Discontinued Pinnacle Pro

New user to vapes and this forum. I read a bunch of reviews for the PAX and PNP. Just ordered my PnP on Friday from Vapor Nation. After reading about all the problems with cracked plastic and bad mouth pieces I am thinking about cancelling my order in the morning. I have gone 30 years without vaping and could wait a bit longer for the problems to be worked out on the portable vapes.

Maybe my first vape should be a desktop unit.

Thoughts?

Check out some of the other vaporizers. I like the Solo and I do have the Pnp, but you're right there are issues that need to addressed. The Pnp has a lot of promise for the future though.

Hi all, brand new to vaping my bud. I've been using ecigs for a few years and started using those combustion herb atties a year or so back, but I thought it was time to quit combustion all together. Enter my first vape the PnP which came in a few days ago. This thing is sexy!

Ok, so I read 15 pages or so back but I am still a little lost. Wondering if anyone could help me out? Bear with me, some of this is some basic stuff and I hope it doesn't tick anyone off.

I understand the recommended setting is 2 for herb, is this correct? I've played with it a bit, but I am not understanding (or feeling) what are the practical effects the different temperatures do. Is there any basic info on this somewhere?

I am getting no visible vapor exhale from my PnP (at 1,2 or 3), is this normal (no hydrotube)? The youtube videos show at least a little, to some which show a decent amount. I am not complaining, as the herb is having an effect (though slightly different from combustion, which I understand is normal) but I am wondering if I am doing something wrong?

What is the correct way to vape the PnP? Is it long shallow inhales or sharp deep ones?

My throat is getting wiped out, is this normal with herb vapes? A hydrotube is in my future, but till I can get one, is there any way to moderate the scratchy throat I am getting?

So I read about the melting plastic issues and that there is some cotton solution but where do I put the cotton? Alternatively if I have a lot of those little screens for pipes, could I use that instead and would just putting one on top of the bullet help at all?

Is there a write up somewhere that gives kind of a noob tips and tricks to the PnP? I've have googled extensively but couldn't find anything besides the couple of videos I already watched.

Again, sorry if my noobness ticks anyone off, but I would be grateful for some help! Thank you!

Hi Very high
@na0landy Welcome aboard buddy. I only use settings 1,2 dry and 3 with water but 1,2,3 with water are all awesome and I get visible vapor each exhale until the bullet is spent. I'm not sure on what the effects are between the different temps but I always heat my unit up before dropping the bullet in, waiting 10-15 more seconds then start the party. I do a long slaw draw. If your getting no vapor at all then that's a bit worrying :hmm:

I use the No2 screens on top of my bullets but if you want to use cotton just shove a bit in top of the bullet on the herb. This keeps the mouthpieces/PonGs much much cleaner. If your don't go past level 3 hopefully you wont have any melting issues but the manufacturer is working on a new glass lined Pong were all hoping will solve the issues.

Finally on the sore throat issue, the WT will solve that problem for you. Level 1 dry however doesn't irritate my throat at all. Happy vaping:brow:

@na0landy
Yes the plastic mp for the pnp tastes a bit nasty TBH but the glass mp I have now is great. Vaping can dry the throat but nowhere near as much as smoking I smoked quite a few pure ones yesterday and my throat and nose felt bungy this morning. The pnp doesn't seem to produce the vapour the solo does and both put together don't equal the lotus.

After reading this I'm pretty much convinced that they have turned the heat levels down on the PNP to stop the mouthpiece breakage. Because my unit acts the same way. There is no amount of time I could wait to get visable vapor on setting 1.

@VapeNStone Must be because I get clouds and clouds on heat setting one. I only get slight vapor if I heat her up first and drop a bullet in and inhale right away . which isnt a bad thing as you get tons of active ingredients at lower temps.

@naolandy Heres the thing. The PNP is a portable vape. If portablilty and stealth are big issues, its a good unit. If you just want to get into vaping, look in to getting a desktop vape. They are far superior to any portable on the market. They can get quite pricey but there are also some very good desktop vapes at reasonable prices. I have an Arizer Extreme Tower Q that does great. You can get one for around $150 and I have had zero problems or complaints with mine. As far as a portable vape, I love the PNP but it has too many issues right now for me to recommend getting one. If they can get a handle on the plastic issue and the battery issue it could be a fantastic portable alternative. The bullet bowl heating system is a great idea and when my PNP still worked I rarely went over the #2 setting and got excellent vapor clouds. Its kind of a diamond in the rough right now.

