I would agree, that it's a pain to go back and forth.
I have two ssvs, was thinking of selling one until I got the oil kit :science:

Sigh that was my fear lol. MY ssv is due to arrive tomorrow (!!!) so I'll play with it a bit first and decide from there. Sounds like I'll either go with a DBV or another reclaimed ssv as a standalone oil/wax dabber...

Thanks for your input!

I never had a problem taking it on and off, unless I let it cool all the way down, then small amounts of reclaim would bind the dome to the unit. Heat it back up a little and it comes right off. That said, I do believe there are minor variations in each dome because they are hand blown, some may be harder to get off than others.

For those that are decided upon owning two units... one for dabbing and one for flowers...
my recommendation would be to save money by getting a DBV and it's oil rig for concentrates, and saving your SSV for flowers....
besides costing less (the DBV) some users prefer the way it stands for a dab.

No
The nail and wand are the same, but the dome /HC is angled, like the SSV...
and the nail when installed in the SSV is always at an angle.
I prefer the nail to sit flat (psychological?)

Just got the ssv.... I couldn't do anything today except to wait for the mailman.. A story which I'm sure many of us shared.

I was soooo excited to unpack it I was shaking lol... I've been researching a lot about the ssv in the last week and hyped it up in my own mind. I told myself to calm down since I had a mflb so I knew what vaping was like anyways.

Took it out the box and noticed the blemish right away. It's a paint chip right on the rim of the circular opening. But everything else looks fine so I can't complain at all.

Plugged it in and turned the dial to high for 10 minutes to burn off the factory stuff. While it did that, I unpacked everything else and loaded the wand. In reality I probably waited only like 3 minutes before I stuck the wand in and took a drag cause I was so excited lol... probably shouldn't have been staring at it while I waited huh?

First drag, nothing much. The dial was below midway so i started low to be safe. But I tasted something so I just turned it up. Second drag...

LIFTOFF.

I didn't believe a vaporizer can actually produce SO much vapor that it mirrors combustion. I remember looking at my new ssv and saying the words "I love you" (I then turned my head to make sure nobody else heard me LOL). Indeed the hype was true..

The mflb was nice but no... that was no vaporizer compared to this beast. The mflb was always too harsh for me with no water attachment.. even with a whip. So to my surprise, the ssv was not harsh at all native... but I still can't wait to clean my little bubbler and try it out. I may have seen the last of my combustion days...

Forgive me but I couldn't find the edit button.. apologies for the double post.

Day 2 and I'm still loving the ssv! I woke up to find the heater cover completely loose.. I'm thinking it wasn't completely secure to begin with and popped loose overnight after the glass cooled off. Pulled back on the hinge and very carefully pushed it back down. I can see why it's a huge hassle to change HC all the time.. I felt nervous pushing down so hard on such a small piece of glass and my nail was hurting afterwards cause it takes a bit of force to pull it back.

But after I got it back on, I was riding the wave again  my bubbler is soaking in salt and iso to clean out about a year's worth of combustion gunk and tar build up so the wpa will have to wait until then:\:\

My next step is probably ordering the oil kit to see if I enjoy dabbing enough to warrant a standalone unit.

Hey, I've had my ssv for a couple of years but im thinking of getting an ice chamber or water filter for it (or possibly a vapor tamer) and was wanting a bit of advice on the different benefits of each. I work at sea now so i'm away for three months and when i get home i find myself coughing up half of my vapor when i take my usual big hits from it after so long without. I'm hoping one of these would help stop that. I also bought an extreme q a few months back (for bags mostly) so if there is an option that would work with both that would be good. I'm on a ship just now and due home in 2 weeks so wanted to order stuff so it's waiting for me when i get home. The internet on here is so slow it takes a few minutes just to load this page so my ability to research stuff is limited just now. If there is a good site with all the kinda info i want i'd appreciate a link.

cheers.

