What should the "used" herbs look like after a vape session?

I notice sometimes with my ascent vape that when i inhale i hear a little popping sound, and it kind of reminded me of the sounds of burning (although it may just be the ground up pieces of herb moving around). The vape was set to 365 so idk how anything could actually be combusting.

Anyways, I later set the vape to 400 to "extract" as much as I could out of the pack and I decided to examine the left overs the next morning. There is definitely some blackish powder in there, along with mostly dark brown pieces and a few little black pieces. Is this combustion? Would it be better to not grind the herb so much? Little pieces could burn easier I would think. I could just be paranoid.

Does anyone have pictures of what there leftovers look like?

Thanks

i've noticed the popping sound when i use my underdog. always wondered what it was, but i have never combusted when i hear the popping noise or noticed any correlation between the noise and darker or lighter abv.

That sound you hear coming from the Ascent, is the unit making that noise. It's been discussed by Nigel in the Ascent thread. Your herb should be a coffee color with lighter and darker flecks and dry when the herb is spent. If it's a medium brown color it should still be good for edibles.

I start off at anywhere between 375 and 385 and work my way up depending on the herb. If it's too harsh I turn it down. Some are using an o-ring to help with air leakage.

There are several pics throughout the FC threads that shows spent herb. Usually after I use the Ascent for a 12 min session my herb is pretty dark.

I grind my herb to a cornmeal consistency to use with most my vapes.
