when you get it new it's on medium (orange) that's default.
The temperature will stay on whatever you put it on until you change it manually.
low-yellow
med-orange
high-red

I bought mine as a fake but everything seems like the true one, finish, party mode, lights colors and performances (just the lub miss) and I like it, I prefer to vape on higher level so I haven't to wait for the green light to take a draw.

I clean it every 10-15 bowls (without take off the spring) and just after cleaning I get the "temp light issue", I clean it as recomended, I try to clean very good where the mp is connect to the tube, but it don't help...

If you don't wait for the light to turn green, the oven hasn't reached operating temperature yet. it only takes 30-40 seconds to reach temp. you should wait for green.

Pax homies!
Ive been following this thread for a couple weeks now but not thoroughly. I'm in the market for a new portable and the pax intrigues me the most. My worries are the complaints I've been reading about the pax wasting flower, vapour quality, and strict warranty claims. Could you pax owners fill me in on your opinions?

My worries are the complaints I've been reading about the pax wasting flower, vapour quality, and strict warranty claims.

Whether or not the Pax wastes flower depends on the user, in my opinion. It does require a pretty decent amount of herb to fill the oven and function properly (.4-.5g normally, or .2-.3g using the screen method.) So if you don't plan to make use of all that you put in the oven within two or three sessions, then you'll essentially be wasting what's left over. I've found that the amount of vapor production/leakage while not inhaling to be pretty insignificant.

Vapor quality seems to be dependent on the grind consistency. If the herb is finely, consistently ground and firmly packed into the oven, then the vapor will be pure and thick on every single draw. The Pax lets you milk the herb for all it's got, so the more depleted the herb becomes, the vapor and taste will lessen in quality. As far as the taste in general, it's really based on personal preference and nearly impossible to gauge off others' opinions. That being said.. I enjoy it. I find it to be smooth, cool, and flavorful. Perhaps not as flavorful as the Firefly, but still good.

As for the warranty claims, I don't know. It's performed flawlessly every day for the past few months I've owned it.

Using the half pack screen method not only conserves herb, it allows airflow under the herb and has a little less draw resistance. Its proven to me to not only hit better, but taste better, last longer (with intermitting chamber stirs, the PAXs oven does not heat evenly like the India) and get great vapor on lower temperatures.
I use a 4 piece large space case, then throw it in my RYOT sifter, get some kief, and let it dry out a bit.
Give it a try! I would love to hear your comparison!
I get 12 nice hits on low, then 12 on med with .1g.

The only critical feedback I have is the amount of maintenance required. It was my only vape for a while, and using it multiple times a day meant cleaning it daily, which was a pain.

The vapor is good, flavor is good for the first couple hits, and its quality made. Kind of pricey, I think there are better pieces for less. Not having a water tube solution blows too.

Are you charging your PAX mouthpiece up charger on top?
This is crucial for keeping your PAX clean and cutting way down on maintenance. Youll clean it every week or every other week, depending on how often you use it.
You can adapt a water tube to the PAX but its not really beneficial.
For great hits from the pax, take the plastic mouthpiece off the metal stem. Adapt a MFLB stem with a piece of silicone. It makes it a straight shot straight from the oven. Amazing hits.

resinberg!

Party mode is a function that deactivates the auto shutoff.
On party mode it stays on until you turn it off.
If you have a newer version, it has simon says on it.
To activate simon, turn on the PAX.
Hold it like a dubie.
rotate it like your rolling a dubie 5 times and it will go into party mode.
rotate it 8 more times and you can play simon. a white light will flash 2 times, then it will start flashing different colors.
Simply tilt the PAX in each direction for the different colors.
It shuts off the oven when your playing simon. you can tell if you pull the mouthpiece out the X is blue.

Just to jump off the current topic for a bit and would like to find out if anyone has tried using a 3.5mm barrel jack 5v DC power to USB cable, coupled with a portable power bank on the 1amp output to connect to the pax charging dock to charge the pax?

Something like this? http://www.amazon.com/HDE®-3-5mm-Barrel-Power-Cable/dp/B003059FAI

I'm quite a heavy user with pipe tobacco and it'll only last me till mid afternoon. I'm usually on the move and will not be able to charge it with the car charger all the time.

Wonder if that'll extend my pax time. :)

Yes, I have a power bank i bought from fasttech.com. it has 2 usb outs, 1a & 2a at 5volts, it also has a barrel out put plug that you can adjust from 5-13 volts. I got connectors from radio shack for every vape i own. it takes 4 3400Mah 18650 batteries. they are run in parallel so you can use 1, 2, 3, or 4 batteries. its made by Qidian and was only $17 plus $40 for panasonic pcb batteries. its from Hong Kong so they can't ship batteries. out also has an overload protection. 13,200Mah lasts a long time. I can charge my solo @ 12v with this beast.
nice not to have a dozen chargers hooked up. you also charge the power banks batteries through included mini USB cord. very convenient.

