I go where the thrills are
A Torx 5 or 6 works very well. I use the 6.

As others have mentioned, please consider the risk of voiding your warrantee if you attempt repairs yourself.

The best of luck.

Yeah, what WC said. All of it. (Torx 6 on the body, Torx 5 on the lid port window.) Moving the coil is tricky...you can a. break it...b. put it into a position that either gives you not enough heat, or wild combustion and c. definitely void your warranty. Personally I would consider contacting FF and following up with them...they give you that five year warranty for a good reason (they honor it, and yes, with FF Gen 1, we need it!).

Yeah, when i first saw all the colors were out of stock i assumed it was for some tweaking. Buts thats just what i thought who knows if thats what happens.

As i mentioned, i can feel the battery cover "snap" on but it does come off with very little effort from my thumb. I havent had any issues with it coming off on it own or in my pocket though. So i dont see myself buying a replacement unless they send one out first and i can send it back. But i only see that happening if they did infact adjust the cover.

As for the button, mine wiggles as others have mentioned but i dont see that being an issue either. Especially the way i use it, cause i just look for it to glow which it does everytime i press the button...

Great advice, @Shiggity & @mitchgo61

Listen to these guys...they know what they are talking about. Most of what I have learned about vaping is thanks to smart folks on this site.

I wish @Dreamerr was a FF user...I miss her lips...

That's good to hear. I don't like the button they chose at all, but the first one I had was better than my replacement. The one I have now sometimes doesn't even click when it turns on, and sometimes won't engage without serious attention to exactly where I am pressing.

If you open a Firefly you will notice that the button on the outside is just a cover/activator for the real button on the circuit board. The last picture on p.81 shows the small white button that is activated by the external button "cover".

If the button won't engage without careful attention to where you are applying pressure on the outside button, I think it's possible that the two buttons are not aligned properly.

The actual button on the circuit board is tiny, so there would be very little leeway regarding where you would apply pressure. The button on the outside, however, is considerably wider, and will allow you to apply pressure to different areas. If the center of the external button "cover" is not aligned with the center of the button on the circuit board it may cause this "unresponsiveness" in the button.

Love the "Evolution of the Firefly" image for many of the already stated reasons. Love that it shows where it came from, and inspires what is to come, like Classic Trek, next to feature film Trek, next to Next Generation Trek. I just stare at the spot to the right of the current model and dream.

Thanks again to @Mynameismud and all the FC brethren who've shared their techniques.
I want to let anyone on the fence know, don't let the brethren scare you off, the learning curve on this thing is a piece of cake, I'd say you can get the hang of it in 3 bowls.
And you will love holding it, even when not vaping, it's just too cool!

If you guys were going on a road trip would you take your firefly with you? Would you take your meds with you or get them in another state? Is the firefly one of the better road trip vapes, do ya think?

@vapin baby boomer I'd say it depends, like on WHAT other state. Say you're a black-skinned man from Illinois, would you take your stash to Mississippi? Though as a Coors drinker from Arizona, I'd say you might take it to Colorado without getting too terribly nervous.

Overall, I don't know if I'd be comfortable carrying a device with residue, which is what a "road trip vape" is, across any state lines. There are stealthier ways to go.

If I knew that electrical outlet access was going to not be a problem, I might. But there are, IMO, other vaporizers better-suited for road trips. I'd be too worried about losing mine.

Of course, I'd get them in another state if I could, but... you gotta do what you gotta do, in this often-stupid country. :ugh:

A vape for every situation is my goal!

Me personally, I don't like to carry any "extra" paraphernelia items on a road trip. I don't even like having a lighter in the car cause I dont smoke cigarettes. Laws vary state to state, so it was always too risky for me. I just make canna-oil peanut butter cinnamon cookies and take those in a cooler with other lunch types items and treats. I keep the cooler in the car with me. I then have a bag of fresh herb packed very, very well, and keep that stashed somewhere where it cant be smelled, or easily found.