I suggest the first page it has the temps listed and all the features. Sickstones did a great intro review.

The Pnp is hard on the throat, unless using a water tool. I suggest getting the replacement gong from VaporBlunt. I have been using that along with a baby nipple that's cut off at the tip. BarnBoy suggested the baby nipple, it works pretty good to keep the gong stable.

You could use the gong that's included to use as a mouthpiece, it may not be so harsh. Many fans of this unit are trying to extend the air path, by trying to use something such as glass, or tubing making their own mouthpieces. You can see how desperate folks were to make this vape less harsh by MaGyvoring their mouthpiece so they had less burn to the throat. I won't use the regular mouthpiece with this unit because it's too harsh for me unless I use the WT.

I personally took one of the pongs and sanded it down so I could insert a glass piece from my Ascent vaporizer to extend the air path, now I can use levels 2 and 3 with very little irritation.

Be careful when taking the mouthpiece off that it doesn't stick to avoid any tearing of the plastic. make sure you keep the top area of this unit and the mouthpiece clean of resin. If using ISO wipe it off with water afterwards, some folks think leaving alcohol on the plastic could make it brittle.

Also I would avoid going past level 3, just out of precaution to protect the plastic, I don't know if that works because my units cracked at the top and I don't go past level 3.

This is a great little vape but it has issues with the cracking plastic. The warranty does not cover that problem unfortunately and there doesn't seem to be a fix coming from the company that we know of.
Unless you get a real bargain on this unit, the cost is $239 a big investment for some.

The BT-01

This is a solid plastic shroud custom designed for the Pinnacle to make the P/GonG attachment a bit more sturdy.

The above image is the first prototype and works well. This is it being printed

(Please excuse the horrible colour but I needed to use up my Gold, the finished object will be black obviously.)

And this is it finished.

This how it looks when in use

1ExYug1.jpg

As you can see it fits very snugly and holds the WT on beautifully. As an added bonus of the snug fitting it also really helps with sealing the mouthpiece to the main unit and gives a better draw. I tried it out with friends earlier and it's the first time I've felt safe seeing it being passed around the room!

The only problem is it's flipping gold and a bit on the angular side.

So, change filament and round the corners off the model a bit and

TCE2ggB.jpg

CZWgBCI.jpg

Unfortunately that weird warping you see along the top side was my fault due to being a little too eager to get it off the bed and try it out :)

Anyway it's still a bit angular so I'm going to smooth the model out a bit more and do a final version.

The total cost of the plastic is 20p and it takes about 40 minutes to print.

Once I have finalised the design I will upload the STL file to Thingiverse so anyone here who already has a 3D Printer can make their own or I am happy to print them for people for the cost of materials and postage which I estimate to be about £1.50 for the Uk and maybe £3-4 for US.

I was a little concerned while I was designing this that heat might be an issue as I am using PLA but after quite a lot of testing with back to back bullets I can confirm that the shroud does get warm but not hot and certainly does not get anywhere near as warm as the main unit.

Finally I would like to thank The @BarnBoy for his excellent nipple mod which inspired me to create this.

Just want to say thanks a ton guys! Wow, this is a very welcoming forum, I was half expecting negative noob-go-away type comments. Should've known my ent family would not be like that.

I will ASAP switch to using the other head (pong?). Given your replies, the lack of visible vapor is troubling. I only used level 3 for a few minutes, I was afraid of the heat doing damage to my brand new device. If temps are lower in new units, then I will try it for a full session or 2 and see if that produces any visible vapor.

Sounds like a hydrotube is a must. That's going to ordered within the next week. :) Wish I was smart enough to look for you all before buying, I could've saved some cash and got the deluxe version right out of the gate.

Thanks again everyone!

@Burnttoast22 NICE, good work.
Now how about a challenge...... printing the cracking nose piece in some heat resistant material.
Is there a more heat resistant material for 3D printing?

