The Lotus Vaporizer

Max, any chance will be seeing something like that for the Vapor Cap anytime soon?

That material would be perfect, and the second picture is what I envisioned (albeit smaller) when I said it could be like a "frisbee" that fits over the cap.

This is perfect timing, too! I was planning on ordering a stem to go accompany my WPA!

Got my order today, long AL stem included. Saw the red cap in the box and didn't think much about it, good idea though.

I feel that the original long stem cools the vapor more than my glass j-hook, much smoother than I expected. I actually don't care for the j-hook dry.
I also picked up a pack of their fine screens, I was concerned the courser ones would let bits through like I see in my bubbler when I use the WPA. So far no problems.

The wood pipe I ordered came in today. Here's a photo album: http://imgur.com/a/BHhPQ#0

I love how the WPA fits on the wooden bowl. Snug fit. The gap allows clearance for my fingers, so I could "pluck" off the WPA easily.

The stem is about 15 inches. Total length from the plug at the end of the bowl to the mouthpiece is 17 inches.

Pretty big, but the sight line is incredible. Precision torching.

Here are better images from the creator themselves: http://imgur.com/a/Zo3Lj

So the woods are cherry, red heart for the mouthpiece, maple burl for the plugs, and bamboo for the stem. The maple from the plugs and the Cap is nicely paired IMO.

So my friend was over today, and we were using the D020. Well he still hasn't mastered the torch handling yet, and I could tell he was going to combust. So I started to yell at him, unfortuately his reaction time is EXTREMELY slow, and by the time he stopped inhaling, the entire load was completely combusted!

To the point when he released the draw from the D020, the up-draft of the perc settling caused combusted smoke to pour OUT of every hole on the Lotus Cap!!! :puke:

I've replaced the water, changed the cotton filter, and replaced the screen, yet the taste STILL remains 2 sessions later. It's almost like the smoke has tainted the cap - does anyone know the best method to eliminate this? Maybe place in a bag with some ground coffee beans? (hmm, caffeinated vapor anyone? lol)

So my headphone case recommended by @SSVUN~YAH (several weeks ago) arrived today! I must say, it's pretty tight, but with the Lotus facing down, and the WPA sticking upwards, it fits VERY well into this case. And there's enough room for a scoop and a baggie of some ground herb! All I need is my lighter and I can transport to friend's houses worry free.

The zipper seems sufficient, and the shell is probably made from cardboard. However, the WPA and the Lotus together make for a nice tight fit which should nicely hold everything tight while still protecting the nickle plate from damage. Not bad for less than $5!

Congrats! Just in time for the holiday!

I had problems with the standard screens and material getting into my D020. I ended up using a bit of 100% organic cotton in my reducer to catch the debris. My bubbler is MUCH cleaner than before, I'm happy so far with the cotton (I had my doubts, I really didn't "want" to use cotton, but sure as shit it works!)

Enjoy your new vape - and get ready for TAS (torch acquisition syndrome)

Don't fret - I believe 1/2 inch will fit fine. This is why I took advantage of MT's 15% off sale and purchased 50 more screens lol. (I plan to soak and reuse most of them, but I still have lost a few already)

It is fun to hit. I like holding it like a gun.

My 6" Al stem produces much tastier vapor than this wood stem. However, it will cool vapor better than the Al stem, so I can get a bigger hit.

I think it will be a nice addition to my outdoor gear. I don't like taking glass outside, so this should fill that need.

The Al stem still becomes the everyday carry, then bubbler or jhook at home.

can you post the link where you ordered from..that pipe is SICK!!!!

You should have gotten 2 screens and some extras. I got some screens from this place on a recommendation and love them, no bits of weed in my J-hook. The 1/2 inch fit perfectly and fast shipping. I like them better than the ones that come with the Lotus. http://www.pipescreenz.com
Which ones are better, the brass or stainless? What type are in the lotus to begin with?

My screens have held up well, and overall I think the Lotus is the easiest piece I have ever cleaned.

Unfortunately, I have gone through 2 failed hot-plates... no word yet from mendo, sent a letter last week. I can't figure out why this happened again; it seems I am the only one who has had this failure twice:(

The Lotus is fun to show off!

Ooo that natural looks sexy, I'm REALLY thinking about selling my black cap to a friend and buying one.

Or I might contact MT and see if they will make me a custom cap from an exotic wood (my friend is a wood turner, he has access to tons of wood. I would supply the material if required)

What's your flame length like?

My honest torch pooped out on me, so I switched to a cheap double barrel I found at the gas station.

Having two flames, I find I only need to leave the heat on the plate for just a few seconds. The length of the blue flames are approximately 3/4 the distance between the pedal tips on the cap.

Do you have any pics of the cracks?

Interested to see them if 2 have cracked the wooden part and the holes could be at fault or something like too tight or fully tightening each screw one at time sort of thing.

let the pics clarify, the wooden part is not cracking- just the hot plate. It is only a very uneducated guess that the holes might not be aligned... I get into more detail below.

Here are a few photos.

The first is of the original hot plate that came with my Lotus, after a few weeks use.
Here the crack is starts around 10 o'clock on the dial, and extends around the dimple to approximately 3 o'clock on the top of the lotus.

jtAZr7q.jpg

This next photo was taken a week ago when I sent another letter to Mendo. This photo shows the replacement plate cracking in the same exact pattern around the dimple. In this photo, the crack starts around 12 o'clock and blends back together around 3 o'clock.

styaILe.jpg

This last photo was taken today, and now shows the crack has grown substantially since the pic above. It starts at 12 o'clock, and continues all the way around the dimple to about 5 o'clock.
0jRensZ.jpg

Regarding tension on the screws, they are not heavily tightened. In fact, they are loose enough where I could easily rotate them another 3/4 turn with very little pressure.

Is there anything else that I might have done to damage my plate? I certainly do not want Mendo coming out of pocket to repair damage I caused.

Regarding my theory of drill holes not being aligned correctly, this was just a longshot stab in the dark about what might be straining or fatiguing the metal. It is very unlikely that is the cause, it is simply the only possible answer I could think of...

I appreciate and welcome all y'alls thoughts and recommendations; I have learned so much in here!

I was not aware that the flame could be used outside of the dimple. Yours seems to be heavily flamed well to the outside of it. Is the plate meant to be used like that? Thanks!

I only aim the lighter at the center, the coloring around the edges of the dimple appear blueish/purple and that color came in within the first day of use. I had assumed that was just cause by the heat, is that not normal?

I'm starting to suspect it's your torch. You used the same torch with both devices. You indicate you are keeping your flame in the center, yet your heat discoloration extends out much further than on mine

Your first plate lasted longer than your replacement, correct? I assume you used the honest lighter for a while with the plate before it crapped out and you purchased another torch, right? How long after purchasing your new torch did you crack your first plate?
