Arizer Solo

OK so I'm pretty sure my unit is toast... The thermostat is going completely haywire. I'll set it to 4 and it will get to temp, then the light will drop down to 1 and it will heat up more, then it will suddenly be at 7 which is confirmed by the hot, harsh vapor. :( This is the same thing it was doing before the reset and cleaning. :rip:

Also, when powering down it is doing the same strobe thing as before but more erratically... Sent a message to the place I bought it from, we'll see what happens next.

Does anyone know if the charge and heat feature has a negative effect on overall battery life? I wouldn't have thought it would, but according to vapefiend.co.uk it does?

I don't think any of us are in a position to really know since they haven't been out very long. And even then getting reliable numbers to compare is not easy since owners will have different patterns of use.

We differ in our assumptions, however. I assume it will since the old scheme (PA) didn't rely on the battery while the 'charge and use at the same time' scheme, unlike a cellphone or laptop, charges the battery for a dozen seconds or so then discharges it (to add to the low power from the charger) to run the heater on the next cycle. That is the battery gets a heavy workout but doesn't end up charged.

In the old scheme you can remove the battery and still run PA mode, no longer possible?

I'm not sure cutting the recharge into little slices changes anything. Using the battery is using the battery and should wear it out faster than not using it.

However, as a practical matter, the new design is all you can buy new, right? It is what it is. Best, I think, to not lose any sleep over it, instead enjoy your Solo? If/when the battery dies, replace it or the whole Solo? A 'back of the envelope' calculation is like ten ounces (300 cycles times 8 sessions per cycle times 1/8 gram per session). Good bud here is like say $15 a gram? So we're talking $4,500 in bud against $200 for a new Solo? 2%? Less than half a percent if you replace the battery?

I've used super fine steel wool to clean out a really dirty Solo bowl

I also recall another fellow saying he'd used steel wool (with ISO IIRC). I think the SS bowl has some sort of passivisation on it (based on the color), did this survive the adventure? TIA

I just sent my newer model Solo back to Puffitup, only had it for 2 months. It had a full charge, but wouldn't heat up. Randy at PIU said it could be the battery. I was sent a return label, no charge for shipping. My older model Solo will have to keep me company for now.

I really didn't use it all the time either, because I still used my other Solo and I have other portables I use.

Fozzie Bear, hopefully you dealt will a reliable vendor.

Hello,

Thanks for the responses. Before I buy one I have two little more questions:
1. When I set it to temp 7 and I press teh up button one more time. Does it go back to temp 1 or does it stays at temp 7?
2. Will the solo also make a beep sound when it reaches the set temp?

Regards

Beeps only when turning on and off or if it shuts off after 12 mins (can turn off the beeps). If its at 7 and you hit up again it will stay at 7 (though never really had to go back to 1-usually it will shut off before the next bowl anyways)

Hey guys and girls!

After using my aromed 4.0 since years I thought it's time for a portable vaporizer and ordered a Arizer Solo at ebay.. They told me it's the M1A4 version and it's supposed to be the newest one. Is this true? What make me wonder is that it's supposed to have a ceramic heating element while I read that the newest versions actually have a steel heating element.

Forget serial numbers, they don't say anything about what revision your Solo is. As far as I can tell if you can charge while you use it without any special power adapter, it's the newer revision. The ceramic heating element only got used in the first or first few production runs. Stainless is just as good for what the Solo is doing with it, so just go ahead and enjoy this portable powerhouse. :)

Ok, Well, I ordered it anyway already, was just curious :-) Now the discussion here about the Solo is pretty long, can anybody tell me about the 'must have' stuff for the Solo? Like Screens and whatever else? I've been looking for the ryot hardcase in black already but it seems like hard to get in europe..

To me, the only real must-have is at least one of Ed's Stems. Wood. Makes all the difference when it comes to portability. Ed is on the forum, so if you cna't find what you looking for on his homepage, just hit him up via PM.

Just got my Solo from Massdrop. Its a Model M1T0. First Sessions went Amazingly well. This is 100x better then the vaperblunt 2.0 DLX i used to use.

