The Lotus Vaporizer

My grandpa saw my lotus when i still had it and asked what my special smoking pipe was for. He's not in the loop about anything. Imagine what a customs officer thinks when he opens a "kitchenware" box to find a smoking pipe? That company that sent it is fucked.

I'm giving up on this bro, it's like i just need to shut up and go on with this?
This is the first time i encountered such a problem am i not allowed to say something??
Sorry but at the end of the day customer is king and they need to make their customers happy..
It's because of people that never say something and never complain that company's begin to take advantage of this.

@ vorrange I also rate bad customer service for being rude and ignoring me on my last mail.. Well you never know how much duty you need to pay untill you receive it ($70)..

Don't use crappy butane best value in UK seems to be Newport in multi packs off Amazon.

I'd also look at at least 1 back up torch lighter

I love the Lotus it's just loads of fun learning I've now got a technique that seems to suit me 2 flavour hits 2 medium cloud hits 2 high cloud hits then it's usually done by then.

Thank for the advice cityslang! I already purchased a newport bottle, it's the only one they are selling here in my local shop.

Purchased also couple of honest lighter from fasttech very cheap and working great! Look pic below.

I'd really love the glass hook version but I'm likely to break it by dropping it bet it tastes great. I keep meaning to taste the delights of the solo again but the lotus is just too easy and convenient I can't imagine a better vape for me I like to take my vape up to the popcorn levels and this does it so well.

I've not seen newport in any shops but on amazon 1 got 12 x 250 ml for 12 quids.

I also find leaving the lighter in my trouser pocket between vapes makes a lighter perform better even at cool room temp the jet lighters improve with a 10 minute trouser warm up :o

Yeah i also still prefer the taste on my solo, the lotus is easy to use and no battery or power required, just a torch lighter and butane.
But you need to watch out cause you can combust if you warm too much or too long which was the case with my friends lotus.
Really thick yellowish smoke coming out of his glass pipe and it was disgusting, told him to watch out with his flame and timing lol..
So luckily i didn't combust yet but i don't like to take it up to popcorn taste anyway.., better save it and use it for edibles.
And i'm getting potent hits, a very good high from golden brown AVB. Still has that new taste on the vaporcap though..
Yes you need to watch out with the glass,, purchased a spare j hook from dhgate really cheap ($2-$4) just in case i break one.

Ok, two sesh's with my lotus.

Pre sesh:
I had my lotus delivered to my buddy;s house. He tried it a few times and hasn't gotten too high, he says due to his technique.

I receive my lotus. it seems they have lost the lighter. Well I still have my lighters... except my girlfriend used all the fule in one and i don't wont to dig for the other.

Sesh One: I refill and adjust my lighter. I was lazy so i didn't bleed the air. I begin vaping. Meh. Better vapor from my mflb. Im outside. Its cold and windy. Lighter stops working. So I fiddle around and it my lighter stops working. So i go inside and get the fuel adjustment upp. Parents come home and activity seizes.

Second sesh here: So after about 20 minutes of fiddling, I get my lotus vector slim lighter to work. So i'm thinking about pellets and the world. And how cold the floor is. And passive solar heat and insulation passive(open windows/draft) vs active/reclaiming (special HVAC) has us. and a homes mass. And it hits me... one harsh hit and i'm really stoned. Once I got the torch hot and aimed my lighter it worked well.

So yea kiddo's it works well my my fellow cheddar fish.

Seriously though; one hit, no tolerance and four beers... damn.

Im sorry, it's awesome. I kinda abandoned the forms for a bit when I got a Da Buddha. But I never really loved it, so i came back searching for a better answer. And i appologize for the grammar, It's just more fit to what are speech volume would be. Imagine mapping our voice to a transcription of our voice and making the different letters different font size depending on the decibal of our voice.

Also, used it with a magic flight finishing grinder. Fine fine grind.

