The Lotus Vaporizer

Dabs are vapor too!
Well, you folks convinced me to get one  Thanks to all the guys and gals who posted such great reviews, info and tips. I went with ezvapes, due to free shipping and reports here that they shipped fast. I called with a question, and the rep. answered immediately and was helpful. Just a note, they show the old version WPA (the one without the handle or O-rings), but the rep said they continuously get new stock and the one they are shipping is the newest model. Oh, and the coupon code PORT15 still works

How long have you had it?

Two months. Luckily it's still under warranty, but I wish this wasn't such a reoccurring problem with people on here. I switched to a small vector torch which, even at the same flame size, seemed to be a bit hotter then the Honest. That was probably the issue. Maybe Lotus v4 will be able to handle more heat?

Hmmm... I had only seen you and @FlyingLow so far. I must have missed any others. That is mildly discouraging.

I've only seen oklahomie and flyinglow reporting issues, I wouldn't be too concerned right now. Could simply be a factory defect in those plates. I'm playing it safe by buying a backup plate, and inspecting mine daily for any sign of cracks.

Edit, a quick search of this thread reveals the following who've had issues with cracked plates:
@jimbob, @artist, @FlyingLow, @AdventurousMoustache, and @oklahomie - but otherwise, I haven't seen anyone else comment recently...

I feel like I remember a few other people mentioning cracked plates, but maybe I'm wrong.

Think there's any sort of risk using the plate while it's cracked?

I'm starting to get dark vertical horizontal stripes around the edges of the wood piece,
even though I never touch the torch to that part.

Mendo is certainly on top of any premature failures.

More to the point, of all the Lotus sales, there are only about 5-8 failures reported here (including mine). That is going to happen with any vape and I think is no indication of mass failures or a bad batch of Lotus going out. I think it was just chance.

I just happened to open a package from Mendo, and they replaced the plate and replaced the lighter- I am SOOOOOO excited to get this back on some water;)

Happy Vaping!

I had the cracks too. But, no worries people. Mendocino is on it. This is an amazing little vape. And they stand by it. :)

I've been using one of these with pretty consistent results. Nice flame tip and decent tank size.

I still would love a alil handgun with the laser pointer..... I'd never miss the dimple hahahaha :science:

I've been using that same one as my first choice - seems to run a little cooler than my Honest torch, but still rips great! Also extremely reliable, the flame never sputters out (unlike my Honest which sputters once per draw!). However my torch does pulse when it gets below 50% full of fuel. Does yours?

I have been brutal on my plate with no crack problems whatsoever.. We through some hash in it the other day and turned the lighter up.. no scorching, nothing. I think you'd have to use a lighter with more than one jet or use a low flame for extremely too long in order to do any damage to the lotus. It is very well designed.

Haha Yes!! It tends to have a fluctuation in flame tip when its low... But man it certainly rips!

I noticed something too. It seems the only time I combust is when I get greedy chasing vape and I watch the vapor and not the dimple... In my head I'm thinking"Holy shit now she's pulling... just a lil more." then it turns yellow.... womp womp hahah.

Do they correspond with the grain in the wood? (correspond to?)
Whoops I meant horizontal, "the other vertical";)

It's on the edges I took a couple of pics:

just the two top marks, the big 1/2-circle thing on the bottom is a camera shadow

So in answer to your q, no the marks are perpendicular to the grain of the wood.

How about it @Max Jitter, any ideas?

Sorry, I was kinda hoping it might be a "natural" phenomenon...

One last question. The folks who have needed and gotten excellent service/support on their Lotuses (Lotusi ?). Did you all buy direct from Mendocino, or did you buy from a reseller? Just wondering if I might lose some support quality if I buy elsewhere.

Hmmm... Mine has the same charring, also a natural finish.... I assumed it happened the day I got back from the ophthalmologist with my eyes dilated... and I def torched the edge because my depth perception was waaaay off lol

And yes I got my Lotus(Loti?Loteese?Lotice?) direct from Mendocino

Come to think of it I've had the Honest burp a little flame burst too... maybe that can cause it?

Looks like it was accidentally hit by a torch. Other than that, I haven't a clue, especially the burn on the bottom edge.
But speaking of burns, or preventing them, we'll be selling these in a week.

Yeah, that's a few people... It's a little concerning.

I got a replacement hot plate for the 4/20 sale, so now I'm worried that plate might be defective. Hopefully I won't need to use it... Maybe I could just switch it out, and I can be a control? Right now I'm using a plate from December.

Excellent stuff. This should make the device more stealthy for those of us who require this. Not only will we be able to get the Lotus back in our pocket more quickly, it should also soften the outline of the device when carried in a pants pocket.

On another stealth note, I was pleasantly surprised when my Lotus arrived a couple of weeks ago that the Lotus case now only says Lotus rather than Lotus Vaporizer.

Another good option for carrying the Lotus pipe and protecting the plate, I think, is the Vatra 7" Padded Pouch. I tried the Lotus cap attached to the pipe in my 6" pouch and it was perfect apart from not being long enough for the stem. Actually, I'm not entirely sure the Lotus with 6.5" stem will fit in there comfortably, but I do plan on getting one and trying it anyway as there are other things I will use the pouch for if it doesn't work out. Would be great for Cera, PNWT (this fits in the 6" pouch but diagonally) or a VAP2 Straight Shooter I think.

Looks like you definitely hit it with the lighter flame on accident at some point. I did something similar. Adds a little character. Lol

It's almost always best to support the seller directly and it usually results in the best service, one way or another.

I would use it til it breaks and be glad you have a replacement when that happens. The odds of your replacement plate failing immediately are low, when your main plate breaks, order another replacement.. I know I'll always have one on hand :p

I really don't think I hit those spots with my lighter, especially that one that's on the underside.

@grokit ~ The lighting, shadowing and background in the picture really makes it difficult to see much.
I could not tell the shadow from the burn, or the black countertop.

The new plate is breaking in nicely on mine and I notice the following:

a) The lighter they exchanged me for has a remarkably sharper flame and tip.

b) The ABV is far more evenly vaped.

c) The material vapes much slower, allowing more pulls with the same amount of material.

d) I am getting much more consistent vapor, however it is not as thick. I am okay with that, as I am also no longer combusting under the cap:rockon: GAME ON!
