Question for the W9 gurus out there: has anyone tried the Herc on a vv/vw mod instead of the Persei head/tube? I know W9 makes a 510 to 601 adapter but do they make a 601 to 510?

I have a DNA30 mod on the way, and was just curious what a Herc could do with that kind of power under her (up to 8.3v/30w).

Edit: is the Iris basically a mod similar to what i am referring to? Or is it something else entirely?

Iris down regulates (buck), whereas the DNA30 up-regulates (boost). I haven't had a VV/VW mod that can handle .8ohms (3.7v black rod) but I believe the DNA30 can. I am also waiting on my DNA30 to try out the herc with it.

just interested, why do you think the DNA30 will run the 3.7v herc? i had been messing around with the 3.7v on several vv mods and all indicated "short". a pure mechanical mod will do it no problem

Most VV/VW mods on the market cannot handle the sub-ohm resistance of the black rod. This is built-in to the boards they use in order to protect it from over-current. The DNA30 can handle down to .5ohm and a maximum of 3.0 ohms.

The Iris is purpose built to work with the Hercules in mind.

As for the others the weak point is going to be the batteries and how well they handle the needed current.

Boosting isnt something i like because it drains the batteries really fast, but buck designs pro long the life of the battery greatly.

If I purchased a new warranty for a double top does that warranty then last another year? Or do I have to buy it each time one gets serviced.

If I have to purchase the warranty each time the unit gets sent in, i'll be pretty upset that I didn't take the 3 kiss carts since those were being offered for free, but I had to purchase a warranty to get my top replaced

So you had a choice between getting the top serviced and kiss carts? They just sent me the carts I would have much rather have had my top repaired.

There is no warranty for the double top.

@itschad

Once the service fee is paid the work and product have another years worth of free service. Example.

Persei is more then 2 years old.

Needs service. You purchase the service send it in, and we send you a completely refurbished to new specs Persei. What this does it also gives you a 1 year free service calls if you ever need it.

As for the double tops they are no longer being supported and only way we can help you out is if we do a trade.

Sorry, I thought he was saying that this had already happened.

I use an Iris to run my SR-71 at about 6.7v and 30w. I think the DNA will run it.

thats input voltage of 7.4v or greater, your just bucking the system to reduce the voltage to 6.7v on two batteries

but with a boost system you start out at 3.7v and then start putting strain on the battery to produce 30 watts.

The idea is 30 watts with 7.4v input is better then achieving 30 watts with 3.7v

Very true, the DNA will burn through your batteries. But companies are in a pissing contest to see who can get the most out of their 18650's. The 18350's are limited in their capacity and load and there doesnt seem to be much development on them, so hopefully in the future we will see higher capacity 18650s designed to be used with 30W+.

Do not run batteries or any electronic device over it's specified voltage unless you want to risk damaging it and certainly reduce it's usable life.

This is as true of microprocessors as it is of batteries!

New guy, 2 nights of reading through this forum, still a little overwhelmed, I've used a desktop with flower for a couple years, recently have started enjoying wax, bought an atmos pen, an older model, coil burnt out quickly, just recently bought a microG, which sux pretty much. I want a quality pen vape, for wax, that I can load up and get a good quantity of hits before I have to reload or clean, I'm a gadget guy and have electronics background, is this persei with kiss what im looking for? Or is this a little much? I want some quality, but don't want to buy something that's way more than what I need, thanks for any suggestions!

@THC SCIENTIFIC has something at every price point man, check out their other vapes if you think the Persei is too pricey for your needs. The Persei is much more versatile than the two entry level vapes W9 sell, and somewhat more versatile than the Omicron. It did take a long time admittedly to get my head around the various features and differences between w9 vapes, but I am convinced that whichever pen you buy, it should be from these guys. Each device is designed with safe and high quality components, and whilst mistakes can be made, service from w9 is incredible! :)

By the way, where does one buy an Iris? Why are there none on the W9 site?

Thanks, cost isn't too big of a deal, I guess though if I want to expand later, maybe I should just go ahead and get the Caddy now, I'll keep researching for a couple. ...

That's what I ended up deciding man :) I am sure we'll both be satisfied!

Wait, I just found a post back on page 410 of @ataxian saying what I take to mean that you can vape kief pellets in the herc sr71, does this apply to the sr74? If so, I'm adding one to my persei order no question! Would my favourite mixture of viscous QWISO with kief until like play dough work well in a herc? Would it also work in kiss carts? Is there one which is better for this? Am I just dreaming and is none of this actually possible? Could I possibly think of more questions?

Just one:

How do you Persei owners manage not to oil yourselves up everywhere you go (pun intended)?