Yea, I just came home from college. I'm a senior and hopefully getting a full time job soon. But yea... for now, back with my parents. fingers crossed on a job and coming across some cheap land.

Also, built my first vape when i was pretty young and was originally interested in it as an extraction technique... Think vape oil + condeser = mj distillery?

I have been watching this thread pretty closely for the last few months. I immediately loved the minimalist concept and design from the first time I saw it. I also was very impressed with the reviews from FC forum members who have experience with a wide variety of devices. But in response to a particularly intense episode of VAS that I experienced in the second half of 2013, I decided to make a New Year's Resolution not to buy any vaporizers or glass in 2014...

so naturally, I convinced a friend to buy one. seriously though, he is one of those who is aware of the benefits of vaporizing and actually owns and uses a decent vape (Arizer EQ) but still enjoys the ritual of smoking, particularly the fire aspect, especially in a party/social atmosphere. so I figured this would be a great option for him to reap the benefits while keeping his fire ritual. also, this gives me a chance to test drive the lotus lol :science:

so we just finished our first sessions with both his J-hook and my Mobius Ion about an hour ago. I was really impressed by the vapor quality and medicating effect, and I know that I don't even really know how to use it yet. this thing is underrated. great flavor and extraction. and I absolutely love the form factor and intuitive design. definitely buying one of these on 1/1/15

Haha, I love reading posts like this. Having a proper torch and learning the proper technique is very important. Boy am I so glad I didn't start smoking until after I had already moved out of my parent's house! Can't imagine the hassle of hiding from them - it's not like you can easily cover up that aroma!

Indeed the minimalist design of the Lotus was a major deciding factor for me - My DV ascent had failed and I said "F-it, I need something simple and reliable!" - the Lotus fits the bill nicely. And with a spare nickle heat plate and extra torches, the Lotus should last a long time! Or at least until I can afford to feed my VAS addiction some more with a new vape!

I've kinda turned the Lotus vaping into a game with my combusting friends. Taking turns hitting the Lotus, while comparing how evenly the load is cooked. Scorch/blacken the load on only one side, loose a turn.

Sorry you have to wait another 7 months before you can buy a Lotus! Maybe by then the Lotus v4 will be released!

This thing hit's awesome when the correct technique is used! Vapor seems to have a dry, pure, borderline combustion taste. I like it.

I've found i really like:
- that the stem sits flat when not in use
- the cap seems to contain a lot of the smell
- strong effect

So far I dislike:
- the torch lighter has been a pain so far. A friend lost one. I purchased a nice one (Vector), and it been troublesome (valve sticks closed). :/

Notes:
- already chipped a bit of paint on the cap in storage or one of the three sessions it's seen
- the stem doesn't show any scratches yet
- stem hit's pretty cool.
- my lighter uses fuel pretty quick. Hopefully once i fix it and refine my technique i'll use less.
- lighter is pretty loud...

I would like to see:
An aluminum lotus stem that is a bubbler.

Well as long as that works for you go for it but that doesn't sound like the correct technique at all. I get extremely flavorful hits that taste just like the weed smells. Obviously tastier at the beginning but you get the point. Maybe your flame is too big? Or your still not drawing hard enough?

Yea, my technique could definitely use improvements. My herb was also a good but less fragrant strain and a bit old.

I think my flame was at the right height. What (flame to plate) angle do you guys use? I've been using close to a 90 degree angle.Do you circle around the outside of the plate flower or just leave the flame hitting the middle? I don't wanna char my wood underneath, but it seems like it works better when i circle the outside.

I don't go by "height" - I go off the sound - when the inner point of the torch touches the plate, you will hear the sound changes. It sounds much louder when the inner flame touches the plate. I use this to help control the flame when I'm out in sunlight and can hardly see it!

Angle doesn't matter - but I actually keep my lighter moreso upright because I have a 15 degree angled male to female adapter for my glass piece (helps me angle the lotus so I can keep my torch slightly upright).

