I have a mini DG frit piece with really hard water stains all along the few inches of the mouthpiece. What kind of PBW soak would I have to do? or would there be any other alternatives for getting rod of these? I already tried some pbw + tea kettle hot water and shook it for a few mins but it didn't get it out.

I cleaned all my glass with 99% ISO (SAFEWAY or VON'S) and some salt.
When I rinse I use RO water with a lime or lemon squeezed in the rinse water.
Towel dry after 1 hour of air dry.
Vapor with a clean path is my favorite!
Then again I'm a cheap ass!

I was referring to getting the white stuff off of my piece after PBW wash. I wish I would have just stuck with the ISO method (basically your method) The PBW has left my expensive glass functional but hideous and after trying everything I can think of to get the white streaks off I am giving up. Live and learn, an expensive lesson, but lesson learned none the less.

Sorry to hear about your experience. You probably just want to try to wash your hands of this ordeal and move on but did you try rewashing in PBW? I thought i read somewhere on here that someone had similar issues from over concentrating the PBW and leaving it soak for too long but were able to remove the stains by doing another soak with hotter water for a shorter amount of time. I have some slight staining in the neck of my piece but I think its from the hardish water around here. I havnt tried to get them out really

I also had white streaks the first & 2nd time I used PBW.
Then I started using hotter water, shorter dwell times, and quicker rinses.
EDIT: thanks @t-dub I forgot, I also use about 50% less as compared to when I got some streaks.
Haven't seen a white streak in many, many months.
I used to hate cleaning glass because of ISO fumes, but with PBW it has become a more pleasant, relaxing experience.

Yeah, I rewashed it a million times in various concentrations for various times. I will continue to do so. The water I have used has been a hair under boiling each time. I am going to just keep using it and keep cleaning it, hoping for the best someday. I just wish this hadn't happened on such an expensive piece (for me).

I actually use more in the dishwasher now than in my lab because of the cranberry extract. As a result I am going to try One Step which is a less aggressive, no rinse cleaner and a sanitizer.

....I'm on board too man...just ordered some from amazon...I have one hydratube sssfg ( hydraline) which has proved problematic in maintaining cleanliness, and has developed stains...will try this as I have really "burnt out" of the iso methods...thanks again t-dub for another good informational thread...

Closer to the 10-month rather than 10 years, but hey, if you really use it right, like t-dub does, it could last a couple of years. My tub that size (I also use it in the dishwasher) is over 6 months old, and maybe I have 10% of it left.Thanks guys for the advice so far!

Sorry to post right in the middle of the thread, but after lurking for a while just wanted to stop by and say that after my first rinse of PBW I am seeing some results. I can see where some "build up" of sorts has been removed. I still have some questions for what a good ratio of PBW:Water is, as well as how long should I let it soak? Are multiple short quick soaks more effective or would overnight soaks be more beneficial? Thanks so much anyone that can help!
