What was it that you found?

I was on my way to HD when I got called into a job...

Hopefully I will have a chance to put together something for tomorrow.

Found this...

This is the piece I found. Almost complete as far as PVC parts right here by itself. The middle piece comes out completely, planned on tossing it. That leaves the bottom two pieces of the pic, the main body and cap. The cap is threaded and is 1/2 of a decent sized chamber... the other 1/2 is the body. Both ends of this chamber have a "ledge" so could accommodate a screen and I planned on housing charcoal in there. The main body, which had ledges and would also accommodate screens I planned on inserting a few dryer sheets.

What issue did I have? I wanted to cap both ends. To make a completely sealed unit, even if by press fittings, so the unit would not be filtering ambient air or losing its potency just sitting around. (Hell, for all I know, sitting around the charcoal may absorb the scent from the dryer sheets). Anyhow, I couldn't find a cap for the bottom end (or what I'd consider the mouthpiece).

Am going to revisit this, but at a different hardware store.

Good luck!

Have any of y'all used both a Smoke Buddy and one of those PVC homemade devices? I've seen vids of someone using a Smoke Buddy, and *nothing* can be seen coming out of it, even in very bright light. Is that the case with the homemade devices too? Or can you see stuff coming out but it doesn't smell? How about those gas mask filters--can you see anything coming out?

I have a Smoke Buddy and I've used a homemade PVC device. You're right, nothing comes out of the smoke buddy. The homemade device I used had the slightest bit of vapor coming out the end but it was odorless.

I barely use the Smoke Buddy because I just exhale vapor through a window fan. If you have a window that can fit one of these fans I HIGHLY recommend it.

This is an awesome thread! I've made activated carbon spoof tubes before using 1/2 of a plastic water bottle with a knee-high stocking rolled over it to keep the bits in. Cheap, easy and more durable than a TP tube. Incidentally, one of those knee highs or a bit of just knotted nylon makes a great bag for your activated carbon in whatever you put it in. When the carbon wears out, you just pull out the nylon sack and toss the whole thing.

I love the "deluxe" PVC pipe version and the gas mask filter idea! I'm going to try both of these out.

Nice tip regarding the nylon stocking! :clap: Forgot about those completely!

(Used to use the material to surround catfish bait on treble hooks. Catfish love to just sit an nibble on the bait, effectively picking it off the hook. With the mesh surrounding the bait, they couldn't so did what came next and swallowed the whole thing!)

While were off topic, does smoking a fish violate any FC beliefs? LoL :rofl:

Yeah, I had to go there!

mmmm mmm

So DDave, any progression on you sploof?

@nishidake

Welcome!

So I've come up with my PNP portable battery charger/operating power source, and haven't had time to invest on the sploof.

Next up, will be my Solo portable battery charger/operating power source.

Then after that, will be my sploof.

I was in a situation recently where this was needed and I had 2 options..vape oil or flowers. Well the oil is no problem because a single dab doesn't smell. I vaped flowers blowing through a tube with dryer sheets and shortly after heard "it smells like weed" so if you need to be super stealthy vape oil.

So what is the consensus from this thread? I have my man cave room where I do my vaping and no one else is allowed but there is always a little bit of smell that escapes that I would like to eliminate. The smoke buddy seems like a great option but I can't figure out how long they last so would like a cheaper option.

@John Lewus,
So many things that you can do:
Making your own sploof is cheaper than the smoke buddy.
In order to address the escaping smell, you can consider installing an exhaust fan in the cave.
@BarnBoy has also used e-cig juice in order to mask the smell in situations that required ultimate stealth.
