The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

Ok .New guy here.Appreciate the thread,as I have been/am struggling with my brand purchase choice.First I was sold on the V-Tower,then I read threads extolling the virtues of the Da Buddah and was interested in that one, then read thread on the Vapolution,and..well...having a hard time deciding. No experience with vapes before, so this is all new.Wondering how many folks use the bag?Is it worth the extra $30+ to get the Extreme q over the V-tower?I know it is a subjective thing based on preferences and experience, but having never used one before, there is no way for me to make an informed decision.I AM a lightweight tho if that makes any difference. Also there are no other tokers around that I know of,so it is just me using whatever I FINALLY decide to purchase.

Is it necessary to fill the bowl to 1/3-1/2 as has been suggested,or could you just put a small amount in there for a short session?

Thanks for any advice/insight.

I think it's the glass stem from the Cloud .
That was my first direction, but then I would have had to use a male-male converter. More glass to break. :)

I also picked up a new female-female adapter to use in place of my Tuffbowl, I haven't tried it yet but was pleasantly surprised when it got here and a stock EQ screen fits right in. Lays on the bottom ground joint, which is fine for me because it's just there to keep bits off the heater. I only elbow pack.

I haven't had my EQ out for weeks since I got the Lotus, it will come back out for the upcoming holiday weekend if nothing else.

If your only question was wether to get the EQ or V-Tower, I would say EQ without hesitation. Even if you don't use the bags it's a better machine, and having the fan as an option is never bad.

DBV is a great vape, but the analog nature of the temperature control bothers me. I prefer the digital feedback of the EQ.

As you can see from this thread the EQ is a very versatile machine, it plays well with many aftermarket accessories. Including converting the whip to a glass airway.

If small loads are your thing you should look into elbow packing the EQ. It's the best way to get thick, dense hits from a small amount of herb. Basically you load the small bowl shaped screen that fits in the elbow adapter. Makes it super easy to take a couple hits then remove the adapter with the whip and set it aside until you're ready for another hit or three.

Derp.... How do I merge two posts?

You may need to use a larger screen so it gets stuck in the middle and doesn't flip over when you inhale.

Someone just messaged me about this. THE STOCK EX-Q SCREEN DOES NOT WORK WITH THE ADAPTER FROM SSMOKESHOP. You need a larger 25mm screen. If you can't find one, get a cheap stainless steel strainer and cut it up!

Would you guys consider the Extreme Q to be the second best bag vape next to the Volcano/ that other $500+ bag vape ? Is there another bag vape out there between the Extreme Q and The Volcano?

It appears I'm suffering from buys remorse. I read this review recently from "The Vape Critic" , Any truth to it?

"This vape has a lot of functions, but I don’t personally feel any of them are that impressive. If you were just looking for a good whip vape I think the Plenty and SSV are better, and if you were looking strictly for a good balloon vape my #1 recommendation would be the Volcano. The attraction of the EQ is that it can do both, but each thing it does is sort of done in a mediocre way."

My Extreme Q is here but I know that if I open / use it I can't return it. Now I'm thinking that If I want a strictly bag vape for life the volcano would be the wisest choice.

Can any of you nice folks out there with experience with the both of these vapes help me with this. I know how bored you guys all must be about X vs volcano talks. But bare with me :) thanks

A lot of its issues are a result of bad airflow. With a few simple mods, the EQ becomes a good, high quality vaporizer.

IMO, the second best bag vaporizer is the Zephyr Ion, which like the volcano is pump driven and bag only. The Herbal Aire is another good bag/whip option, and the latest models have an external pump. I dont think the EQ is a very good bag filler--the lack of a valve and all the little pieces are a liability--but it can be quite a decent direct draw vaporizer using the mods on this forum. The key is to position the herb closer to the heating element. If you keep it, replace the stock pvc tubing with medical grade silicone.

As promised, my setup.....

The Adapter:

zg5w.jpg

The Screen for the adapter (the largest one. the smaller screen is the one from the Cyclone).
er7c.jpg

Bowls, side by side, whip attached to adapter (see decrease in space from heater to adapter screen and from adapter screen to elbow... makes for nice performance improvement!)
8n7v.jpg

The Holder (also displaying my Mad Wood-Working Skillz... LOL) Holds the bowls, even if blazing hot.

The Holder, Unloaded
j5jo.jpg

The Whip Plug (complete with spare plug and AVB Fart Nose clip. Quite a bonus!.... LMAO! :lmao:)
(from Target Sporting Goods Section, swimming earplug and nose clip kit for $5.50).
With the plug, I leave the herb cooking at whatever temp I please for as long as I want. When it's time for a pull, remove plug, hit, replace once done... Vape on demand with least amount of loss).

And there you have it. My Arizer Arsenal. This has made my Arizer experience far better  for me than my original out of box experience.

Newb to the forums but own an Extreme-Q for 3 years now. Never even thought to mod it until recently. My question to you is, where can you get a 19mm or whatever big the cyclone's bottom piece is holesaw or drill attachment to make the custom wooden bowl holder you have? What'd you do to make the holes? That is by far the coolest idea I have seen as I have melted several things on my desk over the past 3 years. Specifically my Fiskars cutting mat.

Also I've read some of your newer posts, but can't find if you use the SSV silicone hose or which hose you utilize? Where do you get your screens?

Thanks for the info yet once again!

'Direct draw using the mods on this forum'...yikes...283 pages is a daunting task with eyes this old. even with glasses the eyes are really protesting.

Direct draw...like the piece on ebay referenced below?

I found that piece on Amazon searching for a glass j-hook. They are no longer available from that seller.

