Throat itch and cough

So while I have been vaping the vapor has been making my throat feel weird and it makes me cough a lot to the point where I get nauseous.

I'm not sure if this means I should take small quick hits or small slow hits?

Might help to know more info.

What vape are you using? Dry only or does it bother you through water too? Does it matter what type of herb you use? Are you even vaping herb? If you do, do you grind? What heat level setting are you using if your vape has adjustable heat/power settings? Whats your vaping routine like?

Etc...

As I said there's a lot more info we need in order to properly help you.

1. Davinci ascent anywhere from 365-380 grinded
Long slow draws

2. Non grinded herb through Bags from herbal aire at 360 long slow draws I have only done this once and even 2 hours after session felt really nauseous not sure if it's from vape or I just wasn't feeling good

Suggestions?

Excessive coughing gives me an upset stomach too. Have you tried water conditioning your vapor? It helps a lot, especially when using warm water.

You would water condition it by running your vapor through a water tool like a bong or bubbler. It needent be anything expensive. If you look through the Glass section here on FC you will see some threads dedicated to inexpensive, quality glass. There are quite a few really good options to be had for well under $50 including shipping. In fact the most popular piece on FC, the D020 from DHGate is something like $28 shipped.

You would also need an adapter to attach your vape to the glass piece as well. I dont own an Ascent but I know adapters exist. May want to ask about that in the Ascent thread.

As for how long the nausea lasts... it depends. Sometimes until I throw up. Usually until I get enough THC in my system to counteract it. I also find taking an ice cold shower gets rid of it almost instantly. The brain gates discomfort in order if priority. If your brain thinks your in cold ass water it thinks you're in danger and youll "forget" all about being nauseated. At least that works for me anyway.

Wow, you must be really coughing to feel like throwing up man! Heat and water are big factors, as Caligula says. The other thing is that we often like to take gargantuan hits (especially those who used to combust using water tools!) when vaping. Large hits of dry vapor can be especially good at making you cough a lot compared to combustion smoke. Vaporizing seems to be a bit harsher dry for me than smoking.

Caligula is spot on, use water for higher heats when vaping. I find that if I vape dry at the heat range you are doing through your ascent, I will cough a lot using a shorter vapor path (ie: the Nano dry stem I have) vs a longer dry pipe (Gspot Steamroller) with roughly the same sized hits on each. I am given to understand that the Ascent stem is shorter than the Nano stem, so might be harsher still at your set heat than my Nano stem even. I also find I need to not take in quite so big hits when doing dry vaping at this temperature as what I would with water.

There are loads more factors that could contribute to this scenario you have found yourself in, Caligula did a good job of outlining plenty of others.

Don't worry though, it's all about finding your groove with the vape, practice makes perfect :D

So without a water tool and still using bags would shorter hits be better?
Also with water tools the vapor thins but does the thc thin as well?

short puffs (don't absolutely vacuum the stem clean, just puff like a j or cigar, occasionally taking deeper inhalations but not for too long). I find I can handle heats like you use on your ascent but only if I do this technique. Everyone will have different experiences though!

Salutations Herbivore21,

Heat and water are big factors... Don't worry though, it's all about finding your groove with the vape...

Sometimes one never finds the correct "groove", for example i've been an HerbalAire v2.1 user for nearly 25 months, one who switched to a moddified VaporGenie pipe in March last year: after i tried my best at electric vaporisation vs moisturization it finally appeared that a butane-operated VG solution was much better suited for my needs. My learning curve got significantly steeper though, like it took a year instead of 10 days to acquire ritual with butane.

Using my HerbalAire heat has never been an issue, certainly not with sufficient tubing and even less with bags. The pipe required an extension tube to provide eye-contact on my flame in order to avoid touching anything, etc. Cooling came as a bonus but it would be true to point out my replacement mouthpiece for the VG insulates better too...

:peace:

I think it best to vape a bowl at low temp first. Go low, and set back for 20 minutes of so. Then regrind (really, I just smash in the palm of my hand because I'm a slob), and revape at med-high. I find if I go straight to a high temp, say 425 F., the vape can feel like I'm breathing glass, but some low passes at 360 first always lessened the chance of coughing. YMMV

Oh I Member
Aside from what everybody else has stated, try taking a cough drop like twenty minutes before you start vaping. That usually helped my throat.

Coughing is the body's natural response to removing something from the lungs that it doesn't want to be there ....in our case, too much vapour or cannabis particulate.

Using fine scales you can establish how much ground weed your lungs can handle in one load without coughing, once you have this dialled in, you can simply measure out the dose every time, personally I use a set of minute spoons which allow me to quickly create weed doses which are 0.01g accurate.

Rather than doing one big hit, do lots of little hits.

Once you have this established you can move onto water filtration which might allow you to increase the load further without the usual coughing.