You want to keep the flame in the middle, but not directly in the middle, instead, dance your torch slowly in a small circle around the middle of the plate (As a general rule, I try to never let my flame touch the ridges in that nickle plate).

@pjwalm

I think most people develop a personal style on the lotus which you can as it's versatile but main thing is not to stray too far from the centre with the flame and don't make it glow too much once the centre glows circle the flame and take a long fat hit the spot doesn't glow and you get a great hit imo.

If you heat it less on the first 2 vapes and less next bowl if you over cook it is the way to get the knack of flavoursome vape.

My style is 2 to 3 light vapes
2 to 3 medium vapes and a couple of heavy vapes and pretty much the herb is done I generally stir between each stage.

Keep going you'll get there it took me a few weeks to start to get the hang of it.

As said before get a lighter that works for you and use quality butane.

Team NO SLEEP!
I have finally been learning the differences between the Lotus and Hammer, and there are several areas where the Lotus greatly out-performs the hammer.

I feel the Lotus is actually tougher, the Hammer's glass stems just seem so fragile but I have not dropped one yet. The most important trait, is that while the Lotus is also Butane, there is no butane aroma. Hammer, while an excellent device, offensively stinks to high hell by comparison.

It should be noted I find they both are heavy hitters, depending on your technique. I am kinda favoring the Hammer's more forgivable user qualities and seems less likely to combust; but I think Lotus will remain my daily driver and indoor piece, leaving the hammer to use in more ventilated areas.

Hey everyone,

I ordered a Lotus on Thursday and was surprised to see it arrived today - very quick shipping from California to Canada which was nice.

But now I'm having an issue that's got me real bummed out - no matter what I try I can't fill the torch with butane. I hope I'm just making some kind of obvious novice mistake.. could somebody clue me in to what that might be? I've depressed the inlet to clear it of any air, and tried turning it both all the way clockwise and counterclockwise, but whenever I turn it upside down and try to fill it butane just comes spraying from the top of the can. I've tried about 10 times now and the same thing happens no matter how I adjust the technique.

Is this more likely an issue with the butane I bought, or is it possible the torch I was sent is simply broken/defective/useless?

Thanks in advance - I'm really looking forward to trying this thing out and am pretty frustrated that I can only look at it right now.

EDIT: Indeed I was making a novice mistake - all I needed to do was pry off one of the plastic nozzles attached to the underside of the cap and use that - Thanks to Steve for contacting me back very quickly.

Definitely excited to take it for a spin. It's a beaut for sure:love:.

Do you fill with the can without any adapter and the valve of the lighter pointing up to the sky and the can pointing down all at 90 degrees when filling?

Turns out I actually needed an adapter of sorts - one of the nozzles on the underside of my butane can's lid fit the port on the bottom of the lighter and that prevented the butane from spraying everywhere (mostly).

Don't feel bad, I had this SAME issue with my lighter. Fortunately, I had some Ronson butane (low quality butane) which had a universal nozzle that did fit my torch. Until I figured out how to use the tip adapters ha ha

Luckily your only issue so far has been the torch - you probably will become addicted to purchasing torch lighters until you find the *perfect* torch for your Lotus. (Torch #3 is already in the mail from China, ha ha)

I'll have to buckle down and read through the entire thread, because I think I only got to page 15 before I wandered off. I recall something about dual-flame torch potentially getting the job done faster.

I'm chuffed I got it working because I think I really, really like this thing.

I need some more time to get acquainted with it for sure, but I am already enamoured with its simplicity and effectiveness. It has also provided me with the tastiest initial hit of any vape I've ever used so that's a nice surprise.

I wanted something I could take and use reliably away from civilization for extended periods of time, and it doesn't hurt that I really like its aesthetic. Still need to refine my technique, though - the Solo's ease of use is hard to beat, but I can definitely see myself using this more than I had anticipated.

There are several discussions on lighters over the last 30 odd pages I'd be wary of dual/triple flame ones they may cause overheating of the plate.
