E-Cig based vape pens? Oils only? Wax?

I'm a bit of a noob to the ecig like vape pens. Looked at them some last time i was in the smoke shop.

Are they only for using with flavored oils/extracts cartridges?

Do any work with wax concentrates? Are these what the kids are calling dabs?

All I really have heard is most 'vape pens' do not do flower w/o burning them easily.

I'm considering trying a disposable vape pen from the store just to get a better idea how they work and what they do and whats 'inside'.
But there seem to be so many variations and not sure if they all do or use the same material (ie wax/oil carts/etc)?

Can the oil be created in the home, or is there some sophisticated extraction method required like BHO? I'd rather not have to rely on the store for some special product is all.


I have no interest in flavored vapor or nicotine, this would ONLY be for cannabis products.

There are two main varieties of ecig cannabis attachments that I am aware of. The first, and less common, is for flower/herb. The latter is for "wax" or "oil" style concentrate hashes (I.E. BHO). You CAN make concentrates at home, but it requires setup and knowledge to do SAFELY. There are thousands of posts on this forum about both styles of vape pen and producing concentrates.

Thanks for the response. Figured out a little more. I am familiar with some concentrate methods, however I meant to refer to the "essential oils", like those flavored nicotine, but instead a cannabis extract. Yeah, I dunno what those are called, cartomizer??

I ordered an mCig to do a bit more playing/learning on the "pen" vape scene. Plan to mod with a screen above the heating element, to help keep herbs from burning.
Anything will be nicer than dealing w/ a stinky joint in a back pack while I'm out.

Get ready to wait AT LEAST a month to get your m-cig. I though it would be a nice throw away unit to try for 10 bucks so I got 2 and Ill hit the month waiting limit in about 3 days.

yeah. i was wondering. yesterday i did get a confirmation with usps info, but the tracking info has yet to update.

from some other reading i was seeing there seems to be a long wait time..
