I've been able to get it to vape is by putting a very, very small amount sandwiched between bud. It works but you get that bud taste along with it (not the pure oil taste that I was looking for). If you do try that I recommend using tiny amounts of oil completely surrounded by bud so that the oil doesn't come in contact with the bowl, it could make a mess, I didn't want to chance gunking up the bowl. I've since given up and just use a Ego pen style battery with the glass globe setup- it actually tastes pretty good and you can get massive clouds.

Hey guys, my grinder came with a pollen press and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with hash in the ascent

From what I understand according to others on this site, it's better to vape kief loose and not compressed. My SCS came with a pollen press, but I don't use it.

I've used un compressed kief sandwiched between bud with good results. It gives you a hash taste along with with the taste of the bud you use.

So I guess im gonna be lighting up the hash haha

It actually tastes pretty good mixed with bud in the Ascent. It's definitely worth trying. Crumble it up before using and try to keep it surrounded by bud. I think it makes less of a mess that way. I don't think it would really make much of a mess anyway but I try to keep my bowl as clean as possible.

Does anyone think Massdrop will ever ship our Ascents? It's so hard to be patient haha

I got tired of waiting for my Ascent from Mass Drop and just ordered a FlowerMate Vapormax V for $80 ($51 for HW and $29 for s&h). It ships from China and should be here in 3 days!

When I packed my kief in the glass jar, I felt it was inefficient and required a couple of hours to cook and even then the ABV was chewy texture instead of dried and crumbly
It is better to mix kief with a little bit of herb uncompressed IMO
Edit: I just remembered this as I was preparing some Kief for consumption. I will open the Ascent and sprinkle a pinch of finely ground kief powder into the oven. I grab nose hits off the vapors, getting hit after hit. There is good absorption with nasal tissues and the rush is pleasant. We used to do this with the smoke of snuffed roaches as we toasted them
