Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

mmenzie

My friends call me "Menz"
@mmenzie if you get off your T break and want to try some glass flowers I can mail you some..free of charge to you..I have some extras..let me know..:)
Thanks for the offer. I have tried the glass flowers and I agree they work great. I bought a pack of ten and have lost 6. Now only have 4 left. I would like more cause I used to use 6 at a time. The amazon place I got them from is gone so when ready I will need a new link to buy more. I appreciate your offer to send me some free but save those for someone who has never tried them

I really would like to try these glass spacers the guy who posted likes so much but until a seller is in the US I won't buy. None of this matters till I am employed again and off this crappy T-break

Thanks again for the offer

Here's a small world moment for you, I just checked the link to see if it was what I used, not only is it the same product but Amazon told me I bought the first 10 (?) from that vendor back in October.......

Not, of course, that there's anything special about them. I've bought several batches from other sources, as have others, they all seem to be pretty much the same. There's probably some sweat shop somewhere making tons of them for us. We should thank them I think?

That's wild that you bought the first 10...lol

They should thank us...they probably wondered why they had that uptick in sales back in late '13 :)

How about a discount code for the faithful?

If they were clever they'd get DV to include some with each unit (even to the point of giving them to them....). Along with a card to reorder more, of course.

Even those not following Nigel's lead and breaking them with practiced abandon are going to loose some over time. The old 'give away the razor, but sell the blades' trick.......

Well just my luck. Received my Ascent day before yesterday. maybe gotten 5 uses outta it, never above 350.

And it has stopped working already. After the original little tick noise then stop, it worked one more time while plugged in then now whenever I turn it on it turns off after displaying the temp gauge.

I can't believe this is still a issue for them. It was a stealth.

Worst part is my last vaporizer also stopped working 2 weeks ago and I wanted to upgrade to the Ascent so if a replacement takes a week thats 3 weeks without a vape which is all I use...

Does anyone know what the problem with these are? I would much rather take it apart and work on it myself then send it back and be without a vape for any longer.

I sent a message to the Canadian retailer I bought it from since it hadn't even been 48 hours for something they charge $270 after tax to stop working.

Also what is the newest models they make as I def wont be asking to have a stealth one returned to me. I have a feeling the factory is sending out refurbished ones as "new", the settings button as soon as i pulled it out of the box was getting stuck down

I had the same issue with one of my units and solved it cutting a piece from an old remote control keyboard and putting it in the place from outside. It works fine! And I'm pretty sure that the unit wasn't a refurbished one, the smell of the newest ones is distinct.

Edit: try to take off the settings button, its own minitool can do the job, and test if like in my case it is the cause of the malfunction.

Yikes! Sorry for your loss! When my Ascent died, I knew I needed to find a backup vape I knew would last year after year without any electrical components to fail (batteries do die, no matter how much you baby them!). My search ultimately lead to a Lotus vape - which is so stupid simple, there isn't any parts to fail! For me, the Lotus was a perfect compliment to the Ascent (one's a slow sipper, the other is a mighty milker!)

Interesting that you manged to get your Ascent to work by plugging it in. not sure what "original little tick noise" - do you mean that really quiet click click of the heating element heating up? Strange it's turning off AFTER the temp icon was displayed - when the wires connecting my heating element broke, the unit would turn on, but the temp icon would never shut off - it would stay at room temperature and never go up. Sounds like your Ascent is turning off as a precaution - some sort of protection circuit to prevent catastrophic failure (possibly battery issue? Motherboard failure? Short circuit?)

I suggest not taking apart the vape - you will void the warranty completely, and since there's still no pictures online of a dissected Ascent, you'd be stumbling blind. Plus, if you CAN'T fix your ascent, you're now out $270! You might be able to call Davinci and get an RMA opened today. If you ship fast enough, you could have an Ascent next week (It takes 2-3 days for them to process and ship out a replacement after they receive your dead unit).

It seems all new Ascent models have a 2AA1 or 2AE1 model number. And for the record, no - I was told by DV directly that they were not refurbishing units, they were replacing with new units. I really doubt they are sending out refurbs - haven't seen one shred of evidence to back up that theory.

My suggestion is to call Davinci ASAP to report your problem. Get your unit packed and ready to ship-back. Look on the bright side, you only have to ship the ascent unit and the charger back - you get to keep the glass jars, and the 2 pairs of glass stems. That's $25+ in spare parts once you receive your replacement unit.

Good luck! I feel your pain, my Ascent died on a Thursday night two weeks ago (one month after purchasing it!).

So after watching a bunch of youtube videos and reading review after review, I decided to purchase an Ascent as a replacement for my broken bong (rip). I then found this thread. I bought mine in black from www.puffitup.com , and I'm praying it doesn't break. Did I make a mistake in ordering this? I love all the features in the ascent, but I guess that doesn't matter when it breaks. How big are the chances that my Ascent will break? Is it like a rare thing, or is it fairly common to get a defective one. I hope I didn't make a $250 mistake.

I've had my Stealth since Dec. with no problems. I don't use it every day though, about 4 days a week; 4 bowl fills.

It's best not to draw conclusions based on reports of failures in this thread, because people who are not having trouble are far less likely to join FC and report that. There's no reason to think that the Ascents being sold now are are prone to failure. Early production has some issues but those have been rectified and shouldn't be for sale anywhere. You've ordered from a vendor with a fantastic reputation for doing whatever is necessary to satisfy the customer, so don't worry.

I agree with @pakalolo - Someone who's Ascent failed will be more likely to complain than the countless number of people who have been using their Ascent without any problems.