Here is a similar one on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-Mm-Glass...360?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3c5822f0

Would you suppose this would suffice for direct draw...and would it fit the Q's standard "Cyclone" bowl without further mods?

This forum needs a synopsis page.Lol

Noodles there is a whole thread dedicated to the hose.....I think DDave is using the SSV hose but couldn't swear to it. I am using it and I like it. There are other options but I am happy with the SSV hose and Wand.
Some of you are concerned about reading this whole thread.....DON'T! Go back to around page 235 and that is where the pic above came from. Here is a summery of the whole thing though.
1. 19mm female to female brings heat closer. Best source but no guarantee about weather or not a screen will fit in the middle. .That is the key, some don't hold a screen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/18MM-FEMALE-TO-18MM-FEMALE-RING-HIGH-QUALITY-ADAPTER/231194379328?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid=222006&algo=SIC.FITP&ao=1&asc=21398&meid=6175704093828183928&pid=100011&prg=9407&rk=4&rkt=10&sd=331119340716
2. Elbow packs are awesome!
3. SSV wand with the EQ screen in the F/F adapter is awesome!
4. Two elbows and a hose leading to a bong/D020 is awesome!

I haven't used a Volcano, but I can tell you that the Vape Critic is heavily biased towards the Volcano and the Plenty and for that reason many of us (including me) do not take his opinions as reliable.

To his credit, if you look carefully VC discloses on his site that he is affiliated with Vape World and gets a commission on referrals. Using VW's prices, the Volcano is
$180 more than the EQ ($240) and the Plenty costs $110 more. You can actually get the EQ for $190 from PlanetVape, a highly regarded vendor. Ask yourself if the differences he describes are worth that much extra to you.

Edit: Search is currently available and has a thread search option. Server issues have been resolved.

I don't have a standard Cyclone bowl anymore to test with, but the Tuffbowl is basically the same piece minus the black band plus silicone sleeve around the whole piece. Same dimensions IIRC.
Mine works great for direct draw, but you need to support the back side of the glass when you put your lips to it. Nothing locking it in place. Which could be done with a regular F/F adapter and a Kleck clip.

I need to test out my new F/F adapter.... Maybe I'll get the EQ out of the closet today for some pre-4/20 testing.

Peace everybody.

Update:
So I did get the EQ out for some "testing."

A stock EQ screen does not stay in place in my new F/F adapter without wedging it down into the ground joint. Works fine for me, I only want it there to keep debris off the heater. It does dramatically increase the airflow.

I packed up an elbow in the new mouthpiece, popped it in the new adapter, kicked the fan on 3 and:
y5r0.jpg

Nice vapor poured out.

The ring is so thick on the adapter that is really hard to get a K-clip on it, but it can be done.

Nice! Similar setup to mine!

A few downsides though:

I found that I had to use a cork to plug the mouthpiece when not breathing in otherwise vapor would come out. I think that the standard whip prevents this by the length and that the direction of the output is not generally facing upwards.

Clearing it is a hassle too... could be cool to get a mouthpiece with a carb. I have accidentally pulled the adapter off lots of times along with the mouthpiece.

I don't keep the mouthpiece in the EQ. I insert it, hit it, then pull it and clear it all in one motion.
Set it down till the next hit. Saves a lot.

Hi @noodles , The latest source of the adapter (that I know of) is in my signature below... ;)

The drill bits came in a kit from Home Depot, my local hardware store. They're called Spade bits. The #1 bit is almost perfect size for the adapters... results in a very tight fit. Too loosen up a bit, rock the adapter while letting it spin in the wood and the hole enlarges a bit (or can Dremmel).
0bb03329-6a5f-435b-8fba-ac02a8f3e458_400.jpg

In regards to tubing, I use the tubing that came with the SSV Wand... Will go to the bulk silicon tubing used by so many here once it's time to change. There's an entire thread on this at FC.

Lastly, the screen. My local shop had a nice selection of screens. I found that the screen needed for the DDave adapter was exactly the same size as a US Quarter... that made it easy to get them from local shops.

Hope this helps & Vape On!

Hey guys, Received my Q a few weeks ago and have been playing with it.

I'm currently still on stock everything.... for now

The bags work great for me but the whip isnt working out too well for me, I think I must be doing something wrong.

For whip use, I made sure to have 2 clean screens, one in the elbow and one in cyclone bowl, finely ground up about 0.25g of kush, I let the unit heat up for 10 mins, placed my kush in the cyclone bowl and let that heat up for another 5 mins, When I take a draw I can see my weed jumping about in the cyclone bowl but I'm getting hardly any vapour and I cant feel any heat at all even though the unit is set to 220C.

Ive then tried an elbow pack but the same thing, Im getting hardly any vapour.

Ive tried long hard draws and short shallow draws

Not sure what Im doing wrong.

Any ideas where im going wrong guys?

Is it new herb? Some herb doesn't produce as much vapor as others. How far up are you filling the cyclone? I usually fill anywhere from a half to 3 quarters of the way when I want thicker vapor.

Massdrop has both the SSV and the EQ right now. I'm torn. Is the quality of the SSV whip hits over the EQ's whip hits worth the extra cash/the lack of balloon capabilities?
I only have the Solo and the MFLB, looking to get my first desktop vape.

As hoptimum stated, I also prefer the SSV. Much denser hits with less preheat time. With my SSV EQ screen mod I can elbow pack with the ability to stir or even make a deeper bowl if needed.

The EQ excels at being a social vaporizer though, if that is what you need. The whip can swivel 360 degrees, is simpler to use for non-vaporists, and there is NO chance of blowing material into the heater like you get with the SSV. Bags didn't do much for me and I was really excited to try bags the first time.