Well there's ABS which is much tougher than PLA but still not tough enough to make a complete mouthpiece from. There's nylon but that's just a bit more flexible and not particularly heat proof. My buddy has some carbon fibre filament coming but I still doubt it'll stand 200C+. Most hotends can only go up to about 230C; although some of the newer all metal hotends like the E3D can go up to about 320C. Basically everyone is working away like mad to produce a hotend which can do 450C+ which is hot enough to be able to print aluminium.

I think at the moment printing a replacement mouthpiece is just not possible but give it a year or two and I think it'll be worth revisiting.

BT-01 Update:

I tried creating a more streamlined version but I came across two problems. 1. Making the design so it fits snugly but is still easy to remove is a lot harder when you try and refine the shape. 2. I'm not very good with sketchup yet; which probably explains problem 1.

So, for the moment I have kept the square design but I have reduced the inner wall of the top face so that the water tool can be fitted more snugly onto the P/GOnG.

I wasn't sure if the little holes than run across the side of the device were air holes or not so I made sure they were not covered when the shroud was fitted in place just in case.

I will keep playing with sketchup and do a BT-02 version which will be more streamlined but for the moment this version works fantastically and blends in very well when done in black.

I will be uploading the file to thingiverse in a bit so if anyone wants to have a go at printing it or remixing it while I get up to speed on Sketchup then feel free.

I am not adverse to putting a little FC logo on the side of this if it is something people might want.

Is there a more heat resistant material for 3D printing?

I've been thinking about this a bit more and I reckon it may be doable. I do stress may.

With a shroud device of some sort the need to have the mouthpiece fit securely is eliminated which fixes one of the major hurdles of creating a new mouthpiece.

What I think could be done is create a mouthpiece that is similar to the original one but with no clips on the bottom and a slightly wider tube. you could then fix a glass tube in the centre of it and either put a gauze on top of the bullet or fold one up push it up the bottom of the glass like the original mouthpiece screens.

This way there's no plastic right next to the hot centre of the device and the glass tube will absorb a lot of the heat and provide a better seal for the airpath.

Maybe use one of those glass tubes a guy had made with a flattened out bottom; I think that would work very well indeed.

A 0.2mm or 0.1mm layer mouthpiece in black would look pretty damn good actually.

Thoughts anyone?

I don't know why I ever lit my bud on fire. I am absolutely loving using my pnp with or without the WT. It took me a bit to find a good setting but I like 2 without the WT and 3 with and I am getting good vapor clouds with both. The WT definitely gives you a much larger and dense cloud. I am excited to try out oils and waxes. My only complaint is the mouthpieces do feel loose and they do get somewhat hot when I am taking long draws.

Great work @Burnttoast22 ! This is really impressive stuff. Would love to get hold of one of these when you have finished refining it. This has got me excited, finally I may be able to use my WT again!

Functionally it works fantastically right now. The only refining will be reducing overall size which I doubt will be that much actually as the flat top base is good for the WT stability and there's not much more you can take off the outer edges without compromising the internal structure of the shroud. That said the 02 with be a similar shape to the device body itself. If you need something to get functional again though just get the 01.

@Burnttoast22 I didn't mean the mouth piece i meant the piece the the MP connects to, but the same rule applies about the heat.
Do you mean the sleeve area? That's where all the cracking of the units are, by where the mouthpiece attaches, it's called the sleeve by VB.

CarolKing,

Burnttoast22

Eats your cake in front of you
If @lookhigh means the top of the actual device where the mouthpiece clips on it then the answer is maybe but probably not. You would have to print the entire outer shell/sleeve though and PLA wouldn't be anywhere near strong enough at the thickness of the sleeve.

What I would do if my PnP gets cracked at the top is use the BarnBoys heatshrink band method and then use a shroud* (any design) to keep to tight and snug. |I know it's not ideal or particularly asthetically pleasing at the moment but I think that will get a cracked PnP going again.

If your PonG if too far gone then get a replacement from VB and use a shroud or wait til I can design a new one with a glass airway.

*Note: When I say shroud from now on I mean a generic shroud.

What!?!?
So I tried some shatter in my fmj for the first time, it was ok but no matter how many times I hit it there was a little pool of liquid at the bottom that never went away, ended up dumping it out, it was black am I missing something? Is there something in that shatter that's not vaping?