I've heard nothing but good things about their warranty service so long as it's an original pax. I actually just sent mine in. I've been having issues with getting the screen to sit securely. Like it would take me over thirty minutes to get the screen right for a ten minute session lol. It just Wouldn't sit right, would move back and forth and if I did happen to get it secure, it wOuld pop out randomly or whenever I applied the slightest bit of pressure to pack down what's in there. Then all my weed would be in my lap because the Damn screen popped out. Even tried new screens. The guy thinks I might've got a defective unit with the measurements wrong in the oven so they sent me a prepaid label to send it in. I shipped it yesterday, will keep you guys posted on what happens but from my experience so far, the service is legit. He even said they'd accommodate me with a new colOr if I wanted one in the event they need to replace it. No complaints so far

hey guys, great thread! I found a seller on ebay (I'm from europe…) that claims he sells original Pax by Ploom vaporizers. He also said, that the lights are green, red and yellow for charging. Price is 200€ incl. shipping. Seems quite legit to me, but maybe someone here can tell if its a fake or not.

looks real. has the right texture to it, torx screw on the back, and a serial number. looks like a legit pax screen too. I'd veture to say its real if the lights correspond too.
with the lights,
orange-charging on the dock, green when done.
low temp-yellow
med temp-orange
hi temp-red.
charging to temp for use-purple.
selected temp reached-green
I just hope you receive what he claims. That really sucks its so tough for you guys to acquire a real pax from your local shops.

thanks for the answer! i guess i'll give it a try. if it turns out to be a counterfeit, there's still the option to demand the money back through paypal… hopefully ploom will also ship to europe in the near future, their products really stand out between all those portable vaporizers imo.

No problem. paying with Paypal is a good idea. They will keep you from losing your money if it is not what was described.
Although i do not condone buying it 3rd party, you have no other choice.
That being said, I hope you get a real one, you will absolutely love it.
Hopefully Ploom will start shipping internationally soon, they definitely have the demand for it.

I think for 200 USD it's better before to send an e-mail to Ploom to ask if this seller is an authorized seller and if it carry the warranty cause for this price it's better to get the warranty too....

If you don't care about warranty you can find Pax with all goods light (as Vape dr explain before), good texture and work fine (but I never try a "real" one so....) for less than 100 usd (shipping included)

IDK if it's a true or a fake but I think it's not a true cause I don't get any sort of warranty (though the seller claim 6 months...) and no lubricant (minor issue) but if it's a fake they made a good job cause finish is very nice and it works well...

Just for info

PPN is right, why would they offer you a 6 month warranty when PAX has a 10 year warranty.
Ploom always gives you mouthpiece lubricant as well. Even when you send yours in for warranty.

All Ploom requires is your unit and charger be shipped to them.
From my experience with a Ploom warranty, they sent me a brand new unit with all the cleaning supplies and mouthpiece lubricant.

Be careful of the ones I've seen going around that put a little extension on the first "o".
At first it looks like Ploom but it actually says Plaom. If you look at the Ploom logo you can better understand what I'm saying.

But your situation being what it is, its a crap shoot.
I'd say if it says PAX by Ploom and your going through paypal....do it.
If it ends up being real your golden.
If it ends up being fake, you'll get your money back from Paypal hassle free.

For what its worth, I actually know a few people that got real PAXs on Ebay. I also know someone who got a fake one and Paypal put a dispute in, they had their money back in their account in a couple days.

Best of luck to you. I hope you get a real one because fake ones are paper weights and give real PAXs a bad rap.

Also, I've posted before. The mouthpiece lubricant is food grade propylene glycol (PG) and can be found at any E-Cig based vapor shop for $1 an ounce. So that shouldn't be an issue if yours doesn't come with any.

P.S. fake ones also have red marker on their oven lid magnets.

I'm sorry but it doesn't look identical to my Pax that I bought straight from Ploom. The case should have very faint longitudinal lines, I assume from the way the aluminum is milled or processed? I think it's a key of the detection of fake Pax's, but I might be completely wrong. I know mine is real and it's got very faint lines running the length of the case. Yours looks almost too perfectly smooth. My serial number also isn't printed that large. I bought mine straight from Ploom over a year ago, so it is very possible I am completely out to lunch on what I said.

I have 3 PAXs from Ploom and they all have a "powdercoat" look to it.
Also fake ones don't bother to put serial numbers on them.
my friend got a fake pax and had like a brushed aluminum look to it. He gave it to me to take apart, thats all fake ones are good for.
From what I've seen, I'd bet Dr Gonzo gets a real one...if i were a betting man.
I hope it works out for you Dr Gonzo!
If not, you can get an Indica with warranty shipped. Not a bad fall back plan!

P.S. Jethro i have an early and newer model and the serial numbers are slightly different from the old to the new. Main thing is it has one!

I have an official Pax as well and mine definitely has a "brushed" finish as well. Here is a photo from the near beginning of this thread.

H2Sr.png

I can see the lines in these models in this picture. In Dr. Gonzo's last photo, I can't see any lines at all. Maybe Ploom has changed the finish since I bought mine a year ago? Perhaps the lines are not as noticeable in the black models? I have a blue one. The finish is very smooth, however. I was thinking milling lines as well.