Fatty Vapor Tamer was my favorite of the tamers.. Saturn was my least favorite (due to weight/size)
I loved the Vapor Tamers more than I like water, but they do need to be re-frozen hourly... leaving you "tamer-less" for another hour or so.
Besides that, any bubbler will do, depending on preference.
I like them small.
Use the Water pipe adapter at mouthpiece end of whip.. waterpipe is used in place of mouthpiece.

Hey everyone. Just registered last night to let you know that I'll soon be joining the SSV ranks!

I've been using an MFLB for the past 3 years, and decided it's time to step my game up a bit. So, I've ordered a black SSV with the standard wand/HC, and some Arizer dome screens so I can do Tweak's mod immediately.

It cannot come soon enough!

I hope it works great for you. The MFLB ----> SSV path is a huge upgrade, IMO.

The domes are a PITA to cut/tear, wish I knew a better way. Even if I could figure out how to bend a normal screen, the EQ domes are made from a really fine mesh screen that makes them very flexible. And for some reason, mine barely gets dirty enough to block flow, it is always the second screen caked with goo.

You won't regret it! Run it through a bong/bubbler to make it extra fun :brow:

I'm sure I'll be fine - having 'mastered' every MFLB technique I could find, I can't wait to be doing the same with the SSV. As for the screens, I'll have to be patient when tearing that ring off.

I've been considering that, it looks pretty sweet!

If you get the chance, I highly suggest checking out the "high quality cheap bubbler" thread in the glass section. Link is here: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/cheap-high-quality-bubbler.5255/page-203

A lot of good quality glass pieces for an affordable price. For example, the D020 has been a hot seller and very popular here at FC in recent weeks. Only ~$30 shipped and is perfect for the SSV! (with the 18.8 water pipe adapter sold by 7th floor). Link here: http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/d020-bubbler-hand-blown-glass-vase-perc-water/175832535.html (notice over 340 purchases of this piece!)

Some people here advocate for whip only, and I can see why for convenience. There's times when I'm lying in bed and water filtration just won't be possible. But of course, I can take much bigger rips with water filtration so I basically default to that anytime I'm not lying down :brow:

Either way, for around $30 bucks, what's the harm in trying right? Good luck!

I am thinking about buying that bubbler for when the bong I have is more than necessary or if more people are over. This seems to be a disputed idea, but what are opinions on the cloud exhaled? Is that wasted vapor? I enjoy getting huge rips with my SSV hooked up to my Vriptech Water Tool Perk, but I am beginning to wonder if that is a sign of inefficiency. Thanks!

Yah not the best colors .. Didn't realize to call into the shop and ask for colors amongst the blemished units.

But hey...

Hit my biggest clouds today. :rockon:Getting the hang of it I think :ko:

Still love my ssv even if its an ugly duckling

Longtime lurker and hate that this is my first post but if anyone is thinking of buying a SSV go to Massdrop for the SSV deal. Only a few hours left and we need 7 more for $169.99 price!

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/silver-surfer-vaporizer

Help me replace this terrible iolite Ive been using for a couple years! Truth be told I actually never use it anymore because the taste is blah and have gone back to burning...

o... didnt know they had that option! Though it seems they nickel and dime you on everything for that option. I just ended up buying it, even at 189 its a good deal. Unlike most of the stuff on Massdrop you cant buy the SSV anywhere (new at least) for that price. Its kind of the reason I have a love hate relationship with them. Some products are bonafide deals and I will deal with the slow shipping because of it but some you can get off of ebay etc. for very close to their "lowest" price.

Also going to order that bubbler above! god now the waiting begins..

For 10$ more you can get a blemished one even if that doesn't work out.

http://silversurfervap.com/sale-items/blemished-silver-surfer-vaporizers.html
And for a similar price there are many on Ebay.
My neighbor just picked one up on Ebay for 175 delivered.. and it is not blemished.
A cousin in Florida just got a new one on Craigslist for 125.
Don't fret @wuzupfoo ... you will get a bargain on one even if massdrop does not work out.

Edit:
I see that while I was posting, you pulled the trigger on one. Good Job!
Local headshops in my area sell SSVs for 200, but they will sell you one for 175 if you are a cardholding patient. They sell blemished ones to the public for 179 when they have them.