Some people on this thread even have the early production model, and still going strong! Others have had 3 or 4 fail in a row! I think quality control was (is?) an issue, but it seems to be getting better. I'm seeing less people complain about issues (the first 30+ pages of this thread, you'll see a LOT of complaints, those have dropped significantly).

It's best to err on the side of caution, ensure that the vendor is on the list of approved Davinci vendor's, and register your unit. As long as your warranty is valid, Davinci will take care of you.

Some will say don't trust the model numbers (since manufacturers are always making revisions without updating model numbers), but I will say my first model (purchased direct from DV in February) was 1AA1, and it failed after 1 month of heavy heavy use. My replacement unit (Shipped end of March) is a 2AA1 model.

The Ascent is a terrific unit, it has converted me from a combuster to a vape-addict. The flavor is outstanding. You made a great choice, just make sure you can use that warranty if you ever need to. It is an expensive electronic device with several parts that can fail.

After my Ascent failed, I realized I needed a backup vape which would be reliable. So I ultimately purchased a second vape which doesn't rely on any ol' fancy dancy electronics for heating the chamber :myday:

Of course, that might have just been an excuse to buy another vape!

Some of us who complain about their Ascent, like I do, still really, really, like it. We just get a little irked because the Ascent can be so lovely to use when it works, and has a lot of potential still. When it's working right, man, it's pretty sweet.

I don't think you made a mistake. The Ascent is perfect for a lot of people. And you got it from puffitup, so you're going to be taken care of. I say, stop worrying and start preparing.

There aren't too many faulty units lately on FC, I'm not sure what's going on elsewhere. I really enjoy using this vape, the flavor is exquisite. Its light weight and stealth a perfect unit to use on the go. I enjoy using the Eds wooden stem made for the Ascent or the gong as a mouthpiece.

I also use the glass flowers which are glass pipe screens, it keeps the herb hot and distributes the heat. When taking a draw the heat level goes down the glass flowers holds the heat in.

This vaporizer I use probably 4 or 5 times a week. I've had it since October, it's my second unit, the first had some vapor leaks and a crack in the glass bowl. When paying $239 you don't want to settle for less.

There were no problems sending my unit back to DV. It was only 2 weeks turn around time. I live in the U.S so it would be longer if you live in Canada or Europe.

It's always good to have more than one vape in case of any issues, you don't want to go back to combustion.:leaf:

It seems so....maybe. I'm not sure what you read here is a good measure of things really. Lots of subjective stuff, things you might pitch a fit over I might ignore (or the other way around). We have no QC on the reviewers for the most part.

There's also a known thing called 'infant mortality' that may be a factor. Consider people. If you live a few years you're quite likely to live a lot longer. For a host of reasons. Cars, trees, fish and most any 'population' (statistics term warning) you dig into has this absent other factors. It's the way things work. Units that don't quickly fail take a long time to wear out and die.

I agree about the flowers part, for all the reasons you mention. I also found them easy to handle. I could easily dump them out with the spent load, poke the still warm ABV a bit and pluck them out to reload more easily than the beads and other shapes I tried. Except they were out long ago, you'd swear they were made for Ascent owners.......

Spot on on having a backup for mission critical gear. Having a solid 'Plan B' in place keeps old Murphy at bay. Otherwise, the master of buzz kill will bust your game at the worst possible time. Every time. Have a plan ahead of time. My advice is make it a fun vape in it's own right, different enough so you'll enjoy it some rather than keeping it locked away. A MFLB, VG or a personal fav Vapman perhaps?

Great post. Thanks.

As other's always say - try reading the past 20-30 pages to read all about your problems and people's suggestions.

In answer to lack of vapor production - are you using the glass flowers? If not, you should try it. Also the Ascent uses conduction to heat the herb, it's not the most efficient method, nor is the heater the strongest. The start of any draw will be the hotest, the heat drops off fast. The glass flowers help trap some of the heat, but also the speed of your draw will determine the vapor production. Shoot for 20-30 seconds continuously drawing until your lungs are full. Give it 15-20 seconds to reheat after a draw.

Battery indicators are never fully accurate. How accurate were your old cellphones? When I was using my Ascent as a daily driver, I would get 6-7 sessions per charge - put on charger at night, use all day.

Great suggestions, IMO.

Thinking about the heat might help understanding and therefore technique? As Ratchett points out, probably the key here is the load is hottest just before you start to hit. Even at the suggested low pull rate, the actual temperature inside the load drops immediately and never recovers in the hit. I measured drops over 100F. This would take your load temperatures into the 'mid to high 200s'......no where near the magic temperatures. The glass walls of the bowl just won't pass heat fast enough to stay up with the cold air coming in.

IMO "15-20 seconds' is a start on reheat, but a full minute is closer to what's needed. Slow it down until you get good performance on each hit, then modify the drill.

Ignore the battery indicator until the end, it has noting to do with heat production until the unit locks out. As the battery discharges, it simply pulls more power to compensate automatically.

Keep it dry, medium to fine ground, try the flowers, pack it some but not solidly, give plenty of time between hits for full recovery, draw slow and steady......the worm will turn.

Good luck.

I just got my replacement, had forgotten how much I loved this thing, need a water adapter now as I have a pinnacle WT with nothing to use it on.

Not much difference in comparison of 1AA1 and 2AA1 the later having a more noticeable ceramic uhh extension? near the grill, if this heats up from the oven it should heat more air before it goes through the oven which probably makes it more efficient and it seems to have tighter seals.
Full blown head high,post reply.