Dont touch the herb till you get to your destination and eat the cookies on your way there and back. No smell in the car and easier to hide, IMO. Plus a real relaxing ride..

Great advise...

For me it depends... Id probably bring my persei over the FF just cause it smells less and oil is easier to conceal. If i didnt have any oil and was in a bind i would bring the FF. And probably buy a car charger for it depending on the trip.

 Thats about right, 3-4 sessions with mine was all it took to figure out the perfect technique for me and stopped any black/dark spots from appearing. It sure is an amazing devise.
And Oh boy the firefly 2 :mmmm:

My FF relationshio so far has been mostly good. Last week at the weekly poker game, I brought the FF to really run it through it's pace with a crowd and to see how well it holds up. All of the attendee's have used and own many different vapes (we tend to bring all our new stuff to show off) so no one was a true vaping newbie. We had about 7 to 8 people playing.

I have an extra charger and battery so they were essential to bring as well. During the course of 6 hours or so, we packed it maybe 10-12 times, getting about 10 hits or so each bowl. Each battery lasted 3-4 bowls. and the re-charge time was more than fast enough to keep the FF constantly supplied with power.

It was packed by multiple people with different varieties of herb. So some consistency to the grind or pack technique but probably not very much. It did very very well with the crowd. We really didnt have any issues with un-even ABV since most of the herb was the dense somewhat stickier variety, it vaped real evenly. It tasted really great, battery life was very good and the vape was enjoyed by all.

The issue I am running into now, is I only have some really dry somewhat fluffy purple herb. It's hard to get it to a good medium grind without it crumbling and any herb in contact with the screen at the bottom will darken up quick. It tastes great for a second but goes to toasted popcorn real fast. It's not really combusting but really really dark brown and tastes harsher.

To counter this, I did as medium a grind as I could with it, then packed the FF almost full, THEN laid a ceramic disc screen on top of the load and placed the lid on it. The ceramic screen fits perfectly over the bowl but doesnt completly fill the window cavity in diameter or thickness of the screen. There is just enough room to allow air to flow.

Then I flipped the FF upside down.

I dry hit it a few times, in the hopes of pulling any bits in contact with the screen away from it. Then tapped it upside down in my hands a few times.

Then started with a 3 second warm up and pull. Seemed to work better to keep the herb from contacting the screen, and I didnt get the almost charred bits and the taste was good.

So I repeated this for a few bowls with this herb. It seemed to work great. I was worried that the ceramic disk would retain too much heat and affect the function, but it worked fine. In fact, I think the heated ceramic disk helped this particular herb vape a bit more evenly. It worked but seems a bit much to do it everytime.

All in all, shes been good to me and is a real beauty in a crowd.

I just need to stay stocked with some tighter stickier herbs for the FF, and leave the really dry stuff to my LSV.

Get some 62% boveda humidpaks and a good container (cvault, mason jar) a week or so in that will get it in perfect condition for the FF

Thanks for the solid advice. The cookies sound delicious!

Floating on.
I would just like to update on my "dusty crumbly bud combustion" issue I've been having with the FireFly.

The herb I get is always a very dry, commercial product. Potent and seedless yes, but it has been causing dust and crumbs to penetrate the screen/edges and fall into the core. However, with the help of the Boveda 62 Humidipaks.. I've witnessed divine intervention with my super dry buds. I took about a half-ounce of my stash and sealed it in a hermetic mason jar with a Boveda 62 for 6 days.. and what has happened is simply miraculous. The buds that were previously hard as a rock have become noticeably, dramatically fluffier. The buds seem to have a greener color, and the aroma has even heightened. I'm able to break up the bud into that perfect medium-grind I was previously unable to attain and I must say.. My Firefly is much happier. The ABV is coming out much more evenly browned, the taste has improved, and the bud no longer crumbles into dust. I wont put all of my herb in with Boveda simply because my Pax loves the dry, crumbly grind.

Thanks to Boveda, I'm getting the best of both worlds with my herb and my Pax and Firefly are now living in harmony :peace:
