Grinder Magnet Paint Shavings Problem LOL

Heya FCers!

I've got a Sharpstone Grinder and one day was shocked to find the silver coating paint had chipped off!! (on the magnet). It was quite weird because the grinder's been working great the whole time & there was no extra abuse or anything... it just randomly peeled off. Now the magnet is exposed and there is tiny magnet powder, or some sort of powder that is metallic...

The upper magnet is fine and so far the power of the magnet is strong enough to attract the powder & not have it go all over the place. Grinder has two magnets, 1 for top part, 1 for bottom part, should be just like your grinders hehe....

1) Is the powder toxic & harmful if they fell into my blend? 210C is my highest vape temp.

2) Does anyone know the best way to get the powder off & out?
- Right now its hard to get powder out since it "sticks" to the magnet, like it's metallic & attracted to the magn
- I was thinking of using a stronger magnet to attract the powder particles

3) Anyone have this problem & any good info to know?
- How long are Sharpstones / Grinders supposed to last before they come into problems like this??? I thought they were good forever...

That said, are you using this through a water tool? I highly doubt you can heat up a rare earth magnet (or parts of one) enough for it to off-gas. Id really only be concerned about inhaling the dust if you are using a dry stem or something.

My Sharpstone has seen plenty of miles, and at one point I thought there was some flaking along the magnet, but it was just kief dust that had hardened on there. The body is machined aluminum so I don't see where flakes could come from? I wouldn't use that grinder you described though. Something not right about if it's flaking. Your lungs may love you for spending the $25 on an authentic Sharpstone.

The flakes arent coming from the alum or metal parts of the grinder. It's just the small magnet in the middle that's problematic. They aren't really flakes, more so powder, like "magnetic soot", if ya get my drift...

You know the shiny silver magnet on the bottom, there's a coating or some sort of thin metal paint on the magnet, prolly to make less friction & smoother. That part chipped / came off, now the magnet is "exposed"...

It's authentic & has been working perfect till this problem hehe, it has seen several years of use...

If it were me I would just toss it in the trash. Flakes, shaves, powder, or any other nonsense is unacceptable. At most I might try to salvage what I grinded but I would not keep using a defective grinder.

Could always contact Sharpstone and see what they say, since this is on their web site:

"Please feel free to contact us 24/7 with any concerns or issues you may have."

you could run your ground bud past another stronger magnate, that in theory would pick up any flakes that made it off your grinder.

My question is, how are you distinguishing between "magnetic soot" and possibly just kief powder?

I suppose if you've been using it a while, if this is a new observation I am more inclined to think it's not kief.

My question for the original poster is:
Have you ever accidentally dropped your grinder on the ground?
You would be surprised to see how many things might stick to your magnet... I am thinking the debris might not be coming from your grinder at all.

Perhaps you can try blowing compressed air over it to remove the debris

This would be easier with pictures...
