Floating on.
I clean my pax 2-3 times a week which could be excessive but I noticed it tastes better when clean so I try to keep it clean more often than not.

Completely agreed, I don't think that's excessive. I clean/lube it after every 3-4 ovens. If it's cleaned often, the performance and taste is preserved, and each cleaning is much less intensive compared to letting gunk build up. You can also keep the oven/screen looking nice with frequent cleaning. Not perfect, but still pretty nice. I'm also a gun owner, so cleaning my expensive toys is just second nature to me.

Unfortunately that's not my situation entirely, I've been haven't combusted in almost 6 months and the one time I did in December was because I didn't have my arizer eq on me and a buddy lit a blunt. Only took one hit and said Fuck that lol. I've been vaping with the EQ for over a year with no issues. I was thinking maybe because the pax goes directly from the oven to your lungs and doesn't give the vapor a chance to cool down that it might be why I'm having this issue. It's not unbearable, but Annoying nonetheless lol. Maybe I just need to ease into using the pax so often. Maybe my lungs/chest isn't used to taking in that hot vapor that many times in large volumes lol

If your material is too moist. You will be inhaling hot water vapor ( steam ) into your lungs. Make sure your product is fairly dried out.

after you rub down the oven with iso, do you dry burn to get any iso vapor out? how long and on what setting?

Hope this helps some people, I know it did for me.
For smaller loads I like to use a stock PAX screen that I modded to make it a bit easier for removal. It also helps keep the material tight and doesn't move around. Material browns very evenly. Here's what I did.

I took an extra PAX screen and punched a hole in the middle with a center punch tool. Anything will work as the screen is a lot thinner than it seems.
I found a spare motherboard stand-off screw and nut and inserted into the screen. After trial and error I added a few washers to the bottom part of the screen where the bolt goes. Also dremeled of the excess portion of the standoff. This was adjusted to allow the correct amount of space needed for the material I usually use. I made two of these screens, one for a shallow bowl and one for a deeper bowl.
The key part to this screen is the metal stand-off is magnetic and allows for me to remove the screen without ever touching it. Also found it much easier to put back if a stir is needed.
During a session I NEVER ever need to touch the screen anymore and we all know how hot it can get. Works perfectly. Here's a link to what I did. I believe any small screw and bolt will work, use whatever you can find. The key is to make sure it's magnetic! I wish I could make a gif because the way the screen snaps up to the oven lid when I want to remove it is killer. PAX should really think about making something like this.

so you use just your mod screen and no normal screen below? Seems like flow might be better too. Any worry having those quality of metals in the oven?

Yes I use a screen below. I've never thought the draw was strained to begin with.
No clue about the quality of the metals. Think I'm going to try and find some stainless steel screws and bolts.

made an impulse purchase on a pax tonight been thinking about one they had a new black one at my LHS so I decided to snag it and with a free SCS grinder I couldn't beat it
I purchased from smoke and mirrors in santa cruz Ca from the ploom website that store is listed as an authorized dealer my question is am I entitled to the same warranty as someone who purchases from the official website ?
do I have to keep my paper receipt for 10 years?
just wanna make sure I didn't make a mistake buying local

Ploom is exceptional with warranties, even without a receipt.
I speak from experience.
Your in good hands!

I don't do that. Are we supposed to lol.

Mines pretty damn dry. I don't think that could be the issue but I'll try drying it out some more to test your theory.

I smoke kief out of mine all the time, kinda similar I guess... no issues just makes for a messier clean up when the time comes.

pack a little herb (half way full), add the hash to the middle (keep it away from the sides of the oven), cover the hash with herb and fill the oven up.

Make sure the hash is covered by herb and there is no hash touching any part of the oven. when you add hash there is always a risk for making a mess inside your pax so keep the hash loads small and make sure the hash is covered by herb in every direction. DOing this will allow the herb to block the oils from making a mess in the oven.

*To avoid a tough clean up make sure you keep the Pax mouthpiece pointing up so that you don't drip hash oils into your mouth piece and into the oven making it hard to clean.

*Start on a low setting so you don't burn thru your hash fast

I have done this and it works great

Do you guys think it might be time for Ploom to consider an upgrade to the Pax? All these Fireflys, Indicas, and soon Grasshoppers, makes me think maybe Ploom can do better with current technology.

Not to say the portable vape can't be improved, but the Grasshopper isn't a great example to include. I will be pleasantly surprised if/when this product actually ends up in people's hands. Their most recent update was that they uprooted and moved their operation to Colorado, and haven't even started production yet. It will be July at the very earliest before backers get their hands on them, and probably much longer than that if their track record so far is consistent. Not only that, but I'd venture to guess it will cost a pretty penny when it's available to the public (probably in a year at the very earliest, if you're being realistic). It's a great concept, but these are college kids that clearly are in over their heads and don't have the business acumen of a company like Ploom.

I've used a Firefly, and while it functioned just fine, the Pax is thus far unparalleled when it comes to portability, stealth, and overall ease of use. The Grasshopper stands to be the only contender that hits all of the same positive points of the Pax, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

I personally like that Ploom is keeping the same design and not asking users to by a new $250 device every 2 years with a few added bells and whistles. Let them keep re-furbing faulty units and figure out issues with the current design, and make tweaks as necessary to make it a truly perfect device.

I think that if what the Grasshopper guys said is true, that they've uprooted their lives for this product, then they will pull of a decent vape. I've certainly sunk some dollars into them.

I loved the Pax, just a few things and the need for biweekly cleaning held it back for me and a bunch of people. Hopefully they do refresh the Pax.

I'm sorry cause I know you are already spoke a lot about the "temp light issue" but after read lot of pages of this thread I have always the same issue....

Just after a full cleaning the the temp light issue start again and it's a pita to vape like that!

I tried to clean very good the part where the mp tube is connected to the tube inside the unit, but there is no resin build up here, I used a toothpick wrapped in iso whip to clean as good as possible.... but it don't help at all.

Need I to take off the spring? to clean it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Nope, after wiping with iso I just set everything aside for a couple minutes to let fully dry before reassembling. Its usually all dry by the time I finish applying the MP lubricant (my last step)

I almost responded to Linux with a similar post, but had to leave and erased it. I def. agree with you...

It's only a matter of time before we see a new portable worthy of the Pax's praise, but until then the Pax stands alone for the above mentioned reasons.

I am having the same problem myself. Even with lube, one time a generous amount, it still persists after a few days.

when you turn off the pax does the temp reset to the default (medium heat) or does it stay where you left it ?

thanks im just asking because i thought it switched from yellow back to orange after i shut it off but maybe i was vaked could see the difference between the colors .... but i am really enjoying the low setting

better flavor
cooler/soother
better battery life
more hits it seems

i almost see no use for the higher settings low is toasting my abv perfectly and the high Red to me kind of taste like burnt popcorn or a burnt tortilla or something

I always start on low for a dozen hits, them medium for a dozen more. This is a half packed oven (apx .1g) with a folded 3/4" SS screen.
I love the flavor of lower temperatures! And for all the reasons you stated as well!
Also the ABV is great for brownies!