The m1t0 is arizers newest batch, well march production. They fixed many issues that occurred in the m1d and m1e which are previous models but still fairly new(cause of the charge n use feature) My m1t0 is a beast. Destroys the m1a4, m1c, m1d and m1e. The stainless bowl holes look a lot bigger than previous models. I think the charge and use was killing the m1d m1e batteries really fast. My m1d died exactly a month after I baught it. Sending it to arizer today, thank god we are in the same province lol

I got the wood stem but not a fan of the extra airflow, with the new solos, the extra airflow will reduce Vapor production unless U constantly have it on 7, but the solo gets extremely hot because of the stainless on the wood. The must have for the solo is the pvhe gong and bubbler/f bomb. Your vape life will never be the same.

How do you know this?

Are you aware that the maker has said the numbers on the bottom aren't model numbers, and won't identify useful information to us?

Are you aware that members have, for instance, reported both old (PA mode possible) and new (can 'use while charging') versions with 'the same model numbers'?

The only sure way to know what you have is to try it I think. See if it will run while charging. I also think the volume of sales and time since the change is such that these days NOBODY is buying a 'new' Solo of the old style? Anyone? And while the jury is still out WRT battery life and the apparent problems with the latest units, I'm not at all sure the new model is all that much to be celebrating......no matter what number is on the bottom.

Q man is right about Ataxian being right here I think.......

Regards to all, my advice is enjoy what you have or search on.

I hope you guys don't actually believe them. Every product in this continent has to have a product number.. I know the m1a/b/c isn't a manufacture part number or they would all b the same. It's a serial key to identify different solos, or when the production was made. Like a vin number for a car. Try and find 2 solos with the exact same number. ^_-

We're not talking serial numbers, those are specific to each unit. We're talking about lot numbers (M1B1, etc) which are just that, lot numbers. M1A1 lot number means nothing now since there's the old ones that don't charge-and-use and M1A1's that do.

"Every product in this continent has to have a product number"???? That's absurd. Show me the model number on the scratch pad I'm holding. Or the screwdriver on the table, or knife in my pocket.

There are a very small number of products that have to carry unique numbers, autos, firearms and 'folding money' come to mind. There are laws there. There are also laws against removing or altering serial numbers if the maker decides to put them on (like say MFLB and Solo do but Vapman and VG don't).

There are lots of vapes out with no numbers or marking of any sort. As well as I would say most of the products for sale???? Arizer is under no requirement here to do anything past label the country of origin AFAIK. And that only because it's imported. No number of any sort required. Can you show otherwise?

Otherwise, numbers are under the control of the maker. Yes, I believe that because that's what my experience tells me. As I've said here before, I've worked for a company that purposely put out 'false' numbers (start other than zero for a new model, don't use each number is sequence.

Call the maker and the members who report that the model number on the bottom doesn't determine which model liars if you wish, but you should have something to back that up I think.

Agreed ,
They're just VIN # 's .
No 2 VIN are exactly the same .
Sure maybe the first several characters are the same , ie M1A4
but there are 6 digit numerals that follow . I believe that's why Arizer takes the time and resources to apply a different sticker
on every one .

They do Not reflect different models/versions .
They're just ID Serial #'s .

So far , my new M1A4 hasn't acted up .
No dancing lights or heating up issues .
I haven't seen any reports of problems with the M1T's tho .

Well said. I couldn't of explained it better. My friends m1a4 is a workhorse also to be fair. He got it first out of all of us and it's still working strong, while the rest of us got m1c, m1d and m1e which we ran into battery issues under one month of heavy use. The m1a4 set the standards for us, (after hitting my buddy's m1a4 I went to buy my first vape, m1d solo) and i felt my solo(m1d) wasn't producing as much as my friends m1a4. My other friend says the same about his m1c2 model, that it's not producing like the m1a4. Since the m1d died I purchased another for back up which is the m1t model I've read people receiving from arizer recently as replacement and it's selling in the uk as March-April 2014 production. My first stem on 4-5 and I knew it was producing so much better. The holes in the bowl are slightly bigger aswell comparing to the m1d. Number 5 on my m1t is like number 6 on the m1d.

Propaganja,
I purchased the M1E about 3 months ago and it recently just died on me. Pretty much the unit would not heat up and the blue idle light would flash rapidly. Contacted arizer and they sent out a new one which is a M1Y. I just hope this one doesn't die on me either. The vapor quality is almost identical to my previous unit, only downside is I believe that the "new" unit they sent me is refurbished, the up/down buttons are a bit lose and the overall feel of the unit is not as solid as the first one i bought. I heard this only happens to the M1E models. Can anyone confirm this please?
