Cheap High Quality Bubbler

This thread is flying...
I saw a few pages back some pics of the 189. There were comments that there is no "tornado" vortex effect. IIRC @redglassgallery (jhanpixel) popped in here ( many pages back) and he was saying that the function of the turbine disc was more suited as a splash guard than a perc. The "tornado" vortex, Eagle-Eye whatever uses an entirely different setup.

lets just stop talking about it, its a touchy subject. some people can never justify or see the point of a $400 piece and they never will be able to because that's just not their thing. some people can't see the point of a cheap chinese piece because thats just not THEIR thing, its personal preference.

Lots of people on here making these arguments own or have owned this high end/priced glass. At a bare minimum they have used it and are talking from a place of experience. I have dumped literally a few thousand into glass that I love yet I cannot sit here and honestly claim that it is more functional than the amazingly priced hq China glass that is blowing up right now.

I also believe that determining the value of someone's art might be equally as difficult as someone admitting that they overpaid for a piece of art. Think about it!

Does anyone want to talk about a custom FC bubbler?

This has been mentioned a few times but doesn't go anywhere. I am thinking a 187 sidecar with no labels. Can on right side, I don't like how the W is left handed

I wanna find a D020-w with a normal shaped mouthpiece for the same price!

(I'm ambidextrous - I like which side the mouthpiece is on, I use a torch in my left hand while using my Lotus. So the W is perfect for me, but I can always switch hands if needed)

So, yeah, a matrix/sidecar/"normal" mouthpiece.....sounds good to me! But, as good as a D020 - FC
sounds, I think getting a consensus would be like herding cats

Just got back from the LHS. They were selling china glass. Blue Honeycombs and all that jazz. $130.

So after fake hitting a rooster frit I want one, can we get ying on that? please.

Honestly, I'm hesitant to buy a cheap frit (even though I want one). I've seen a few horror stories recently about cheap frits (and some Massdrop fritted pieces) which were sub-par (glass pieces coming loose, crooked, cracked easily, etc).

When I ultimately decide to buy a fritted bubbler, I will probably look for something MUCH more expensive than anything listed on this thread :2c:

As much as I love cheap pieces this seems smart. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but frit is just tiny glass flakes all stuck together. I would not want any lack of quality control for a product full of tiny glass flakes which I am supposed to inhale through.

My sunshine frit is still chugging along nicely... @jambandphanjam how is yours? I know some others jumped on it as well...:hmm:

True, I recall some discussion about this a while back, and some people got some decent ones. There may be some pieces out there working great, and some might be DOA, but I'm still not risking it. A perc is one thing, but those frits still scare me.

I think there is value in both ends of the spectrum of functional glass. There can be variations and quality issues with either end and either can be put together and function well. I depends on the source and their standards.

I own Chinese made glass. I have daily users that are from China. They are solid and functional pieces. My Octobongs from Black Leaf and my Blaze cage perk bubblers are going nowhere out of my collection. They are favs of mine. They have their place. You see funtional pieces are first a tool then can be art. If the piece functions and does the job, its an user. That's is the first goal of the 'functional' piece. Everything else is gravy.

That said, I have owned many, many Chinese made glass, given and or auctioned away many pieces that were users of mine. I have not found a piece equal to the mobius matrix perk. Very, very, very close though so I can see the difference can be missed unless side by side. However the quality of Mobius isn't actually better than many pieces I have from China. My mouth piece stem is angled and isn't straight. I looked over several at my LHS and selected the best one also. Ask Zangano Cruel who was with me when he did the same. That matrix perc is sweet, but one of a kind really

I say buy what works for you. That i have not found yet is a Chinese made recycler that I liked as a pure tool. Probably because I stopped looking, not because they aren't there...

The one thing we should not be is a snob. No benefit on that. If it works and is solid, it passes the main test, its a functional tool. No politics bah, bah, bah. Whoever can make a better mouse trap should be supported, I don't care where they live. This is one world. I support innovation and the people who make products that make my life better as long as they are moral.

Sorry, I don't have a comment on these pieces you are talking about. They do look sound though.

I'm pretty happy with that frit ashcatcher for sure... even if it has a tiny crack in the side... it works really well with the OGB J hook stem I have. I like to let it ride sidecar style so I can see it... no problem at all with the frit coming loose on this one for me so far.

Ok, so I tried out both my yingmin pieces last night with the LSV.

Water test impressions:
Ion clone:
Holy shit, hits buttery smooth, incredibly similar to my möbius matrix pieces.
Very low drag, no chug, great stacking.

Stereo clone:
Amazing diffusion, again very low drag.
Has that familiar stemless drag initially, but smooths out once that bit of water is cleared. I filled it about 2/3 of the way up the top perc, which is my understanding o the recommended water level for a real stereo.

Actual use impressions:

Ion clone:
The diffusion feels a bit rougher, which seems odd to me.
My real matrix purrs very similarly during a water test, and during a hit, whereas this one feels a smidge rougher during the hit.

It's still a brilliant piece (and awesome value given the price), but given the choice, I'll still use my ion over this one.

Basically, no negatives to report at all :)

Stereo clone:
Another glowing review.
As janky as the mouthpiece looks, I like the viewing angle it provides.

I noticed a definite chug during the hit, but it didn't seem apparent in the can or by the look of the diffusion.
I hit it looking in a mirror, and determined that The diffusion up the internal stem from the bottom matrix just seems a bit chuggy in there.

Doesn't really affect the performance of the piece, but I don't remember that happening when I had my möbius 60t.

More reviews to come (hopefully with a vid of me in action) once I've used them a bit more :)

Looking forward to your review Fredrick. You plan on keeping either one of them?
Yep, I'll be keeping them both for the time being - I'm much more impressed by these 2 pieces than the D020&-W.

I knew going Into it that I most probably was gonna pass along the D020&-W to friends for combustion reasons.
(As with many member here) I cannot stand combustion anymore, and I can't vape out of a piece that's got combustion resin without a very thorough multi stage pbw, and ISO wash.
Because of that, my rule is that my buddies can use my glass as often as they want, but vapes only. Since they love smoking, it's lead to most of my collection being solely for my own use. I consider that scenario justifiably selfish :)

It was nice to see some cheap pieces that I still liked, that I knew I could lend to buddies on a semi permanent basis.

Long Time Lurker
Tracking info shows that my package with 2 recyclers from Kathy Hu will be in today. Total shipping time 11 days which is pretty fast. Only 6 days in transit and 5 for handling.

A review and pics as soon as I get them.

I have domestic ($300) and imported frits ($30).
Not overly impress regardless of were it's made!
