Well, I DON'T, actually, but everything I have read, including the "instructions" that come with the Lotus has said that, when used correctly, after a couple uses the center of the plate will discolor and that that is normal.

"NOTE: The hot plate will turn blue with use. This is normal and does not effect the durability or operation of the Lotus."

Every picture I have seen of a Lotus not brand new has shown a discolored plate. I know I may be crazy, but I don't think this belief is an indicator of it.

This is what my plate looks like right now.

My Lotus has seen lots of use pumping out big clouds in the three weeks I've had it. The plate isn't looking blue at all yet. I think it might take a bit longer than you are expecting.

I'll take a picture of my plate today. I have had it for quite some time and I don't think it's dis colored?

Wow, I'm interested to see what your guy's plates look like! Mine has a cruddy donut around the dimples (no discoloration in the center where the flame hits, just outside the circle). Not affecting the functionality, and no cracking of the plate yet after a month of solid use (MANY times per day).

Though I have perfected milking my Lotus to the point where I can typically vape an entire load in almost 1 solid hit. (Sometimes I need to stir and take one short hit to get the rest of the goodness from the herb). Note as some have mentioned on here previously, I use only a small to moderate amount of herb in my WPA - Typically only 1 scoop with the metal Lotus Scoop is sufficient for a quick session.

My stash ran out about 2 weeks ago, and probably got another week until I can restock. But in the meantime I have been using reclaim I had saved up over the past few months on a cotton ball in the lotus and it has completely blown me away. I can not believe how many times I can white wall my bong off a tiny piece. Getting upwards of 10 hits off each load. And getting me more medicated then I have been in over a year. Can't believe how well it works in the lotus.

Edit: my plate also has some discolouring around the outside of the dimple but not affecting performance at all.

Same boat, my stash is running low and payday isn't until Thursday. Been using my pile of reclaim soaked cotton. Normally I only get one or two solid hits from my cotton (changed often) though once I whitewalled constantly until I couldn't handle it anymore! Had to cough and regain composure before I could clear the remaining vapor!

Now I read a lot of persons using reclaim, but personally have not done so since my college years.
I have been reluctant to even try because all my old memories of it were that it tasted awful (note I was still combusting at the time, so it was combustion reclaim).

How does your reclaim taste vs smoking fresh material?
Is there a "best" way to get the goodies and maintain good flavor?

Reclaim is ALOT different from the resin your talking about. It doesn't taste the greatest but it's 10x's better than resin. Should get you just as high as good high quality flowers.

I feel your pain, I would never touch combustion resin unless I was desperate (probably only smoked combustion resin twice in my life). I wouldn't call that reclaim, I call that resin.

Vaping reclaim in cotton doesn't have the wonderful flavorful taste of un-vaped herb, but it's not as miserable as smoking resin! The taste isn't great, but it's bearable. I think I personally prefer vaping reclaim out of water, couldn't imagine with a straight jhook or AL stem, as I've found I need to use a slightly higher temperature to obtain vaping.

However, I have found that the cotton reclaim is 'easier' for a newbie to use, because you literally cannot combust, no matter how hot you get the plate.

But flavor certainly isn't the best, my first attempt at using reclaim cotton reminded me of squishing those horrid smelling stink-bugs. But the effects from that hit were amazing. If you're in a pinch and running low on your stash, reclaim cotton is a GREAT way to get medicated.

My D020 Glass piece was getting hideous with what my friend called 'barnacles' hanging off the showerhead. Annoyed with this crap, I decided to finally try the advice I'd seen countless times on this site - take a small piece of 100% organic cotton and place it in the vapor path below the WPA. I typically put mine in my 18 to 14mm reducer below the WPA. Catches any crap that makes it through the standard size screen, and it turns a nice golden yellow. Meanwhile my D020 remains barnacle free, and the water stays clear much longer than previously.

I think I clean too often to seek reclaim... I hate smoking dirty pieces and they rarely go more than a day or two.

OK, so it appears we are having some definition issues with our plate descriptions. I would consider your plate discolored, but maybe that's just me...

Not as "bad" as some others I've seen (in images), but not pristine by any means. As the "creators" have said (Vigr, is that you?) that is not a problem, but it does seem to be a natural progression.

@VapeNStone ~ I would also consider that discolored. From my understanding, the blue/purple/yellow coloring is from heat, and the darker spots are color from the butane.

@VapeNStone I would also keep a close eye on your plate. Thanks to the clear and high resolution picture you took, I can definitely see you do in fact have a crack developing in the same way that mine started
For reference, call the screw at the top of your picture 12 o'clock. Enlarge the picture, and look closely around 5 o'clock, on the outside of the dimple. Enlarged, it is easier to see the beginnings of your crack.

It likely has no effect on your function yet, but do keep an eye on it. That looks exactly as mine started.

Yea I noticed that right after I took it. I have only had it for a few months so it should be under warranty. Also I was using a dual flame torch for awhile so maybe that is it?

when ya'll talk about putting cotton in the lotus, what are you talking about lol? I'm trying to understand if I can use the Lotus with str8 wax or shatter...

Did you not watch my video? I show exactly what you should do.

I just cleaned my glass and stuck a bit of cotton in my 14/18 reducer (under the PA to catch the reclaim) to see how I like that. You can also use cotton inside the bowl (as shown in the vid a few posts up by vapenstone), with some oil on it. What you need to properly vape oil in the lotus is some kind of surface for it to offer resistance to the heat. I have also used a second SS screen just put oil on the screen and set into bowl at a tilt so part of it is closer to the top, but make sure there are no big gaps. The air path needs some resistance which is what the cotton or extra screen will do, a thin layer of herb also works well.

The reclaim I have been vaping haven't been from the lotus. I clean my bong every use so it doesn't build up. Mine have been from cleaning my ascent stems and EQ elbows. Tho I have been meaning to try putting some cotton in my downstem to see how much I can get that way. Also have tried just using a second screen for vaping the reclaim but didn't have much luck. Guess I'll have to give it another go.

Edit: also the reclaim is very different then combustion resin. Don't care how desperate I was I would never touch that shit again. Tastes like ass and just gonna give you a headache.

Tragedy struck last thursday.

Headed from up to school to graduate I decided to bring along my new lotus and some herb. After being on the highway for 3 hours my GPS died and I missed my exit... which was the last exit before the border... On a divided highway with no turn around. I was forced to go through the border dirty lotus packed away. They searched me... Fortunately/somehow they only found the Lotus, stem, and wpa and nothing else. I ended up getting a warning for it, which I guess is great. But Lotus is gone after ony 5-10 uses due to missing an exit. :'(

It was horrible... Like an hour of stoner jokes, harassment, and interrogation at each border. For my hemp wallet, missing the exit, going down a one way after being told to, not making a u turn where they wanted me to, tieing my shoes, and trying to clean the car, anything and everything I did. Dumped my backpack with my senior project on the floor of my car (broke my extra hard drive in the process), pulled my taped down tissue box off the dash, left my registration along with everything in the glove box all over the floor, put my blankets on the dirty pavement, etc.

Got pulled over a half hour later when the speed limit dropped from 55 to 30 (didn't get a ticket thank god)... It was just an all around bad trip.

I'm currently broke and back at home, but hoping to land a job in the next few months and get my own place. Is their any discount for repeat customers MT? :/

It will be nice when the day comes where we don't have to worry about federal prison for responsibly partaking in something we enjoy in private.

ok i understand how the oil is wrapped in the cotton but why cotton? aren't you breathing in and maybe burning the cotton? is this a special type of cotton?
